Description
(No Model.)
S. WRIGHT.
DEVICE FOR MOLDING BEIGK. No. 338,710.
Patented JaJn. 5, 1886.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SILAS WRIGHT, OF WASHINGTON, MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NEW JERSEY.
DEVICE FOR MOLDING BRICK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 333,710, dated January 5, 1886.
Application filed June 30, 1885.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SILAs WRIGHT, of the village of Washington, in the township of East Brunswick, county of Middlesex, State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Machine for the Manufacture of Brick from Clay and Brick-Earth; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my machine. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of the molding box or frame, and Fig. 3 is a crosssectional view of the machine.
No. 1 is a frame upon which the pallets No. 3 are placed; The frame No. 2 is then turned upon the hinges and placed fiat upon No. l. The box No. 4 is then placed upon the pallets Nos. 3 within the frame No. 2. The prepared clay is then placed in the box No. 4, which is struck smooth across the top with the straight-edge No. 5. The box No. 4 is then raised vertically, leaving the clay upon the pallets Nos. 3. The frame No. 2 is then raised, the wires on a cutting the clay in the form of brick, and leaving them upon the pallets Nos. 3, ready for removal to the dryingroom. The screws b b are used for regulating the tension of the wires (1 a.
The bascframe 1 is formed with a front cross-bar, 6, an intermediate bar, 7, parallel with its sides, and the flanges 8, projecting inwardly from the sides of said frame. These parts 6, 7, and 8 have their upper sides arranged below the planes of the upper surfaces of the sides of frame 1, so the pallets will be supported with their top surfaces flush with that of the base-frame, as shown most clearly in Figs. 1 and 3.
It will be understood that my machine may be so adjusted as to make keystone brick or beveled brick of any size, also brick provided with molding of suitable design.
Serial No. 170,292. (No model.)
I claim-- 1. A brick machine substantially as described, comprising a base-frame, a frame normally movable with reference to said baseframe, and a number of cutters connected with said movable frame, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with the base-frame, of the cutter-frame hinged at one end thereto and cutters connected with said hinged frame, substantially as set forth.
3. In a brick-machine, the combination of the base, the cutter-frame movable with reference to said base and provided with cutters, and the mold-box fitted into said, frame, substantially as set forth.
4. The combination of the base-frame, the frame hinged at one edge to and movable toward and from the base-frame, cutters secured to the lower side of the hinged frame, and a molding-box fitted into said hinged frame, substantially as set forth.
5. In a brick-molding machine, the combination of the base-frame having pallet supports 6, 7, and 8, formed with their upper surfaces below that of the main portion of the said frame, pallets rested on said supports, and a cutter-frame, substantially as set forth.
6. The brick-machine herein described, consisting of the base-frame 1, having depressed pallet supports 6, 7, and 8, the pallets 3, rested on said supports, with their upper surfaces flush with that of the body of the baseframe, the frame 2, hinged at one end to the base, the cutting-wires connected with the frame, the screws connecting one end of said wires, whereby their tensions may be adjusted, and the molding-box, substantially as set forth.
SILAS WRIGHT.
Witnesses:
EDWIN F. BRITTON, SILAS D. GRIMSTEAD.
