An elastomeric strap secures the ties in rolled configuration and an accessory hanger is optionally used. When desired, the ties can be unrolled in a manner hereinafter described so as to hang properly when suspended from the hook in a hotel room, for example.

NU LL W W H's ATTORNEY The present invention relates to tie hangers and, more particularly, to a new and'improv'ed tie hanger and storage device wherein the same permits ties to be rolled thereon so that the ties will not become creased or wrinkled when the device is contained in a traveling bag. When the user reaches his destination, he merely removes the device from his traveling bag or trunk and suspends the same from the closet pole, hook or other device. At this point the ties can be unrolled so as to hang naturally. in assuming their new, unrolled condition, the ties will not have been creased clue to the prior storage.

Accordingly, the principal object of the present invention is to provide a new and improved tie hanger.

A further object is to provide a tie hanger and storage device wherein ties may be easily wrapped on the resilient storagemembers of the device, this such device can easily be stored in a suitcase, traveling bag or trunk; yet, where the device is withdrawn, the ties may be unrolled and hung in their usual position without creases or folds having been produced in the ties during their storage in traveling bags.

An additional object is to provide an assessory hanger for tie racks.

An additional object is to provide in a tie hanger, cylindrical storage members and an elastomeric strap in combination therewith, the two being operative to retain ties in their rolled condition when desired and, optionally, to permit the ties to hang properly in a straight manner once the device is withdrawn from storage and hooked to a conventional closet pole or hook.

The features of the present invention which are believed to be novel are set forth with particularity in the appended claims.

The present invention, both as to its organization and manner of operation, together with further object and ad vantages thereof, may'bestbe understood by reference to the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings in which:

FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a tie rack and storage device incorporating principles of the present invention.

FIG. 4 is a section taken along the lines 4-4 in FIG. 1.

FIG. 5 is a perspective view of the elastomeric strap employed in the invention and is shown in its developed form when the same is stretched across the upper and also end surfaces of the resilient storage members of the device.

In FIG. 1 the device of the present invention is shown to include a hook member having hook portion 11 and offset mounting portion I2integral therewith. Offset mounting portion 12 includes a lower extremity 14 receiving transverse rod 13. Opposite lengths of transverse rod 13 are disposed on either side of mounting portion 12. There are numerous ways, of course, in order for the hook 10 to be formed with or provided for transverse rod 13.

As seen relative to FIGS. 1 and 2 the transverse rod 13 has mounted on opposite sides thereof a respective, preferably resilient and sponge-like, storage members 17A and 17B, mounted via their central apertures S. Generally, one or more resilient storage members will be contained on either side of transverse rod 13. The resilient storage members 17A and 178 preferably comprise sponge rubber or sponge plastic rolls resembling the largerolls sometimes found in ladies haircurler designs, for example. The reason for preferably making the storage members of sponge-like material such as sponge rubber or a spongy plastic is for purposes of friction retention qualities relative to mounted ties and, importantly, to enable the subject member matcrialto give slightly in response to the pressure applied thereon by external objects.

Disposed over the top of the construction is an elastomeric retainer strap 19. Strap 19 which is trough-like when installed is elongate, stretchable, and includesa central mounting aperture 2 Strap 19 also includes a pair of end rings 21 an 22 which are constructed to slip over the respective ends 15 and 16 of transverse rod 13. When in stretched position as seen in FIGS. 1,3 and 5, the stretchable elastomeric strap 19 assumes the configuration shown and provides a means for insuring that any ties rolled upon the resilient storage members 17A and 178 will be retained thereon. Thus, when the device is packed in a suitcase the ties in rolled form will not tend to crease or wrinkle.

Optionally included is a wire which is now referred to as an assessory hanger member 25, having opposite end lengths or legs 27 and 28 and opposite ring mounts 29 and 30. Member 25 is ideally suitable for retaining objects of jewelry, keys, and other assessories which the user may wish to attach to the overall device. The wire 25 is preferably resilient such that its end leg may be urged outwardly to disengage a respective end (15, 16) of transverse rod 13. When member 25 is so disengaged and one or more of the opposite halves of resilient elastomeric strip 19 disengaged from its respective end relative to transverse rod 13, then one or more ties may be suitably wrapped around the exposed resilient storage members 17A, 178. Both sides ofthe device may be used if desired. Accordingly, once the rolled wrapping of the tics is completed, then the elastomeric strap is caused to rc-engagc at its rings 21 and 22 the outermost extremities 15, 16 or transverse rod 13. Accordingly, the ties are easily taken into position in their rolled configuration. The member 25 is mounted as indicated in the device stored in a suitcase, trunk or traveling bag.

When the user reaches his destination and unpacks his travel bag or other container, then the device is easily withdrawn, hung from a closet pole or hook, and the elastomeric strap is released at one or both sides thereof so that the ties may be unrolled and allowed to hang naturally in place in an inverted U-shaped configurement. It will be observed that since in a preferred form of the invention the resilient storage members are rolls or cylindrical members, the ties may be hung straight; furthermore, by virtue of the unique storage of the ties in the invention, the ties in their rolled form will not be wrinkled or creased.

Finally, the assessory hanger member 25 is reinstalled if such has previously been released, and the same is usable for car keys, jewelry, and other items which are to be hung therefrom.

While particular embodiments of the present invention have been shown and described, it will be obvious to those skilled in the art that changes and modifications may be made without departing from this invention in its broader aspects, and within the true spirit and scope of the invention.

1. A tie hanger and storage device including, in combination, a transverse rod, means fixedly disposed with respect to said transverse rod for suspending said transverse rod from an external member, and storage means mounted upon said transverse rod and constructed to mount a tie thereupon in rolled form, and wherein said suspending means comprises a hook affixed centrally to said transverse rod, said storage means comprising sponge rolls disposed on said transverse rod on opposite sides of said hook, and trough like elastomeric strap means mounted over said hook and retentively engaging opposite ends of said transverse rod.

2. Structure according to claim 1 wherein said elastomeric strap means includes end rings engaging said transverse rod.
