SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 341,022, dated May 4, 1886.

Application filed December 17, 1884. Serial No. 150,506. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, WILLIAM F. KRULL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Springfield, in the county of Clark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvemerits in OlothesSupports, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to certain improvements in supports upon which to hang articles of wearing-apparel; and it has for its objects to provide a compact and convenient device upon which the articles may be placed, and

will preserve their shape, as more fully hereinafter set forth. These objects I attain by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my improved device entire. Fig. 2 represents a cross-section taken on the line y y of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 a cross-section taken on the line at w of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 represents a sectional view of a portion of the device, showing the latch mechanism.

The letter A indicates a rod or shaft, which is preferably cylindrical in cross-section, and which may be constructed of any suitable material. The upper end of said rod is provided with ahook, B, by which it may be suspended, and just below said hook with a loosely or rigidly fitted cross-plate, O. The said plate at its ends is provided with downwardly-extendin g flanges O, and below said flanges are hinged the upper ends of two curved wings, D, shaped to conform to the shoulders of a person.

The letters D D indicate the wings of the hinge, to which the wings D are attached; and D, plates secured to the under side of the plate 0, forming the central portion of thehinge, to which the wings D are pivoted at (Z. The office of the flanges C is to cover the upper edges of the wings D, and prevent them from coming in contact with the garment, and prevent them from rising too high, and also to give a neat finish to the device. These wings, underneath and near their outer ends, are provided with cross-wires E, to which are pivoted the outer ends of the braces F, the inner ends of which are pivoted to the head of the sleeve G, adapted to slide upon the shaft or bar. The said shaft or bar is provided with an umbrella latch, H, which is adapted to set through the slot K in the sleeve and hold the arms in an elevated position. The latch K is provided with an extension below its bend, which extension is bent outwardly, formingastop, L, which projects normally outward and holds thesleeve, to prevent downward movement when it is elevated.

The lower end of the rod or shaft is provided with an eye, M, to which may be secured the hook'N of a short rod, 1?. The said rod is provided with longitudinally-flanged arms R, ex tending diametrically to opposite sides of the same, in which are adapted to slide similarlyflanged arms T, which are slotted longitudinally and carry the sliding arms U, which have curved heads V at their outer ends and adjusting clamping-nuts V, which can be clamped upon the arms T, so as to bind the parts. The

lower rod is also provided with a disk, Y, from which extend diametrically in four directions the upwardly-inclined springs Z, to which are attached the suspended straps A, which have at their lower ends the eye-loops B, as shown.

To use my improved device, the upper shaft is suspended from any suitable support, and V the wings being raised or elevated the upper garment or coat may be placed upon the same and supported thereby in a natural position. The lower shaft may be attached, as above described, to the upper shaft, and the lower garment or pantaloons supported thereon, the curved outer ends of the adjustable radial rods being pushed in or out, so as to keep the upper parts of the pantaloons materially distended, while the dependent straps, by means of the button-loops, will serve as a support to the pants, the loops being secured over the buttons. It is evident that the parts may be used sepa rately or together without departing from the spirit of my invention.

1. The combination, with the vertical shaft or rod provided with a hook at its upper end, of the pivoted wings, the braces and sliding sleeve, and latch device, to form a support for a garment, substantially as described, and for the purposes set forth.
