CORN-HUSKING DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 337,141, dated March 2, 1886. Application filed August 24, 1885. Serial No. 175,229. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NOAH EVINGER, a citizen of theUnited States, and aresident of Terre Haute, in the State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oorn- Husking Devices; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact descript-i011 of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective View of my improved corn-husking device. Fig. 2 is a'view of the husking pin or strip attached to a mitten; and Fig. 3 is an edge view of the pin or strip, showing the position of the fingers in dotted lines.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
My invention has relation to husking devices, and it contemplates certain improvements upon the device for which Letters Patent No.100,740 were granted to me on the 15th day of March, 1870; and it consists to that end in, the improved construction and combination of parts of the same, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, the'letter A indicates a flat strip of metal, having one end, B, pointed, and having the other end bent and curved to form a book, 0, having its fiat sides parallel, and having its inner arm at a right angle to the remainder of the strip. The strip forms a fiat straight handle, D, above the hook, and at the upper end of the handle the strip has a slight curve or bend, E, above which is another larger curve or bend, F, which is extended into the pointed end B.
G is a broad leather strap, which is provided with a perforation or eye, H, atits upper end, which fits upon the strip, resting at the lower curve, E, of the strip, and the lower end of the strap is formed with a number of perforations, I, which may be engaged by the hook at the lower end of the strip. When the strip or pin is used with a mitten, as shown inFig. 2, the hook is engaged at one edge of the palm of the mitten, the pin passes upon the inner side of the same and penetrates the mitten at the curve E, inside of the place in the mitten for the first finger of the hand, and the remainder of the strip projects free. The fourth finger of the handwill rest against the inner arm of the hook at the lower end of the pin, the three fingers, from the second to the fourth finger, will be retained by the strap, and the first finger will rest in the curve F, the eyed end of the strap separating that finger from the second finger, and the straight handle of the pin will rest against the inner sides of the fingers, while the strap will bear against their outer sides, and the upper eye of the strap will be protected by resting in the curve E of the pin.
By having a number of perforations at the lower end of the strap the device may be adjusted to hands of different sizes, and the entire implement will be simple and inexpensive, and can be easily made and easily used.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States In a corn-husking device, the combination of a husking pin or strip having a hook with its fiat sides parallel and curved at a right angle to the remainder of the pin, a straight handle with a slight curve and a greater curve near its upper end, and with its upper end pointed, wit-h a strap of leather provided with a perforation or eye at its upper end fitting at the lower slight curve in the handle, and having a series of perforations at its lower end fitting upon the hooked lower end of the strip, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereunto afiixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
NOAH EVINGER.
