(CI. 70-57) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The application discloses a cap which is especially designed to receive the neck of a bottle and secure the bottle in place so that a drink dispenser in communication with the interior of the bottle is secure once it has been attached to the cap. Security of the dispenser is achieved by providing a specially wound clamping member within the cap, the member being operated by a wheel and key. An elongated slot is provided in the cap to receive the key. Tampering with the wheel without possessing the key is thereby discouraged and the dispenser is made relatively secure when the bottle is thusly clamped in position.
This invention relates to drink dispensing apparatus and in particular to such apparatus having accessory security devices for preventing unwanted removal of the beverage container and metering each drink as it is dispensed therefrom.
In the usual drink dispensers having security means the bottle or other container for the drinking liquid is secured by a locking member which is disposed within the bottle and is provided with fingers which may be spread therewithin so as to engage the interior of the bottle beneath its neck portion. Thus engaged the bottle may not be withdrawn when the member is locked. According to the present invention there is provided a plastic cap securable to the dispenser and having a security device in the form of an encircling clamp adapted to continuously engage in a single plane the exterior of the bottle preferably at its neck. The means for securing the cap to the dispenser is located below the point of engagement so that tampering with the dispenser when the bottle is locked in place is prevented.
One object of the invention is to provide a security device for a drink dispenser which is economical to manufacture, efiicient in operation while providing complete assurance against undesirable removal of the drink container and tampering with the dispenser to which the device is attached.
Other objects and advantages of the invention may be appreciated on reading the following detailed description of an embodiment thereof which is taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIG. 1 is a view in elevation showing the drink dispenser and meter;
FIG. 2 is a view of the dispenser taken in elevation;
FIG. 3 is an enlarged section taken on line 33 of FIG. 2; and
FIG. 4 is a section taken on line 4-4 of FIG. 3.
FIG. 5 is a section taken on line 55 of FIG. 4.
Referring to the drawings, plastic cap is positioned on dispenser 12 and receives the neck of bottle 14, which holds the beverage to be dispensed. Inserted in the wall of the cap is security device 16 disposed in elongated slot 17 at the inner end of which wheel 19 is disposed. A key 20 is inserted in the device 16 an extension of which engages slot 21 in wheel 19. The latter has conventional teeth for engaging in the member 18, as shown in FIG. 5,
so as to tighten the clamping member on the neck of the bottle 14.
The cap 10 is secured to the dispenser 12 by means of diagonally disposed set screw 22 located below the member 18 and hence rendered inaccessible when the bottle 14 is locked in place. The dispenser is supported on the reduced end of post 24, the dispenser providing'an enlarged recess 26 to receive the end of the post for support purposes.
A cork 28 in the open end of the bottle has a bore through which extends a vertical sleeve 30 integrally secured to the dispenser when the bottle is assembled in the dispenser. The sleeve contains a hollow tube 32 which provides communication between the interior of the bottle and shot section 34 of the dispenser. The section 34 communicates with the outside by means of outlet pipe 36 having ports 38 within the shot section. Fitting over the end of the pipe within the shot section and adapted to open and close the ports 38 is slide valve 40 the top of which is guided by depending pins 42. The top end of the slide valve is recessed and adapted to bear in top position against the end of the tube 32 for sealing purposes. The valve is normally in down position with the shot section 34 fullof liquid. When it is desired to dispense one shot portion of beverage, the slide valve is momentarily raised by solenoid action to be described.
Solenoid 44 housed in diagonally extending dispenser chamber 46 is provided with an armature 48 which is normally in raised position due to spring 50 connecting the armature to the top of the chamber 46. The solenoid is energized through conductors 52, post 54 inserted on assembly into the reduced end of post 24, slide contacts 56 and outlet lead 58. The lead 58 is connected into the circuit through micro switch 60 which is closed when a glass 62 is placed on throw arm 64 thereof.
The armature 48 is connected to the slide valve 40 by means of lever 66 and connecting actuator 68. The lever 66 is pivoted on link 70 which itself is pivotally connected to the top of the chamber 46 to provide for vertical movement of the actuator and slide valve.
A meter 74 is also connected into the solenoid circuit to register on a travelling sheet 76 by means of punch holes the number of solenoid actuations and resulting drinks dispensed.
Various modifications of the invention may be effected by persons skilled in the art without departing from the scope and principle thereof as defined in the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
1. A bottle securing device in combination with a drink dispenser comprising a cap mounted on said dispenser, a clamping member mounted in said cap and disposed about the exterior of said bottle, said clamping member being spirally arranged about said bottle, said cap having an elongated slot therein, a wheel in the inner end of the slot in engagement with said member and key means inserted through said slot and fitted into said wheel for the purpose of clamping said cap to the bottle.
