United States Patent ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A U-shaped clamp to receive a pair of work gloves; belt loops secured to one side of the clamp; a leaf spring secured to the same side of the clamp; a second leaf spring secured to the other side of the clamp, said leaf springs meeting within the clamp to engage said gloves and manual means to separate said springs.

This invention relates to a device securable to a workmans belt and having means to receive, retain and at will release such objects as a pair of work gloves. Though designed primarily for workmans gloves, this device also is usable as a household item whereby the housewife can carry conveniently such items as dust cloths, polishing webs, or even work or rubber gloves of her own.

It is an object of this invention to provide a device as aforesaid, made up of a minimum of parts, easy to manufacture and assemble, and positive in operation- I It is a further object of this invention to provide a device as aforesaid, which requires a minimum of eflo'rt on the part of the user to insert the gloves in holding position, and to retain the gloves in such position firmly against displacement and further to provide manual means which will permitdislodgement of the gloves only at the deliberate will ofthe user.

The above and other objects will be made clear'from the following detailed description taken in connection with the annexed drawings, in which:

FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of the device in position on a belt and holding a pair of gloves;

FIGURE 2 is a rear elevation of the device shown in FIGURE 1;

FIGURE 3 is a section taken on the line 3-3 of FIG- URE 2; and

FIGURE 4 is a section on the line 4-4 of FIGURE 3.

The men who have need of the device of this invention frequently work in elevated positions, for example: telephone or power poles or scaffolding. Frequently, the job requires manual manipulation of some delicacy and for such manipulation the customary work gloves or insulation gloves are so thick and cumbersome as seriously to interfere with such manipulation. In such cases, the workman will desire to remove the gloves until the manipulation is complete, then put them on again. Now, particularly for elevated work, it is essential that while the gloves are not on the hands of the user, they be very safely stowed, since, if they were dropped, a special and unnecessary trip from the top of the pole or the scaffolding to the ground and back to the top again would be required. The present invention provides a convenient means for holding the gloves against dislodgment while 3,488,812 Patented Jan. 13, 1970 "ice the gloves are not in use and permitting easy removal from the holding means without a wrestling match to free the gloves.

Referring now to the drawings, the device comprises essentially a U-shaped clip 10 having a rear leg 12 and a front leg 14, with the rear leg 12 of greater length than the front leg 14. The legs 12 and 14 are appropriately spaced to receive a pair of work gloves 16 between them.

A pair of loops 18 are riveted at 20 to the rear leg 12 and receive a conventional belt 22.

Between the belt loops 18, the rear leg 12 is provided with an aperture 24 through which passes the bent end 26 of a leaf spring 28 having its opposite end riveted to the back of the rear leg 12 at 30.

The front leg 14 has an aperture 32 confronting the aperture 24 in the rear leg 12. A leaf spring 34 is riveted at 36 to the front of the front leg 14 and has a bent end 38 passing through the aperture 32 and engaging the bent end 36 of the leaf spring 28, a relationship best shown in FIGURE 3.

The rear leg 12 has its free end bent rearwardly at 40 while the front leg 14 has its free end bent forwardly at 42. This facilitates the entry of a pair of gloves between the legs 12 and 14, where they are gripped between the bent end 26 of the spring 28 and the bent end 38 of the spring 34. The grip is exceedingly firm and the withdrawal of the gloves is strongly resisted.

A C-shaped bracket 44 is secured to the front leaf spring 34 by a rivet 46 just below the bent portion 38 of the spring 34 and by bent arms 48 adjacent the lower rivet 36. The bracket 44 has an outwardly extending upper flange 50 and a similar outwardly extending lower flange 52. A pin 54 penetrates the flanges and has a holding bead 56 at its lower end a (preferably) plastic head 58 at its upper end. The pin is surrounded by plastic rings 60 which secure the pinagainst rattling and which may carry any desired indicia.

When it is desired to release the gloves from the grip of the bent portions 26 and 38, it is only necessary to press on handle 58 of the pin 54 and swing it to the dotted line position of FIGURE 2, which withdraws the bent portion 38 through the aperture 32 in the leg 14, thereby permitting free and easy removal of the gloves.

While certain specific details and embodiments have been discussed and shown in the foregoing disclosure, clearly these are susceptible of modification by one skilled in the art.

What is claimed is:

1. A device for releasably receiving and holding a pair of gloves or the like comprising: a U-shaped member having spaced front and rear legs; independent springs penetrating said legs and meeting therebetween; and means to disengage said springs.

2. A device as set forth in claim 1, in which said springs are leaf springs having one end of each respectively secured to said front and rear legs.

3. A device as set forth in claim 1, including belt receiving loops secured to said rear leg.

4. A device for releasably receiving and holding a pair of gloves or the like comprising: a U-shaped member having spaced front and rear legs; independent springs penetrating said legs and meeting therebetween; and means to 3 disengage said springs, said spring disengaging means comprising a pin mounted in a bracket secured to one of said springs, said pin having at its upper end a manually engageable knob.

5. A device as set forth in claim 4, in which said springs are leaf springs having one end of each respectively secured to said front and rear legs.

6. A device as set forth in claim 4, including belt receiving loops secured to said rear leg.

7. A device as set forth in claim 6, in which said springs are leaf springs having one end of each respectively secured to said front and rear legs.
