SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 334,195, dated January 12, 1886.

Be it known that I, \VILLIAM ROEMER, a citizen of the United States, residing at N ewark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Handle-Fasteners for Travcling-Bags; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descrip tion of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

The object of this invention is to gain increased strength in attaching the handle of a bag to the frame thereof, and to secure an attachment of increased utility.

The invention consists in the arrangements and combinations of parts, substantially as will be hereinafter set forth, and finally embodied in the clause of the claim.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, in which like letters indicate corresponding parts in each of the several figures, Figure l is a side elevation showing one end of the bag-handle and a portion of a bagframe joined together by myimproved connecting portions. Fig. 2 is a plan of a blank from which to form an end piece for the handle. Fig. 3 is a blank from which may be formed a loop, staple, ear, or connective for the frame of peculiar construction adapted to receive or provide bearings for the handle or the end piece thereof. Fig. 4 is a bottom plan showing the end piece alter a certain tubular portion is formed, but before a bracing thereof is bent into proper shape. Fig. 7 is aside elevation of the completed end piece in detail. Fig. 5 is a side elevation, and Fig. 6 is an end elevation,-of the completed loop or ear for the handle; and Fig. Sis a side elevation, and Fig. 9 an end view, of acap to cover extremity of the end piece and hold the latter to the said ear or loop.

In said drawings, a is the frame of the bag or satchel, and b is a handle attached thereto. 0 is the loop, clip, or car; (Z, the end piece working therein, and f is the cap which covers the extremity of the said end piece and serves to hold said end piece in place.

The construction of the end piece and cap and their relation to the handle and to one another are very similar to those shown and described in drawings and the specification of another case filed at the United States Patent Office, together with this, Serial No. 168,666, dated June 15, 1885,and the claims relating especially to said parts are included in the other said case. This case, therefore, relates more especially to the peculiar ear, loop, or connective and its relation to the other parts. Said loop is preferably formed from sheet metal, the blank beingfirst struck out, as in Fig. 3, with a plurality of eyes 9 g, which lie a little apart, the blank being narrowed, as at h, between them. At the opposite ends the blank is provided with perforated flangesi tat its narrowed part, forming vertical arms having eyes 9 g, which lie in or approximately in line, as shown in Figs. 5 and 6. the narrowed part forming, when the several parts are together, a loop, to which a shoulder-strap may be secured. The eyes form double bearings for the cylindrical or tubular portion of the end piece, giving increased firmness to the handle, the pivotal movement thereof beingv made more steady or positive. Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new is The clip or ear 0, having two vertical arms connected at the top by the narrower part h, having the eyes g g in line with each other, and at its free ends means, substantially as described, by which said clip or car is adapted to be secured to the satchel or bag frame, as set forth.
