Description
W. K. ALLAN.
Plow.
No. 3,416. Patented Jan 31, 1844.
MPEIERS, FNOTU-LITHOGRAFHER. WASHINGTON. D. C.
UNITED STATES PATENT Orrlcet WILLIAM ALLAN, OF BROWNSBOROUGH, KENTUCKY.
IMPROVEMENT IN ADJUSTING P LOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 3,416, dated January 31, 1844.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM K. ALLAN, of Brownsborough, Oldham county, StateofKentucky, have invented a new and useful In]- provementin the Plow, which is described as follows, reference being had to the annexed drawings of the same, making part of this specification. I
Figure is a side elevation of the plow. Fig. 2 is a plan of the handles.
A represeutsthebeam B, the handles; O, the sheth or standard; D, the mold-board; E, the land-share F, a brace.
The whole plow is made of metal.
The bolts only are used for securing the mold-board and land-bar to the stock, and these are marked G and H.
The beam, handles, and sheath are rendered adjustable, so as to assume any required angle with a horizontal plane for the purpose of adapting the plow to the use intended by having the rearend of the beam ati and the lower end of the sheth at h perforated with oblong slots or mortises, through which the bolts H I pass. These bolts are provided with nuts for the purpose of holding the several parts of the stock to the angle or position at which the are set, by screwing them up firmly.
The boltl passes through the handles B B, as well as through the beam A.
One of the handles, B, is straight, the other, B, is partly straight and partly curved, as represented in Fig. 2.
The rear end of the beam is placed between the handles at J. The clevis end of the beam is made in the form of a hook, to which the clevis is attached.
The metallic adjustable stock aforesaid will answer for many mold-boards and land-bars, it being only necessary, when one is worn out and another is to beput on in its place, to Withdraw and again insert thescrewbolts H G.
I make no claim to the individual parts of the plow, nor to makingit entirely of metal; but
All thatlclnim, and for which I ask Letters Patent, is
The adjustable plow-stock, in combination with the adjustable handles, as set forth.
. \VM. K. ALLAN.
