SIDNEY BLENKHORN, OF GANNING, NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA.
OVERSHOE-LIFT.
SPECIFICATION L'orming part of Letters Patent No. 339,258, dated April 6, 1886.
Application filed September '7, i885. Serial No. 176,334. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, SIDNEY BLENKHORN, of Canning, in the Province of Nova Scotia, in the Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Overshoe-Lifts; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
The object of my invention isloreadilypull on a rubber overshoe without touching it with the hand.
My invention consists of an implement con sisting of two plates together forming a handle, having coinciding curved jaws to grip the edge of the shoe at the heel and Spring apart, acatch to hold the jaws closed, and a roller which acts as a fulcrum when the lift is being used as a lever to elongate the overshoe at the heel, to run up the back of the boot while the overshoe is being puton by pulling thehandle.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved lift. Fig. 2 isa sectional elevation of the same as when in practical use.
A A are two concaved strips, which coinbinedly make a straight handle, to be grasped by the operator in using theimplement. The
strips are joined together at one end, so as to spring apart at the opposite ends, which are formed with jaws B B, coincidingly curved to receive intermediately the upper edge of the back of the overshoe, and by closing the two parts of the handle, by squeezing them together, cause the jaws to grip the overshoe and be held by a spring-catch, O. The inner jaw, B, is provided with checks D, in which V one end and coinciding curved jaws B B at the opposite end, to grip the back of the overshoe, spring-catch O, to hold the jaws closed, and roller E, to travel up the back of the boot when the overshoeis being pulled on, as set forth.
SIDNEY BLENKHORN.
