This invention relates to a money carrier.

It is an object of this invention to provide a money carrier with at least two clips hinged unaligned to each other by a hinge and with each clip with a pair of legs and a V-shaped portion with the front outer clip with its legs in front of its V-shaped portion and the back outer clip with its V-shaped portion in front of its legs. In this way, the legs of the clips will be on the outside of the complete carrier. When three clips are used, the second or intermediate clip will coincide with the first front outer clip,

with the third clip in reversed position and unaligned relative to the first and second clips.

Another object of the invention resides in a money carrier having a data plate mounted and secured to the legs of the two outside clips with such plate or plates comprising a calendar, decimal table chart or any other de sired data.

A still further object of the invention resides in a money carrier in which the outer clips or compartments will not cause or create a swelling or bulging of the clips at the hinge, and this is irrespective of the number of bills that may be placed in the clips.

A further object of the invention resides in a structure to create a friction so that the clips or compartments may be held open for better inspection of their contents when they are fanned out.

A still further object of the invention resides in the fastening means in a cover or fold over case with the clips accessible after the covers of the case are spread apart or opened.

The features of this invention involve the multiple clip unit in which the clips are frictionally held in the hinge for rotation wih resistance, and the feature of a casing or cover connected to and in which the clip unit is removably or securely mounted.

Further objects will be apparent from the following description when considered in connection with the accompanying drawings in which:

FIG. 1 shows the money carrier in the open position with the hinge 10 provided with a purality of wire clips 11 held therein by friction and each having a pack of bills 12 held therein.

13, 14 and 15. The clip 15 has the side plate 16 secured thereto by means of rivets 17 passing through the eye 18 with the legs 19 on the outside and the V-section 20 on the inside. The second clip 14 has the legs 21 and the V-section 22 in reverse relationship relative to clip 15, that is, as viewed in FIG. 2, the legs 21 are in front of the V-section 22. In both FIGS. 1 and 2, the clips are secured in the hinge with frictional resistance on the clips in the hinge parts by frictional contact movement of the ends of the hinge clamps with the clips. The ends of the hinge cheeks 25 contact corners of the loops of

13, 14 and 19 are mounted in the hinge 25. The usual plate 16 is secured to the clip 19 as in FIG. 2. The hinge 25 has a U-shaped member 27 secured to the hinge bar 26 with a locking clamp 28 pivoted thereon at 29. In the full line position, the clips are clamped in locking position, but in the dotted position thia1 clips may fan out with the clips separated from each 0t .er.

FIG. 4 shows the multiple money clip 30 similar to the structure of FIG. 2. A bent metal band 31 is pivotally mounted or attached to one of the outer clips on the leg 32 at 33, and this metal band is adapted to clamp over the contents of the multiple clip device.

FIG. 6 shows a multiple money clip with the two

37 and 38 and the intermediate clip '61 connected by a hinge 39. The usual metal plate 40 is secured to the clip 37 by rivets 41 and a larger plate 42 is secured to the clip 38 by rivets 43. The plate 42 may comprise a calendar or certain engineering data or standards of measure, etc.

FIG. 7 shows the multiple money clip of the usual type, for instance, rotatably secured at the center 44 to an outer cover or casing 45 by means of the hinge bar. This figure shows by arrows 46 and the dotted line positions that the clip device can be rotated 360 if desired.

FIG. 8 shows the clip device 47 and the clip 48 secured to a backing section 49 of leather, paper, or other suitable material secured on a cover or casing 50. The clip 48 is secured to the section 49 by rivets 52, and the sheet 49 may be secured to the cover 50 by an adhesive or by other means such as sewing, etc.

FIG. 9 shows a money carrier 53 mounted in a cover or casing 54 by means of a removable section 55 which may be inserted or slipped in a pocket 55' formed by a cover member 56. It is also possible to secure this section 55 on the cover 54 instead of in a pocket.

FIG. shows the money carrier 57 mounted in a wallet 58 in which the carrier 57 is secured to a section 59 by means of which the carrier is held in the pocket 60 of the wallet so that it is removable if desired. The center clip 61 is also shown in this figure as well as in FIG. 9.

