Oct. 20, 1970 Jpc. ELswlcK BILLIARD CUE WITH GUIDE MEMBER Filed Feb. l0, 1969 N VENT 0R. Je rr] C. Els wiel( 4 A Wfffffvfffflfl /V/////v/ /UL N Q United States Patent O 3,534,959 BILLIARD CUE WITH GUIDE MEMBER Jerry C. Elswick, 645 Neil Ave., Apt. 912, Columbus, Ohio 43215 Filed Feb. 10, 1969, Ser. No. 797,904 Int. Cl. A6311 15/08, 15/10 U.S. Cl. 273-68 3 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to cue sticks, and more particularly to a combination cue stick and guide member.
It is therefore the main purpose of this invention to provide a billard cue which will have a hollow conical sleeve member which is hand-held and serves as a guide when aiming the stick at a ball.
Another object of this invention is to provide a billiard cue by which the guide member includes a fixed and flanged sleeve serving as a guide for a slideable shaft attached to the stick portion serving as a handle and attached to the forward stick portion having a cue tip.
A further object of this invention is to provide a billiard cue which is of such construction so as to allow the user to hold the guide member stationary while aiming at the ball and provides better support, better control of the follow-through and a more uniform stroke than may be obtained by guiding a cue stick through the lingers of the hand, which is well known in the art.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a billiard cue which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and eflicient in operation.
These and other objects will become readily evident upon a study of the following specification together with the accompanying drawing wherein:
FIG. 1 is a fragmentary horizontal view of the present invention shown in elevation and partly broken away; and
FIG. 2 is an enlarged view of the inner sleeve component shown removed from FIG. l, and shown in sections.
According to this invention, a billiard cue is provided with a hollow conical sleeve 11, the exterior of which is held in the hand of the user in order to properly guide the ball (not shown). On' the interior of the hollow sleeve 11 is strategically secured an elongated sleeve 12 having end llanges 13 and 14, the flanges 13 and 14 being secured to the interior of sleeve 11. An elongated shaft 15 is smoothly slideable within the bore 16 of sleeve 12. Flange 17 is secured to the end of the stick portion 18.
Patented Oct. 20, 1970 ICC The opposite flange 19 of shaft 15 is secured to the forward stick portion 20 having the cue tip 21.
In use, sleeve 11 is held between the lingers of one hand while the other hand of the user grasps the stick portion 18. The user pulls backwards upon the stick portion 18 which will leave the hollow conical sleeve 11 stationary between his lingers which serves as a support and guide means for cue 10. He then urges the stick portion 18 forward which simultaneously urges stick portion 20 forward, whereupon the-cue tip 21 strikes the ball.
It shall be noted that the flange 19 serves as a stop means against the flange 13 of sleeve 12 on the interior of sleeve 11 thus preventing complete withdrawal of stick portion 20 from sleeve 12 and the flange 14 of sleeve 12 also serves as a stop for the forward position of stick portion 18.
What I now claim is:
1. A billard cue and combination guide member comprising a hollow conical sleeve providing support and guide means for the stick portion of said cue, a flanged sleeve carried within said conical sleeve and receiving slideable shaft means attached to the forward portions of said cue.
2. A combination according to claim 1, wherein said flanged sleeve is secured lixedly by the flange portion of said sleeve to the inner periphery of said hollow conical sleeve and provides alignment for said shaft means received in the bore of said flanged sleeve.
3. A combination according to claim 2, wherein said shaft means is freely and slideably carried within said flanged sleeve and includes a flanged end secured to the forward end of the handle portion of said cue and a flanged opposite end secured to the forward stick portion which is carried partially within said conical sleeve of said cue; and the forward llange of said shaft means serves as stop means for the forward end of said flanged sleeve and said conical sleeve is held in the hands of the user and remains stationary as does the llange sleeve contained on the interior of said conical sleeve and thus provides smooth and accurate aim of a ball and allows better control of the follow-through.
