l HOUSEHLD FURNITURE. No. 339,614 Patented Apr. 13, 1886.
wk* A UNITED Srn'rns larnivfr @erica XVEISEL REALE, OF NFV MADRID, ll'llSSOURl.
HOUSEHOLD FURNlTURE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent NO. 339.614, dated April 13,1886.
Application filed November '23, 1885. Serial No. 133,760. (No model.)
To @ZZ 1071.017?. zit may concern: y
Bc it known that l, WnrsnL BnALn, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at New Madrid, in the county ot' New Madrid, State oi' Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Household Furniture, of which the following is a specication, reference being hadtherein to the accompanying drawings.
. My invention relates to an improved device which is applicable to drawers for furniture; andit consists in an angularbracket or bearing provided with means for preventing a drawer from binding, as will be fully understood from the following description, when taken in connection with the annexed drawings.
Figure l is asectional View taken vertically and longitudinally through a bureau, showing my invention applied to three drawers, one of which is partly drawn out. Fig. 2 is a peu speotive view of my improved angular bracket 0r bearing provided with anti-friction rollers. Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view of a bearing-rail having a double inverted-V-shaped surface adapted for a concave anti-friction base-roller or for a ^-shaped slide. lFig. i is a perspective View showing my improved angular bracket or bearing without anti-friction rollers.
A designates, for example, a bureau provided with drawers D I) D and horizontal strips or bearers B B B, which bearers have inverted-V-shaped upper rolling surfaces, Z1, and dat or horizontal bottom surfaces, c, as clearly indicated in Fig. 3. These bearers or horizontal rails serve a twofold purpose, as will hereinafter appear, and they are secured to the back of the bureau and to the facingstrip C, as shown in Fig. l.
4It is obvious that my invention is applicable to a single drawer of a piece of furniture. l. will especially refer to one drawer D and the case or recess therefor.
E designates my improved angular bracket or bearing, which is made oi` suitable material and perforated to receive screws, by means of which it is rigidly secured to therear or inner end of the drawer and at the middle ot' the width thereof. This device consists of a vertical portion, c, preferably terminated at both ends bya right angular lip, d, as shown in Fig.
2, whereby the bracket or bearing is reversi ble, the lowest lip being secured to thebottorn of the drawer and the upper lip overhanging the drawerspaoe. In this Fig. 2 I have represented the upper angle notched out at f to receive a cylindrical roller, h, and at the lower angle I showa notched-out recess, y, in which I apply a concave roller, c'. I have thus shown how I am able to prevent lateral displacement or binding of a drawer, and at the saine tinie to afford rear rolling bearings therefor. It is obvious that the cylindrical roller bears upward against the iiat surface a of the upperrail B, and that the concave roller z' bears upon the double inclined surfaces b of the lower rail B; and it is also obvious that the bracket E affords a substantial brace for the drawer to sustain it when heavily loaded between its two rails and drawn partly out of its chamber. The rollers rare i'rnstra of cones. The bearingsurtaces are especially adapted to inipinge against the fiat sides of an inverted- V'shaped rail.
My improved bracket, constructed as above described, may be provided with a right cylindrical roller at its upper end, seated in the notch of the upper angle, and adapted to bear against a barB, the lower rollerhaving a notch in it.
It is clearly obvious that the gist of my invention consists in a bracket or fianged piece having a horizontal guide on its upper end adapted to serve as an upward right angular bearer, anda V-shaped groove or bearer on its lower end adapted to prevent lateral dis-- placement of the drawer, and also to prevent binding of the saine. It is also obvious that this bracket is reversible-that is to say, it can be turned end for end, and the bars B adapted for its different positions.
I ani aware that eircularly-concave rolls have been used before my invention to preventlateral displacement or binding of a drawer in drawing it out or pushing it in. I broadly disclaim such devices.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
l. A bracket for drawers, provided with angular extensions, a flat bearing, and a V -shaped bearing adapted for applioationto the rear or IOO innel end of a drawer and for rails B, substantially as described.
2. The combination, with a drawer-bracket, ofa cylindrical roller and a concave roller, 5 substantially as described.
3. A bracket adapted for the rear end of a drawer, having,` right angular extensions and recesses at the angles thereof, in combination with anti-friction rollers applied in said rero cesses, substantially as described.
4. A drawer-bracket consisting of avertical perforated portion, a right angular perforated portion, a recess in the angle, and an anti-frictional roller therein, as specified.
In testimony whereof I afiX my signature 15 in presence of two witnesses.
WEISEL BEALE.
