Description
D. A. BARG' Aug. 27, 1968 BRASS IERE Filed May 19, 1966 INVENTOR DORAABARG ATTORNEY United States Patent 3,398,749 BRASSIERE Dora A. Barg, 4573 N. 30th St., Milwaukee, Wis. 53209 Filed May 19, 1966, Ser. No. 551,306 6 Claims. (Cl. 128-513) My invention relates to brassieres, and more particularly to a brassiere equipped with pockets for receiving and carrying valuable articles such as jewelry, money and the like.
The primary object of my invention is to provide a brassiere which has easily accessible pockets on the exterior surface of the conventional b-reast cups which provide secure receptacles for the wearers valuable articles.
Another object of my invention is to provide a brassiere having pockets which may be easily closed by hookless fasteners or the like, and which provide a smooth outer contour to the breast cups.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a brassiere having both inner and outer pockets in each breast cup thereof, the outer pockets being sealable for conveying valuable articles such as jewelry, money, or the like, and the inner pocket being equipped with over-lapping portions for receiving and retaining conventional padding, or the like.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a brassiere which is adaptable in use to provide a uniform contour to the wearers breasts even when in the natural state, those breasts are disproportionate.
It is manifest to anyone familiar with the use of brassieres, that the prime object of the garment is to provide the wearer with an even and natural breast contour and the present invention is based upon my design of such a breast garment, which is additionally provided with pockets on the outer surface, sealed by means of a hookless fastener, or the like, for conveying valuables such as money or the like, and an inner pocket, sealed by overlapping members, for retaining any conventional padding material to accommodate variations in the relative size of the breasts proper.
These and still further objects of my invention as shall hereinafter become more apparent are readily fulfilled by the present invention in a remarkably unexpected fashion as will be discerned from the following detailed junction with the drawings, in which:
FIG. 1 is a perspective front view of the entire assembled device of the present invention, showing one front pocket sealed entirely by a conventional hookless fastener, and the other pocket partially open;
FIG. 2 is a perspective rear view of the assembleddevice of the present invention, illustrating the inner pockets, and showing one pocket partially open to receive the padding;
FIG. 3 is a vertical cross-sectional view of the device, showing the front and rear pockets, sealed and empty; and
FIG. 4 is a similar view as shown in FIG. 3, showing padding material disposed in the rear, or inner pocket.
Referring now to the drawing wherein similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts and features throughout the several views, the character generally represents the body portion of the brassiere which is equipped with adjustable shoulder straps 11, adjustable by any convenient means such, for example, as buckle 12. Straps 11 are attached to the top edge-of body 10 as at 13, and are attached at their rearward end as at 14 to the body encircling strap 15 which normally comprises two portions 15 and 15". Body encircling portions 15 and 14" may be separately attached to or be formed integrally of body 10.
As shown in FIG. 2, one of the strap portions, for instance portion 15' is provided with a portion of elastic material 16, and a plurality of apertures 17, while portion 15" is shown equipped with hooks 18 which upon engagement with apertures 17 complete the definition of body encircling strap 15.
Thus body portion 10, surrounds and supports the breasts of the wearer, and is maintained in position by the coaction of shoulder straps 11 and body encircling strap 15.
There are two outwardly disposed breast cups 19 and 19' on the front of the body portion 10. Cups 19, 19' are attached to the outer, or forward face of body portion 10, and each is constructed of two sections 28, 29 which are joined at their approximate edges by means of a hookless fastener such as zipper 20, although any other conventional and convenient fastening means may "be employed to join sections 28, 29 and thereby seal the outer sections of the pockets 27 so formed in breast cups 19 and 19'. As shown, fastener 20 comprises a track means 30, a portion of which is connected to each of sections 28, 29 and a slide member 22 movable on and relative to said track means 30 to open and close pocket 27.
A pad of material 21 is shown disposed between the breast cups 19 and 19 and attached to body portion 10 to the cups 19, 19' and to cover and contain each of the sliding members 22 of each of the hookless fasteners 20. If desired, other means may be employed to cover sliding member 22 to keep the surface of the breast cups 19 and 19' smooth. As shown, it is preferable to dispose fasteners 20 in such a way that sliding members 22 are positioned adjacent each other and adjacent the center or cleavage line of the brassiere when the outer pockets are in their closed or sealed position.
Each breast cup 19, 19 is also provided with inner pockets 23 which are in registry with outer breast cups 19 and 19. Inner pockets 23, 23' (each are pockets 30, 30') are defined by and consist of a lower flap 24 and an upper flap 25 which is longer than flap 24 and overlaps it to retain pad 26, which may be of any suitable type of padding such as cotton or the like. The overlapping of flap 24 by flap 25 also prevents pad 26 from engaging the skin of the wearer.
Obviously the amount of padding 26 disposed in the pocket 23 may be varied to take care of any variation in sizes of the natural breast of the user with which it is associated.
From the foregoing description, it is manifest that a most useful brassiere has been herein described and illustrated which provides, in addition to normal breast support for the wearer, frontal or exterior pockets 27 for containing and conveying valuables such as jewelry, money, and the like, and rear or interior pockets 23 for receiving and containing padding material 26, which will permit the user to achieve a preselected form, shape, size and contour to her breasts and thereby augment any deficiency believed to exist in the naturally occurring appendage.
While I have shown a brassiere having a relatively specific construction and arrangement of the parts, it is understood that many changes may be made in this construction and arrangement without effecting the operativeness, thereof or departing from my novel concept of providing both interior and exterior pockets in the breast cups thereof and it is intended to include herein any such variations, modifications and applications as may be accomplished without departing from the spirit hereof, especially as it is defined by the scope of the claims appending herefrom.
Accordingly, what I claim is:
1. In a brassiere having a pair of spaced breast cups, the improvement comprising each of said breast cups having a first pocket defined on and carried by the exterior surface thereof for receiving and containing valuables therein without disturbing the natural effect to be created thereby, and a second pocket defined on and carried by the interior surface of each cup for receiving, and containing padding material for augmenting the form, shape, size and contour of the natural breast support thereby.
2. The improvement according to claim 1 in which each of said first pockets comprises an upper section, a lower section, and a hookless fastener operatively interposed between said upper and lower sections and operable to selectively open and close said pocket.
3. The improvement according to claim 1 in which each of said second pockets comprises an upper flap and a lower flap, said upper flap being longer than said lower flap overlapping a portion of said lower flap to prevent said padding material from contacting the skin of the wearer. I
4. The improvement according to claim 2 in which said hookless fastener comprises track means attached to said sections and a slide disposed on and movable relative to said track means.
5. The improvement according to claim 2 in which a pad is operatively interposed between and connected to said breast cups to establish and maintain a fixed spaced relationship between said breast cups and to receive and contain a portion of said fastener when said pocket is in a sealed condition.
6. The improvement according to claim in which said pocket and said second pocket in each of said breast cups are postioned in substantial registry with each other.
