UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BENJAMIN HAMMET TEAGUE, OF AIKEN, SOUTH CAROLINA.
ARM-REST FOR DENT'ISTS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 351,079, dated OctoberlQ, 1886.
Application filed June 25, 1886. Serial No. 206,215. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN HAMMET TEAGUE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Aiken, in the county of Aiken and State of South Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Arm-Bests for Dentists; and 1 do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descrip tion of the invention, sueh as will enable others skilled in theart to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to that class of rests which are used for the arm, and the object thereof is to provide means for supporting the arm ofa dentist near the head of his patient while at work, for the purpose of affording protection from the pressure and weight of the arm, and supporting the latter in an uplifted position.
In the accompanying drawings, in which corresponding parts are designated by similar letters, Figure 1 represents the arm-rest in its suspended position, and Fig. '2 shows the supporting-bar detached from the arm-holder.
The arm-holder Ais constructed of metal, and made ot'the properwidth and curvilinear contour to adapt itself readily to the position of the arm of the operator. In order that the arm may be allowed entire freedom of movement, and at the same time firmly supported in any desired position, the holder A is attached, by means of the rigid buckle a, to the flexible strap 0, which is provided with a se-' ries of holes for the purpose of accurately adjusting the height of the holder or its distance from the head of the patient. This flexible strap is let into or properly secured to the lower end of the vertical pendent bar B, the upper end of which is provided with an eyelet or ring, b, which travels upon the wire or rod D. The pendent bar may be secured to the horizontal supporting-rod in any desired position by means of any of the usual appliances for securing a ring upon a rod, which, being well known, need not be described.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The combination of an arm-holder provided with a buckle, with a flexible strap having a suitable number of holes, whereby the holder or rest is suspended at a proper height and also rendered capable of adjusting itselfto the position of the arm ofthe operator, as herein described.
2. The combination of the arm holder or rest A. provided with a buckle, a, the flexible strap 0, provided with a suitable number of holes, the traveling pendent bar B, having at its upper end a ring or eyelet, and the suspended rod or wire 1), as and for the purpose described.
In testimonv whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
BENJAMIN HAMMET TEAGUE.
