Description

(No Model.)
S. G. PILLSBURY.
HAMMER.
Patented Nov. 16, 1886.
uru 44090 e0 UNiTnD STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL GARVIN PILLSBURY, OF LONG ISLAND, KANSAS.
HAMMER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 352,570, dated November 16, 1886.
Application filed May 19, 1886. Serial No. 202,668. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
' Be it known that I, SAMUEL GARVIN PILLs- BURY, a citizen of the United States, residing will be hereinafter fully described, and par-.
ticularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings hereto annexed, Figure l is a perspective view of my improved hammer. Fig. 2 is a section taken on the line 0000 in Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 3 y in Fig. 1.
The same letters refer to the same parts in all the figures.
A in the drawings designates the hammerhead, which is provided with curved clawsB B, the inner and outer sides of which are beveled, as shown at G and D, so as to form the sharp edges E. The inner beveled sides,O, of the claws B B are toothed or corrugated, as at F F, said teeth or corrugations extending from the upper to the lower edges of the said jaws. The sides of the teeth F facing the ends or 'points of the claws are formed with abrupt shoulders G, while their innersides are beveled, as at G.
The operation and advantages of thisinven- 3 5 tion will be readily understood from the foregoing description, taken in connection withthe drawings hereto annexed. The sharp edges may be readily inserted under the edges of a nail at the sides of the same, and the eorrugao tions F will prevent the claws from slipping, as they. are otherwise liable to do.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim- 1. A'hammer-head having curved claws B 5 B, the inner and outer sides of which are beveled', as at G D, forming sharp edges E, said inner sides, 0, being provided with teeth or corrugations extending from the upper to the lower edges of the said jaws, substantially as 50 set forth. i 7
I 2. A hammer-head having curved claws B B, beveled so as to form sharp edges E, the inner beveled sides of said jaws being provided with teeth, the sides of which, facing 55 the points of the jaws, are provided with abrupt shoulders G, while their innersides are beveled at G, substantially as and for the purpose set iorth.
In testimony thatI'elaim the foregoing as my 60 own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SAMUEL GARVTN PILLsBURY.