FIG. 11 shows a clip assembly 62 with a plate 68 and wire-loops 69 mounted in a cover 63 by means of rivets 64 and a plurality of stitches 65. The hinge 66 is provided approximately at the center bend position 67. Obviously, in accordance to my invention the clip assembly 62. can be attached by means of rivets 64 through wire loops 69 to the cover 63 so that, for instance, the name plate 68 of the clip assembly 62 is held on the outside of the cover 63 with the name plate, for instance, showing an advertisement, or more than one name plate can be provided on the clip assembly, or the clip assembly can be attached, for instance, directly to the cover 63 by its wire loops 69 without any plate. A plate can be provided on one of the other clip compartments so that in case of an advertisement inscribed name plate, the advertising inscription then in such case is visible when the cover 63 is opened.

The last one of the multiple clip units, that is the second outer clip, is arranged so that the upper bars of said outer last clip and the second outer clip itself, are not in the same alignment as the preceding one and in fact the last outer clip is turned 180 in the unaligned position with respect to the other clips. Such unalignment in accordance to my invention is especially pronounced by curving parts of the clips, which brings the clips 13 to at their outer ends in tight contact for a better contact with lock means, not shown, to hold these ends together, and makes the unit flatter at the bottom opposite the hinge means.

Further, many advantages of this invention are seen in that both outer compartments of such multiple unit can be made useful for the attachment of a name plate, or other attachments, for instance a calendar plate or decimal chart, either securely or interchangeably mounted, or by securing the multiple clip-unit into a casing, as for instance by means of cold-set rivets. Such is accomplished in accordance to my invention in a most satisfactory manner because the unit is flat at the bottom opposite the hinge means when folded together. A curving of the clips in accordance to my invention improves this condition of flatness because a curving causes a still more pronounced unalignment on top where the hinge holds the multiple unit together which results to a still greater flatness of the unit at the bottom opposite the hinge means and prevents thereby an unwanted spreading and bulging up of the unit at the bottom which is important when one carries such item in a pocket or when such attachments are made on outer clip compartments as for instance heretofore described.

A multiple clip construction can also be used, for instance, very suitably as a carrier for identifications at conventions even when the first compartment of such multiple unit has a name plate attached because it permits the use of the other outside clip compartment of the multiple unit, in such a way that for instance one of the legs or both legs of such second outer compartment, due to their flexibility, can be inserted into a lapel button hole of a mans jacket, whereas theother clip compartments of the multiple unit can be used to clamp in visible identification cards needed for conventions, etc. Such use is very practical because the person can easily remove such clip from his lapel button hole after the convention and use it as a multiple money clip.

The construction permits furthermore a suitable attachment of the clip unit into a suitable casing for instance a leather casing.

The invention also comprises pivotal closures on a multiple money carrier. It is new to create such pivotal closures on a multiple money clip for the purpose of holding together a multiple money clip unit against undesired self opening and releasing the various compartments for the purpose of tanning out the clips. The new arrangement of the multiple clip permits also a holding together by the lower legs to extend over and around both sides of the contents of the money clip by releasable means on one of the other clips for closing and unclosing purposes of the unit.

A further part of my invention is a multiple money-clip in a casing in which all of the multiple clip compartments can be put to use to hold bills or cards or other objects which one wants to carry in a dividing device and which permits, by a fanning out, a quick survey of the contents.

The invention also contemplates a wallet 58, FIG. 10, with the multiple clip device 57 for clipping in bills, cards and the like, the multiple clip device being held by a hinge. So far there exist money clips in a casing with only a single clip which has the disadvantage that, when bills or materials get clamped therein they can only be clamped in one bunch and on most of these one-clip devices in a billfold, the arrangement was such that the clip is attached in the center of the billfold, for instance by using a known bobby pin, with holding means, arranged in the center of a billfold which, however, do not permit clamping in a stiff card because this would not permit the closing of the billfold. In accordance with my invention it is for the first time possible to have a multiple clamping device in a billfold which allows the clamping of stiff objects such as cards, as well as paper money. One can employ various methods for holding and the attachment of such multiple device in a wallet or billfold or casing.

In accordance with my invention, I, for instance, can by means of cold-set rivets attach to one of the outer clips 21 piece of material, preferably leather, artificial leather, etc., or other material, and then glue the so-attached piece of material into a wallet. Such outer clip which I have used for that purpose can still be used as a clip to hold material therein. I can also hold such attachment on one of the outer clips invisible, because such riveted-on pieces of material can be glued on the inside of a cover-up pocket of a wallet or underneath a cover-up piece of material inserted in the clip, or the piece of material can be held without glue by friction or otherwise within a pocket. Also stitches can be added or employed.

