GATE-LATCH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 349,469, dated September 21. 1886. Application filed August 18, 1886. Serial No. 211,188. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CROMWELL P.WEAVER, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Gate-Latches; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, refer:
7 2c My'invention accordingly consists of a pivoted latch of right-angle form, having aguide or stop for one arm thereof, which arm is pro vided with a handle or stud and a pivoted dog for engaging with the other arm, the latter arm having a pin or stud thereon to lock the latch in its fastening position.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, which is a perspective of a part of a door or gate and post, and of a latch embodying my 0 improvements, A represents the door or gate; B, the post or jamb, having keeper 1); and G the latch, which consists of a rightangle or bell-crank lever having arms 0 c, and is snitably pivoted at c to a plate or bar, 0 suitably secured to the door or gate A. The arm c has a handle or stud, c, by means of which the latch is preferably manipulated, and the arm 0 has a stud or pin, chwhich forms a stop-pin for a pivoted dog, D, the end at of which is adapted to slide over in front of the 0 latch-arm c, and abut against pin 0 to hold or look the latch in position for fastening the gate or door, as shown in the drawing. To unfasten the latch, the dog D is first thrown over in the direction indicated by arrow 00. 5 To limit the movement of the latch or its arm 0, asuitable guide, E, is provided, which is fastened to the door or gate A in any desired manner.
What I claim is- 1 o 1. The right-angle latch 0, having on its arm 0' astud or pin 0 in combination with a pivoted dog, D, adapted to engage arm 0 and stud 0 substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The right-angle latch 0, having on its arm 0 a stud or pin, 0 in combination with pivoted dog D and guide E, substantially as set forth. In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
