DIAL FOR TIME-PIECES.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 344,423, dated June 29, 1886.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, RUDOLPH TRAGARDH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ohicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois,have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dials for Clocks and YVatches, of which the following is a specification, to Wit:

This invention relates to an improvement in dial-plates for clocks and watches; and it consists in certain peculiarities of construction and arrangement,substantially as will be here inafter more fully described, and pointed out in the claim.

In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to avail themselves of its benefits, I will now proceed to describe its construction and use, referring to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 shows a dial arranged as herein described, and Fig. 2 is a modification of the same.

A represents a dial-plate for watches or clocks,provided with the figures from 1 to 24, representing the hours of the day and night. These figures are arranged in two concentric circles, one within the other, as shown in Fig. 1, one of these circles consisting of light figures upon a dark background, and the other showing dark figures upon alight background. By this arrangement all the figures representing hours of the night are made light and contrasted with a dark ground-work, and all the hours of the day are just the reverse, thus showing at all times to the best advantage.

In a dial for clocks and watches,two concentric circles arranged one within the other and of different colors, one of said circles showing figures thereon numbering from 19 to 24, both inclusive, representing hours of the first half of the night, and figures from 1 to 6, including both, standing for hours of the last half of the night, the other circle having thereon figures numbering from 7 to 12, including both, and representing the first half of the day, and figures numbering 13 to 18, including both, representing the last halfof the day, all arranged and operating substantially as shown and described.
