Description
July 4, 1967 J. ALLEGRO 3,328,806
FACE AND NECK PROTECTOR Filed April 9, 1965 INVENTOR; c/oszpw/z z #zmaao United States Patent 3,328,806 FACE AND NECK PROTECTOR 4 Josephine Allegro, E. 4th St., Greensburg, Pa. 15602 Filed Apr. 9, 1965, Ser. No. 446,902 3 Claims. (Cl. 2-9) The present invention relates to a face and neck protector having a mask or shield portion as well as a mounting portion, and in which one shield may be adjustably positioned with respect to another shield mounted by a common holding means, and more particularly the invention relates to a combination of a handle structure which is fixedly secured to one of the shields and which facilitates adjustment for the secondary shield and in connection with the primary shield in order that the same may be readily adjusted for use in protecting the face as well as other portions of the head, neck and ears during the time the protected parts are not susceptible to being sprayed while the entire coiffure is cycled with hair spray.
More particularly the object of the invention is to provide a face and neck protector combination so that regardless of the manner in which the coiifure is prepared, that is the style thereof, the face and neck may be pro tected while the coitfure is being sprayed.
A further object of the present invention is to provide means adjustable for positioning about the face, the rear portion of the neck, and about the ears, so that as the coiffure is sprayed, means are provided by the present invention so that the user is protected from the spray and allergic effects that may result therefrom.
Another object of the present invention is to protect the entire face and neck, including the ears, when applying a hair spray. By using one of the shields, the front of the face is protected including the eyes, ears, nose and mouth, so that the user is protected if allergic to the spray, and make-up or other material on the face is not affected.
A further object of the present invention is to protect the eyes from hair spray, and the shield may be tilted somewhat about the ears so that the ears may similarly be protected.
A further object of the invention is to include in the combination structure a neck protection means that may be positioned rearwardly of the user so that the back of the neck including jewelry and other apparel may be protected by proper manipulation of the shield of the present invention.
In the operation of the combination shield of the invention, the operator holds the protector in one hand so that the working part of the protector covers the face and ears. After spraying the front hair, the operator advances the rivet or button that is adjustably provided on the mounting handle so that the button is raised up and the secondary protector is then in position about the back of the neck and ears for thus completely protecting the neck and ears.
The above and other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent upon full consideration of the following detailed description and accompanying drawings in which:
FIGURE 1 is a plan view of the improved face and neck protector of the present invention;
FIGURE 2 is an elevational view of the improved face and neck protector of FIGURE 1; and
FIGURE 3 is a cross-sectional view of the improved face and neck protector taken along a center axis thereof,
and showing the manner in which it is applied to being used in accordance with the preferred embodiment of the invention.
Referring now to the drawings, there is shown an improved face and neck protector 10 for use by positioning over a persons face 12, as shown in FIGURE 3, and which comprises a primary or outer shield 14 for disposing over the forehead and face and consisting of a sheet of resilient plastic material which is convexly contoured to contact the face about the forehead and having extensions that follow along the hairline and are adapted to proceed below the hairline to and about the ears, as generally shown in FIGURE 3. The ear shield portions 16, 18 are shown in FIGURES 1 and 2, but there is disposed inwardly of the forehead and face protector 14, an ancillary secondary neck protector 20 which consists of a sheet of said material and is generally concavely contoured at the top for contacting and engaging the peripheral portions about the hairline about the rear portion of the neck for protection thereof, and also has extensions that are adapted to proceed about the ears, such as portions 22, 24
The mounting portion for the shield 14 extends centrally and below the protector into a narrow mounting portion 30 which extends within a hollow cylindrical tube 32, shown in FIGURE 2, and which retains the mounting portion 30 by an adhesive or other securing means. While these engaging portions 30, 32 are of plastic, they may be heat-sealed or heat-welded together as is commonly done in the plastic forming and treating arts.
The inner or ancillary neck protector 20 similarly is constructed to contain a mounting portion 40 at the central and lower portions thereof, and it terminates within the hollow cylinder 32 within a lower portion thereof at a rivet or indicator or button means 44 which extends or slides along the length of a slot 46 of the hollow cylinder 32. By desirably adjusting the position of the button 44 along the slot 46, it is possible to withdraw the neck protector 20 as shield 14 is used about the forehead, and then the protector shield 20 may be adjusted outwardly and used about the back of the neck.
Additional embodiments in this specification will occur to others and therefore it is intended that the scope of the invention be limited only by the appended claims and not by the embodiment described hereinabove. Accordingly, reference should be made to the following claims in determining the full scope of the invention.
What is claimed is:
1. A face and neck protector constructed of a generally resilient plastic material, or the like, comprising a forehead and face protector consisting of a sheet of said material generally convexly contoured to contact the face about the forehead and having extensions that are adapted to proceed below the hairline to and about the ears, a mounting portion extending centrally and below the protector and having an otherwise generally narrow dimension, a hollow cylindrical tube of said material having a slot along a portion thereof and retaining the mounting portion of said face and forehead protector, and a neck protector consisting of a sheet of said material and generally concavely contoured to contact the back of the neck and having extensions that are adapted toproceed about the ears, said convexly contoured portion adapted to receive portions of the face, said neck protector also having a mounting portion extending centrally and below the protector and having also an otherwise generally narrow dimension, and a button adapted to be disposed at a point of the mounting portion of the neck protector, said button being adapted to slide along the length of said slot for moving said neck protector into operative position.
2. The invention according to claim 1 wherein the face and neck protector are constructed of resilient, transparent plastic material.
'3. A face and neck protector constructed of a generally resilient plastic material, or the like, comprising a gen- 10 erally convexly contoured forehead and face protector adapted to extend along the hairline, a mounting Portion extending below said protector and being secured to a hollow cylindrical tube, said hollow cylindrical tube also having a longitudinal slot on an inner wall thereof along 15 the length thereof, and a neck protector having a generally concavely contoured upper portion for being disposed to proceed about the back of the neck and ears for protec- 5 tive position.
