An object of my invention is to provide a snow plow which will efficiently cut the snow on a highway, and will instantly discharge the snow to either side as desired.
A further object of my invention is to provide a snow plow arrangement in which the plow includes a series of concave discs, such discs being adapted to cut into the snow bank and to discharge the snow laterally, and to include impeller members attached to the discs.
A further object of my invention is to provide a reversible arrangement.
With these and other objects in view, my invention consists in the construction, arrangement, and combination of the various parts of my device, whereby the objects contemplated are attained, as hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in my claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:

FIGURE 4 is a schematic view of the hydraulic circuit, and
FIGURE 5 is an enlarged sectional view of the valve control.
My invention contemplates the provision of a snow plow which is simple in construction in that it will elimimate a great many parts, the said plow being easily operable.
In describing my invention I have used the character to designate a forward portion of the truck 11 to which the plow can be attached, the character 12 indicating the forward wheels of the vehicle, the character 13 indicating certain vehicle framework portions, the character 14 indicating a forward transverse member for supporting the plow units, the character 15 indicating supporting braces attached at 16, the characters 17 and 18 indicating further bracing members.
The character 19 indicates a guard member extending into the arcuate portions 20 which extend downwardly into the vertical portions 21, and mounted on the trans verse member 14 are the three hydraulic motors 22 which drive the shafts 23, the said shafts 23 being attached to the circular discs 24, which discs 24 are concave in cross section as shown. Attached to the discs 24 as at 25 are the radially positioned impeller members 26 which protrude slightly at 27 beyond the confines of the guard member 20.
The character 28 indicates further supports or braces suitably attached at 29 to the members 13, these mem- The hydraulic motors 22 are operated by the various pipes 35 and 34 (see FIGURE 4), and communicating with these pipes is a control valve 36 having the control handle 37, the valve 36 including the inner core 38 having the ports 39 and 40 as shown in FIGURE 5.
The plow operates in the following manner. As the unit travels forwardly in the direction of the arrow 41, the hydraulic motors 22 will be operating to rotate the various discs 24 rapidly, and as the discs travel into the snow, the effect will be to gather the snow within the concave discs, the extending portions 27 assisting in the cutting action, and the relatively rapid rotation of the disc and the impellers 26 will cause the snow to be discharged forwardly in the direction of the arrow 42 (see FIGURE 2) and laterally in the direction of the arrows 43, the concave discs thereby providing both the cutting action as well as the discharging action without requiring the use of separate fans or other conveyors and the like.
The members 30 will cut away the lower portions along the highway and will deflect the snow into the discs at either side, and the surfaces 44 can be made as close to the discs as desired, although the disintegrating action of the discs and the blades 26 will carry away the snow at these portions.
The members 21 will provide a longitudinal slicing action to the snow at either side of the unit, and to provide a further discharging action at the rear of the discs 24, I provide a series of radially positioned flaps 45 attached to these discs to assist in throwing any further snow outwardly.
It will be noted from FIGURE 5 that the valve core 38 can be rotated :by means of the handle 37 to cause a reverse flow of the hydraulic oil through the motors 22 to reverse the direction of rotation of the discs (see dotted lines FIGURE 5) when it is desired to impel the snow forwardly and outwardly in the direction of the arrows 42 and 46.
Since it is usually necessary to throw the snow to one side and then the other in usual prcatice, this condition is met by means of the foregoing described apparatus.
Any number of discs 24 can be used for higher snow conditions or the like, or if desired, one or two discs could be used, yet utilizing the same basic principles mentioned herein.
It should also be understood that any other types of motors could be used, and it will now be noted that I have provided the advantages mentioned in the objects of my invention, with further advantages being apparent.
Some changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of the parts of my invention without departing from the real spirit and purpose of my invention, and it is my intention to cover by my claims any modified forms of structure or use of mechanical equivalents which may be reasonably included within their scope.
I claim as my invention:
1. A snow plow comprising a plurality of horizontally spaced hollow discs, means for rotating said discs, said discs each including a plurality of radially positioned impeller blades attached along the inner concave surfaces thereof, motors for driving said discs, means for reversing the rotation of said motors, a framework upon which said discs are supported, substantially triangular-shaped members positioned between certain of said discs for cutting away lower snow portions, a plurality of radially positioned further impellers attached along the convex surfaces of said discs, guard member's partially surrounding said discs, said guard members including vertically positioned side portions.
