Abstract
In a shuttleless loom a device is provided for binding weft ends by a leno shed working on at least one ''''straight'''' thread and at least one cross thread per ''''straight'''' thread. The crossing of the threads is effected by three levers all actuated by an independent, single, triple action cam, coordinated to operate the binding as a function of the time of arrival of the end of the weft with respect to the crossing of the warp yarns. Two levers are hinged to a fixed common axis and the third lever is hinged to one of said two levers. The first lever controls one or more ''''straight'''' threads, the second lever controls the dip of one or more cross threads and the third produces a reverse motion between the cross threads.

PAIENTEUFEB 919m sum 3 0r 3 DEVICE FOR BINDING WEFTS ON A SI-IUTTLELESS LOOM The present invention relates to a device for binding wefts on a shuttleless loom and more particularly to binding by a leno shed working on at least one straight" thread and at least one cross thread per straight" thread.
Shuttleless looms, with flying or false shuttles cannot provide a true selvedge on each side of the fabric, inasmuch as the weft is necessarily out, either on each shot, or every two shots, which provides respectively a false selvedge on both sides or a false selvedge on a single side.
On the false selvedge side, the binding has, leno weave at two different points, namely: level with the least warp yarn, and about 1 centimeter beyond, so as to hold taut the end of the weft to avoid its reentry into the shed and to enable the cutting of the ends which extend from the fabric.
This method of binding can be obtained with equipment mounted on the heald slide bars inside the frames, the binding threads being provided from reels placed at the rear of the loom.
There exist also devices mounted on the structure of the loom and actuated by the sley or by the mechanism. These various types of equipment all depend on further movement, and, therefore, do not enable perfect service to be assured.
There exists also a process of gauze weave binding effected by a rotating disc provided with two diametrically opposite reels of thread, the rotation of the disc causing a crossing of the threads. This device can only however be equipped with reels of low capacity.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a device which overcomes the aforesaid drawbacks.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide a device which enables a gauze binding to be obtained by controlling, either a straight thread and two cross threads, or a straight" thread and one cross thread.
It is another object to provide an apparatus of reduced bulk and of which the movements are perfectly synchronized with other movements of the loom.
Another object is to provide a device in which the feed bobbins are fixed, are of large content and which enable an independent weaving of an entire warp.
According to the invention there is provided a binding device by leno shed working on at least one straight thread and at least one cross thread per straight" thread, whereby the crossing of the threads is ensured by levers which are all actuated by a single independent cam producing the binding as a function of the moment of arrival of the end of the weft with respect to the crossing of the warp yarns.
In a preferred embodiment, the binding device is composed of a triple action cam actuating three levers, two of these levers being hinged to a common fixed axis and the third lever being hinged to one of the aforesaid levers, the first of these levers controlling the one or more "straight" threads, the second controlling the dip of the one or more cross threads and the third acting, through an oscillating rocker effects the lateral displacement in reverse direction of the said cross threads.
The invention will in any case be readily understood, by referring to the accompanying drawings illustrating one embodiment thereof. In said drawing:

FIG. 2 illustrates the assembly of FIG. I in plan view from above;
FIGS. 3, 4 and 5 illustrate on a larger scale the various positions of the needles carrying the threads;
FIG. 6 illustrates the case of binding at two points by a straight" thread and two cross threads; and
FIG. 7 illustrates the case of binding by a straight thread and a cross thread at one point, and by a straight thread and The levers 3 and 4 are hinged to a fixed horizontal common axis 9.
The lever 3 actuated by one of the peripheral profiles of the cam 2, supports a needle I0, or twin needles I0 in the case in the drawing and which receives, through four holes, two straight" threads 11 and 12 of two bindings.
By means of lever 3 and the cam 2, needle 10 is actuated vertically enabling the threads to be disengaged in the low position on the passage of the lance or needle, bearing the weft (FIGS. 3 and 5) and to be placed in crossing position (FIG. 4).
The lever 4 is hinged to the fixed axis 9, and is actuated by a second peripheral profile of the cam 2. The lever 4 supports the lever 5 which is hinged to a vertical axis 14 fixed to the said lever 4.
