Cl. 223-73 8 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE My invention has for its object improvements in clothesironing machines comprising a body made of porous fabric or perforated material over which is fitted the garment to be ironed and which is suspended to means feeding simultaneously hot air and steam into said body, said means being connected with the body through a rotary and sliding connection.
The bodies used hitherto were mere dummies secured through their neck to the water and steam injecting means which provided for the ironing of blouses, dresses, coats and jackets. However it was not possible to iron in that manner trousers the cut of which is more intricate and which require a well-defined creasing.
My invention removes this drawback by providing a body constituted by a parallelepipedon provided in the vicinity of a shorter side with a hollow perforated channel, the cross-section of which forms an isosceles triangle the base of which is parallel with the shorter side of the parallelepiped while its apex engages the front of the fork of the trousers while the crease of each trouser leg is held and marked by flaps hinged to the outer ridges of the channelsA similar channel is provided for the rear side of the trousers in association with similar flaps. The upper part of said second channel is recessed in conformity with the shape of the trousers and the two channels are interconnected by a yielding reinforced sheath and by a first adjusting and spacing rod; a second rod is provided at the upper end of the second channel engaging a slotted plate rigid with the parallelepipedon.
Further optional features of the invention are as follows:
Two small clips provided on the first channel are adapted to engage the top of the creases to the front of the trousers while a hook engaging the waist on the side facing away from the creases is urged outwardly by a spring.
The parallelepipedon is provided with a second exit for the air and steam directed into the inside of the upper section of the trousers, the main outlet being through the front channel.
The flaps are advantageously coated with silicone rubher or wire brush.
I will now disclose a preferred embodiment of my invention, reference being made to the accompanying drawings wherein:
FIG. 1 is a diagrammatic perspective view of the apparatus.
FIG. 2 is a cross-section through line IIII of FIG. 1.
As illustrated the hollow flat parallelepipedon 26 is connected with the air and steam injecting means through the agency of a slideway 12 carrying a rotary connection 13. It is provided furthermore in the vicinity of its transverse lefthand end with a channel 28 made of a perforated metal sheet and opening into the parallelepipedon. The cross-section of said channel is in the shape of an isosceles triangle the apex of which faces the sleeve 27 through which air and steam are blown into the trousers 38 illustrated in dot-and-dash lines. Said channel 28 is provided with two flaps 34 hinged thereto at 35 and urged elastical 1y against the broad sides of the channel 28. The flaps are lined with silicone rubber or wire-brush. A second channel 31 is recessed on its upper section in conformity with the shape of the seat section of the trousers 38, the two channels being interconnected at their lower ends by a yielding reinforced sheath 32. The second channel 31 is also provided with two lateral flaps 34 pivotally secured through hinges 35. The spacing between said channels 28 and 31 is adjusted across their lower ends by the spacing rod 33 the location of which is adjusted through the agency of the spring 39, while the upper end of the channel 31 is adjusted as to position with reference to the channel 28 by the rod 29 carried by said channel 31 and engaging a selected notch in the slot provided in the lug 39 rigid with the parallelepipedon, the notch being selected in accordance with the shape and size of the trousers to be ironed.
The trousers 38 are positioned by first securing the upper ends of the creases at the front of the trousers through the clips 40 after which the hook 36 is caused to engage the rear side of the trousers waist and then urged outwardly by the spring 37. This being done, the flaps 34 are folded back so as to hold the trousers between the latter and the corresponding channels 28 and 31. The ironing is then performed by introducing during a very short time hot air and steam into the channels 28 and 31 and also inside the trousers through the sleeve 27. The air and steam enter thus the inside of the trousers through the perforations in the channel walls and the fabric assumes the shape assigned to it by the ironing apparatus.
Of course the hollow flat parallelepipedon is disclosed merely by way of example since any other suitable support may be used.
What I claim is:
1. An apparatus for ironing trousers comprising a hollow support, means feding air and steam into said support, a U-shaped channel system including two substantially upright channels interconnected at their lower ends, provided with perforated walls and adapted to engage the front and rear of trousers forks, their crosssections being in the shape of isosceles triangles the bases of which extend transversely of the trousers location and the apices of which face each other, means connecting the inside of the hollow support with the front channel and flaps pivotally secured to the outer lateral walls of the channels and adapted to hold the trousers creases between them and said outer Walls.
2. An apparatus as claimed in claim 1 wherein the channel adapted to engage the rear creases in the trousers is recessed in its upper front portion to match the shape of the trousers seat.
3. An apparatus as claimed in claim 1 wherein the connection between the two channels is constituted by a reinforced yielding sheath connecting the lower ends of the channels, the apparatus including furthermore means adju'stably spacing said lower ends of the channels.
4. An apparatus as claimed in claim 1 wherein the connection between the two channels is constituted by a reinforced yielding sheath connecting the lower ends of the channel, the apparatus including furthermore means adjustably spacing said lower ends of the channels, a rod rigid with the upper end of the rear channel and an extension of the support provided with a slot showing a series of notches adapted to be engaged selectively by the free end of last-mentioned rod to adjust the location of said rear channel.
'5. An apparatus as claimed in claim 1 including clips carried by the support and adapted to engage the inside of the trousers belt, a hook carried by the support and adapted to engage the inside of the rear section of the trousers belt and elastic means urging said hook outwardly.
6. An apparatus as claimed in claim 1 including a connection betwen the inside of the support and the location of the inside of the trousers.
7. An apparatus as claimed in claim 1 including a coat of silicone rubber on at least one of the cooperating flaps and channel surfaces.
8. An apparatus as claimed in claim 1 including a coat of wire brush on at least one of the cooperating flap and channel surfaces.
