C. MARTIN KELLER, OF COLUMBUS, INDIANA.
COKE-CRUSHER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 341,015, dated May 4, 1886.
Application filed January 22, 1886.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, O. MARTIN KELLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Golumbus, in the county of Bartholomew and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Coke-Crushers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in that class of machines for crushing coke which consist of a pair of opposed rolls having on their peripheries a series of longitudinal ribs, and geared together so as to revolve simultaneously in opposite directions.
The object of my improvement is to provide a machine of the class mentioned which may be cheaply made, which will be durable, and which may be readily adjusted, all as hereinafter fully described.
The accompanying drawings illustrate my invention.
Figure 1 represents a side elevation; Fig. 2, a plan, having the hopper removed; Fig. 3, an enlarged transverse section of one of the rolls, and Fig. 4 a longitudinal section of the same.
A is a casting forming a bed-frame, in which are formed bearings for the main shaft 0. A second shaft, 0, is mounted in movable bearings d d, arranged to slide on the bed-frame, and adjustably secured in position by setscrews 6 0. Upon each of the shafts b and 0, between the sides of the bed-frame, is secured a hollow cylindrical roll, 1', having on its periphery and cast integral therewith a series of longitudinal ribs, f f. Said ribs are shown as substantially triangular in section.
Serial No. 189,356. (No model.)
Shafts b and c, carrying rolls 1' r, are con nected so as to revolve simultaneously in opposite directions by a pair of spur gear-wheels, h and i. The teeth of said wheels are of such length that the distance between the rolls may be varied without interfering with the proper intermeshing of the gear-teeth. The rolls are relatively so arranged on their respective shafts that the ribs of one come opposite the spaces between the ribs of the other as they revolve. On the main shaft 1) is also secured a belt-pulley, P, and a balance-wheel, IV.
H is a hopper mounted on the bed-frame above and between the rolls.
In operation the coke to be crushed is thrown into the hopper H, and passes from thence between the rolls, the distance between which is adjusted by means of the set-screws e e, so as to reduce the coke to the required degree of fineness.
I claim as my invention- The above-described coke-crusher, consisting of the bed-frame A, having formed therein fixed bearings for the shaft I), hopper H, shafts b and a, movable bearings d d, set-screws e e, rolls 1' 1', having the longitudinal ribsf f, gear-wheels h and i, pulley P, and balancewheel XV, all combined and arranged to co operate as and for the purpose specified.
G. MARTIN KELLER.