The lever 5, actuated by the lateral ramp of the cam 2, transmits a translating movement to the needles l5 and I6. The needle 15 hinged at I9 on the lever 5, is actuated directly by lever 5 to effect a horizontal reciprocatory to and fro movement. The needle 16 is actuated to reciprocate horizontally by lever 5, but in an opposite direction to the movement of the needle 15, by means of a small reversing lever 17 hinged to an axis I fixed to the. lever 4. In addition, the aforesaid needles l5 and 16 are guided by a plate bearing two grooves 20 mounted on the lever 4, which needles l5 and I6 are provided with two holes for carrying threads 21, 22 and 23, 24 respectively.
As the needles reciprocate, threads 23 and 24 concatenate with the straight thread II, 12 the end of the weft yarn (FIGS. 6 and 7) and the threads 21 and 22, concatenate with the straight' thread 12 the weft against the last warp thread (FIG. 6).
In FIG. 7 a single cross thread 21 or 22 is used.
The device according to the present invention is positioned proximate the edge of the fabricon the side where the false selvage is formed. In the case of a loom forming a false selvagc at both edges of the fabric, there is one device at each edge. The shaft 9, on which the levers 3 and 4 are pivoted, is mounted on a support secured on the conventional breast bar (not shown).
As indicated above, and due to the independent control by cam of the different levers for crossing the threads, it is readily appreciated that the binding is accomplished as a function of the moment of arrival of the end of the weft with respect to the crossing of the warp.
It is to be noted, furthermore, that the binding threads hold the weft thread up to the movement of stacking of the shot by the sley and of the end of the crossing of the warp yarns. The number of binding points is obviously not limited to two.
It will be apparent that various changes and modifications may be made in the embodiment described without departing from the spirit of the invention as defined in scope by the appended claims.
I claim:
1. In a shuttleless weaving loom, apparatus for binding weft ends, said apparatus comprising a first lever, a second lever and a third lever, means pivotally supporting said first lever and said second lever for oscillation in a common plane, means pivotally supporting said third lever on said second lever, camming means, means for driving said camming means, means for biasing said first lever, said second lever, and said third lever against said camming means, a first needle supported by said first lever, a guide means supported by said second lever, a second needle and a third needle supported by said third lever, said second needle and said third needle being guided for reciprocation in said guide means for cooperation with said first needle, and reversing means for acting on said third needle for imparting to said third needle reciprocating oppositely directed to the reciprocation. of said second needle.
2. Apparatus as claimed in claim I, wherein said first lever and said second lever are pivotally supported about a common axis.
3. Apparatus as claimed in claim 2, wherein said second lever and said third lever are pivotally supported for oscillation in respective planes transversely of one another.
7. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1, including a further needle supported by said first lever extending parallel with said first needle and spaced therefrom.
8. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1, wherein said reversing means includes a fourth lever including opposite end portionsand pivotally supported on said secondlever between said opposite end portions, one of said opposite end portions being pivotally supported on said third lever, the other of said opposite end portions pivotally supporting said third needle.
Claims (8)
1. In a shuttleless weaving loom, apparatus for binding weft ends, said apparatus comprising a first lever, a second lever and a third lever, means pivotally supporting said first lever and said second lever for oscillation in a common plane, means pivotally supporting said third lever on said second lever, camming means, means for driving said camming means, means for biasing said first lever, said second lever, and said third lever against said camming means, a first needle supported by said first lever, a guide means supported by said second lever, a second needle and a third needle supported by said third lever, said second needle and said third needle being guided for reciprocation in said guide means for cooperation with said first needle, and reversing means for acting on said third needle for imparting to said third needle reciprocating oppositely directed to the reciprocation of said second needle.
2. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1, wherein said first lever and said second lever are pivotally supported about a common axis.
3. Apparatus as claimed in claim 2, wherein said second lever and said third lever are pivotally supported for oscillation in respective planes transversely of one another.
4. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1, wherein said first needle, said second needle and said third needle are each provided with respective openings for carrying respective threads.
5. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1, wherein said guide means is provided with two parallel grooves for receiving respectively said second needle and said third needle.
6. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1, wherein said camming means includes two independent peripheral profiles being tracked by said first lever and said second lever respectively, and a face profile being tracked by said third lever.
7. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1, including a further needle supported by said first lever extending parallel with said first needle and spaced therefrom.
8. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1, wherein said reversing means includes a fourth lever including opposite end portions and pivotally supported on said second lever between said opposite end portions, one of said opposite end portions being pivotally supported on said third lever, the other of said opposite end portions pivotally supporting said third needle.
