Description

1967 s. KOSINSKI ILLUMINATED CRADLE HOLDER FOR TELEPHONES Filed Jan. 17, 1966 FIG.
INVENTOR. F l G, 3 STEVE KOSl/VSK/ United States Patent O 3,358,132 ILLUMINATED CRADLE HOLDER FOR j' TELEPHONES Steve Kosinski, 3036 Bouck Ave., Bronx, N.Y. 10469 Filed Jan. 17, 1966, Ser. No. 521,151 Claims. (Cl. 240--2.17)
My invention is directed toward an illuminated cradle holder forthe cradle of a telephone.
It is an object of my invention to provide a new and improved cradle holder of the character indicated which contains a lamp for illuminating both holder and telephone.
Another object is to provide a new and improved cradle holder of the character indicated which is composed of light transmissive material.
Still another object is to provide a new and improved cradle holder of the character indicated having means to illuminate the dial panel of the cradle of the telephone in the holder.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of my invention will now be explained with reference both to this specification and to the accompanying drawings wherein:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of my invention in use;
FIG. 2 is a perspective view of my invention per se;
FIG. 3 is a top partially cut away view of my invention in use; and
FIG. 4 is a cross sectional view through 44 of FIG. 3.
Referring now to FIGS. 1-4, there is shown a telephone having a handset adapted to be removably held on the top surface of cradle 12 and connected thereto by cord 14. The top surface of cradle 12 carries a dial panel 16.
A holder composed entirely of pebble texture clear plexiglass and identified generally at 20 includes a hollow oval body having a side wall 22 and open top and bottom ends. The periphery 24 of the open top end is generally at the same vertical level but has a front depressed region 26 for ease of dialing and a rear portion which rises and forms an extension 28 which overlies a portion of the periphery of the dial panel. Below extension 28 on the inner surface of side wall 22 is a vertical recess 30, opposite vertical edges 34 of which support brackets 32 interconnected by a horizontal plate 36 upon which rests a lamp socket 38 having wires 40 extending downward through a hole in plate 36 and adapted for connection to a suitable electric source. A lamp bulb 42 is removably secured in socket 38, both bulb and socket being interposed between side wall and cradle when the cradle is inserted in the holder.
The peripheral edge 44 of the bottom end of the holder supports a plurality of spaced apart nibs 48 extending "ice horizontally inward therefrom to support the bottom of the cradle. Periphery 24 extends above the level of the top surface of the cradle. Side wall 22 has a notch or slot 46 extending upward from periphery 44 and accommodating cord 14.
When the cradle is inserted in the holder, and bulb 42 is energized, the light thereof is conducted through the entire side wall which then is illuminated. Further this light is conducted by extension 28 to illuminate the dial panel for ease of dialing or using the telephone in the dark. The relatively high periphery 24 assists in proper seating of the handset in the cradle whereby the handset and cradle are both protected against accidental dislodgement.
While I have described my invention with particular reference to the drawings, my protection is to be limited only by the terms of the claims which follow.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. An illuminable cradle holder for a telephone having a cradle and a handset receivable by said cradle, said holder comprising a hollow oval body having a side wall and open top and bottom ends, said wall surrounding said cradle and being composed of a light transmitting plastic, an extension of said plastic extending over a portion of the top of the cradle and secured to a portion of the periphery of the top end of the wall, a lamp socket secured to the inner surface of the wall and disposed adjacent said cradle, and a lamp bulb removably inserted in said socket.
2. A holder as set forth in claim 1 wherein the top surface of said cradle supports a dial panel, said extension overlying a portion of the periphery of said panel.
3. A holder as set forth in claim 2 wherein said side wall on the inner surface thereof has a vertical recess, said socket .being mounted in said recess.
4. A holder as set forth in claim 3 further including a plurality of horizontal nibs secured to the periphery of the bottom end of the holder and extending inwardly of the wall, said nibs resting under and supporting the bottom of the cradle.
5. A holder as set forth in claim 4 wherein the periphery of the top end of the holder extends above the top of the cradle.
