, Patented Feb. 25, 1862 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
l/VILSON T. POGUE, OF VIENNA, INDIANA, ASSIGNOR TO GEORGES HELY.
IMPROVED MODE OF HOLDING WAGON-WHEELS WHILE MACHINERY IS BEING RUN ON THE WAGON- Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 34,551, dated February 25, 1862.
1'0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILSON T. POGUE, of Vienna, in the county of Rush and State of Indiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in the Mode of Holding Wagon- Wheels Permanent while Machinery is being Run on Them; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in securing the wheels permanently by means of a swivel, four or more clevises, and iron rods.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
I procure two clevises for each wheel of the wagon and two rods of iron, each having an eye turned in each end. I next procure four shorter rods, two of which have an eye turned on one end and a screw cut on the other. I
then form heads on one end of the other two 7 rods and pass them through one end of the swivel and turn an eye on the other end, the swivel having a screw out in the other end.
The figure represents my invention. AA-are the wheels on one side of the wagon. B represents one of the rods; 0, the swivel; D D D D, four of the clevises, as on the two wheels on one side of the wagon; E, one of the rods with screw out on it penetrating the screw out in the swivel; F, a short rod with a head on it to secure it to the otherend of the swivel.
Operation: It will be seen that by securing the rod B one end near the bottom of the is drawn toward the bottom of the front wheel,
thereby holding the wheels permanent, much more so than any plan heretofore devised for the purpose.
I am aware there have been various plans for holding the wheels of wagons to prevent them moving while machinery is being run thereon, none of which I claim. I do not claim the swivel-rods nor clevises; but
What I do claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The arrangement of the rods B E F, swivel O, and clevises D D D D, in combination with the wheels A A, the better to effect the purpose above described, the whole being constructed substantially as above described.