When I use a construction of a multiple clip unit as described above, I can provide the other outer clip with a name plate for advertising purposes, whereas the known disadvantages of, for instance, advertising inscribed billfolds or leather wallets by means of inscribing such advertising onto the leather are fully overcome because such methods had the disadvantage of no wearing quality because the inscription on the leather came off.

I can, for instance, attach the multiple clip unit as per my invention to the overlapping casing by riveting each outer clip to one of the over-lapping parts of the casing so that I still can make use of all three clip compartments for clamping purposes. In this case, I take, for instance, a piece of leather in about the length or longer of a dollar bill, fold the piece of casing in the center, and rivet one of the outer clips to each half of the casing, in which case the hinge-bar of the multiple clip unit is in the approximate center of the folded piece of leather material, for instance.

In such way of attachment, I can rivet thereon a metal plate in such a Way that the metal plate with, for instance, advertising thereon is outside the leather cover and is riveted, at the same time when the respective clip compartment is riveted to the respective piece of material overlapping the dollar bills in the closed position. Also, here one can, for decorating or advertising purposes, provide a metal plate to take the place of an inscription of foil material on the leather, which latter may wear off easily.

I can attach a multiple clip unit of my invention also by riveting the hinge directly to a cover.

FIGS. 7 to 11 show the multiple clip unit held in a hinge for pivotal opening and closing and set into the leather or artificial leather casing or a casing from some other material by means of a rivet eyelet, fastener, and the like, attaching the multiple clip unit to the casing, the rivet such as 44 in FIG. 7 being set through the hinge. Also, more than one rivet may be used.

The multiple clip unit in a hinge device for pivotal closing can be attached in many other ways to the casing. As a further example, some of the wire parts which extend sideways outwardly from the hinge can be used to offer the hold and the attachment to the casing, for instance, by sewing or by a threading means. In case of such an attachment where the wire parts which extend sideways and outwardly from the hinge cheeks are used for the attachment to the casing, the attachment may be made through any desired number of the wire parts, regardless if it is the outer or center clip, and in a manner that the proper opening and closing of the multiple unit is not interfered with. Thus, one can attach a multiple clip unit into a casing also by rivets, as an example, with the free loops of the wire legs of a clip compartment attached to the casing. In case such attachment is carried out only With one outer clip compartment, it is suggested in accordance with the invention to hold the opposite part, for instance the loop part through which the hinge extends, by means of thread extending through to parts of the cover or by any other means which holds the unit in position.

Another way of attachment of the multiple unit to the casing is, for instance, one in which the attachment to the casing is carried out in such a Way that the multiple clip unit is provided, for instance, with a plate or bar or part attached to one of the clip compartments with the riveting or attaching to the casing is accomplished through the plate or part or bar which has been attached to one of the clip compartments.

The numerous examples which I have given for a suitable attachment of a multiple clip unit to or into a casing show that in accordance with my invention any part of the unit can be used for holding the multiple unit in or to a casing. The clip elements of this multiple clip unit as per my invention can be made of any suitable material and can have any desired shape and size.

Another object of the invention resides in a structure to prevent a shifting of the clips which mostly occurs sidewardly if a plurality of clip elements with loops are hinged together and thereby cause easily a wedging of certain clip elements into each other even so if they are originally unaligned together. I have prevented such shifting by closing the cheek portions of the hinge around the bar portions of the clip elements in such a way that they contact corners of the wire loops as such is shown in FIG. 2, No. 25.

Another object of the invention is to prevent wedging of neighboring clip elements in a multiple money carrier consisting out of a plurality of clip elements in a hinge for opening and closing the device, by creating at least one of the clip elements in the multiple clip unit considerably smaller in size, not shown, than its neighboring clip so that the smaller sized clip is allowed freely to move into and out of the larger sized clip and thereby a wedging into each other of two neighboring clips is prevented. See FIG. 7. Any construction of a multiple clipdevice where one of the clip elements can wedge into the other is a completely ruined device and ofiers no possibility of being used as a multiple money carrier.

Finally, another object of this invention is, as shown in FIG. 7 to provide the cover for a multiple money carrier with an intermediate part either being permanently mounted into the cover or being held removable from the cover and means for pivotally attaching the hinge of the multiple money carrier to the intermediate part to permit rotation of the clip element and the hinge relative to the cover. Such addition of an intermediate part which is a part of the cover, adds strength to the cover and gives to the rotation of the clip unit a longer lifetime and makes the installation of the multiple clip unit into the cover less visible from the outside.

It is expressly emphasized that the scope of this invention is not to be construed as limited by the drawings or the description but that, to the contrary, it is limited to the claims submitted herewith defining the scope of this invention.

What I claim as my invention is:

1. A multiple money carrier comprising a plurality of clip elements and a hinge connected to the clip elements for opening and closingthe carrier and a casing with overlapping parts, the hinge and clip elements mounted in the casing to protect the contents of the clips when the carrier is in use, the overlapping parts permitting the proper opening and closing of the multiple carrier, and at least one of the clip elements having an attachment thereon whereby the clip elements are attached to the casing.

2. A device according to claim 1, in which one of the clip elements has a plate attached by fastening means so that the plate is held on the outside of the casing and a fastening means extends through the plate, the casing, and parts of the clip element.

3. A multiple money carrier comprising a plurality of clip elements, a cover for the clip elements, the plurality of clip elements adapted to hold bills in groups and united by a common hinge, the plurality of clip elements together with the cover being operable to permit access to insert and withdraw money therefrom and to be closed together to be carried in a pocket or purse, said cover being attached by means of at least one of the clip elements.

4. A multiple money carrier comprising a plurality of clip elements including outer clips and a hinge connected to the clip elements for opening and closing the carrier and a casing with overlapping parts, the hinge and clip elements mounted in the casing to protect the contents of the clips when the carrier is in use, the overlapping parts permitting the proper opening and closing of the multiple carrier, a plate attached to one of the outer clips, and fastening means for the plate so that the plate is held to the outside of the casing with the fastening means extending through the plate and the casing as well as a part of the clip element.

5. A multiple money carrier comprising a plurality of clip elements and a common hinge connected to the clip elements for opening and closing the carrier, the individual clip elements in their plurality assembled in such a manner that they can swing and pivot within the hinge and ready for clamping action, said hinge and clip elements being mounted in a casing to protect the contents of the clips when the unit is in use, the overlapping parts of the casing permitting the proper opening and closing of the multiple carrier, and means for attaching the hinge to the casing rigid against rotation but allowing the pluralit of clip elements to move and swing freely in the common hinge.

6. A multiple billholding device comprising a plurality of clip elements with bar portions and loops, the bar portions being straight, a hinge with the clip elements arranged in and held together thereby for opening and closing the device, the hinge having a base portion and cheek portions with the cheek portions closing around the straight bar portions of the clip elements, the clip elements being blocked by permanent and unreleasable contact between at least two outer edges of the hinge cheeks and at least two outer edges of the wire loops whereby to prevent sideward shifting of any of the plurality of the clip elements, the clip elements at all times remaining fully undisturbed free movably and swingably in the common hinge and each clip element acting independently and functioning as such ready to receive and clamp bills in the elements and any one of such plurality of clip elements remaining in position against sideward shifting due wedging into each other.

Claims

4. A MULTIPLE MONEY CARRIER COMPRISING A PLURALITY OF CLIP ELMENTS INCLUDING OUTER CLIPS AND A HINGE CONNECTED TO THE CLIP ELEMENTS FOR OPENING AND CLOSING THE CARRIER AND A CASING WITH OVERLAPPING PARTS, THE HINGE AND CLIP ELEMENTS MOUNTED IN THE CASING TO PROTECT THE CONTENTS OF THE CLIPS WHEN THE CARRIER IS IN USE, THE OVERLAPPING PARTS PERMITTING THE PROPER OPENING AND CLOSING OF THE MULTIPLE CARRIER, A PLATE ATTACHED TO ONE OF THE OUTER CLIPS, AND FASTENING MEANS FOR THE PLATE SO THAT THE PLATE IS HELD TO THE OUTSIDE OF THE CASING WITH THE FASTENING MEAND EXTEND-
