(Cl. 206-56) I am fully aware that screw packaging is old in the art, with such packaging being of a container type with the same having removable covers or lids. This type of container has certain disadvantages such as accidental removal of the cover or lid and permitting the contents thereof to become spilled. Also, screws or the like, especially screws of the smaller sizes are difficult to hold while being started in the work.

The principal object of the present invention is to provide a suitable packaging device capable of holding a nominal number of screws.

A second object is the provision of a packaging device in which screws will not ordinarily become accidentally disengaged.

A third object is the provision of a packaging and dispensing device providing a means of holding a screw in position for starting by means of a tool such as a screw driver.

A fourth object is the provision of a packaging and dispensing device in which there is a provision for hanging the same on a peg or a nail.

Another object is the provision of a packaging device which is novel and which is economical to manufacture.

Further objects and advantages of the invention will become more apparent in the course of the following description, and that which is new will be pointed out in the appended claims.

The presently-preferred manner of accomplishing the above objects is shown in the accompanying drawing forming a part hereof, in which:

FIGURE 1 is a top plan view of the device, and with the same having a plurality of screws contained therein.

FIGURE 2 is an edge view of the device, taken from line 2-2 of FIGURE 1.

FIGURE 3 is an edge view similar to that shown in FIGURE 2, but with the end portions being shown as up- Wardly or forwardly turned.

FIGURE 4 is a further edge view showing one of the contained screws in position for driving, and showing a screw driver in connection therewith.

FIGURE 5 is an enlarged cross section through the device, as taken on line 5-5 of FIGURE 1.

Like characters of reference designate like parts throughout the several views of the drawing.

In order that the construction and the use of the invention may be more fully understood and appreciated, I will now take up a detailed description thereof.

Referring now to the drawing in detail, numerals 11 designate the body of the device, with the same being preferably substantially rectangular in shape and having an aperture 12 formed through one end portion thereof. A tongue 13 is formed longitudinally of the material of the body with the end thereof adjacent the aperture 12 remaining uncut but with the opposite end of the tongue being completely severed. The tongue is formed by punching or cutting through the thickness of the body except at the end adjacent the aperture 12. Cutting of the tongue provides an elongated channel 14 in the body member and with the channel 14 providing for the reception of a plurality of screws 15, as shown in FIGURES 1, 2 and 3. After the screws 15 are inserted in the channel 14, as indicated in FIGURES 1 and 2, the tongue is brought into contact with the heads of the screws, after which the loose end of the tongue 13 is secured in place by means of a securing member 16 such as a rubber band Which may be easily removed while screws are being dispensed from the channel and again replaced after the desired number of screws 15 have been .removed from the channel 14.

A pair of spaced-apart semi-rigid bendable wires 17 and 18 are embedded in the body 11 and extend the full length thereof with one of the wires being located at each side of the tongue 13 and channel.

In the use of the device, the securing member 16 is removed. The end portions of the body 11 are bent in the same direction, as shown in FIGURE 3. With the tongue 13 being loose at one end, the same permits the screws, one by one, to be brought to the end of channel 14 and in the position shown in FIGURE 4. This position of the endmost screw places the screw into a position engageable by a screw driver 19', with the screw driver being inserted through the aperture 12 and engaged with the slotted screw head, as shown in FIGURE 4. When the screw being driven is turned sufiiciently to become fast into the work, the screw driver is withdrawn from the position shown in FIGURE 4, after which the member 11 can be withdrawn from the partly driven screw, after which the screw can be turned tightly into place in the work.

The semi-rigid bendable wires 17 and 18 provide means for maintaining the end portions of the body 11 for driving the screws.

The device provides a means of holding small screws for starting in work. The small screws are difficult to hold with fingers especially in places having narrow entries.

It will be noted, by referring to FIGURE 4, the tongue 13 lies between the heads of screws 15 and the shaft of the screw driver 19, thus preventing accidental dislodgement of the remaining screws from the channel 14.

It is to be further brought out that, after the desired number of screws are used from the device, the turned end portions of the body 11 can be brought back to the position shown in FIGURE 1 and the band 16 replaced to hold the free end of the tongue 13, and with the tongue lying against the heads of screws 15 and preventing the accidental removal thereof from the channel 14.

Aperture 12 further serves to provide a means for hanging the device on a nail or peg for storage.

Although the invention has been shown and described in its presently-preferred form, I desire that it be understood that minor changes may be made therein, insofar as the changes may fall within the scope of the appended claims in their broadest form.

Having now shown and described the invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:

1. A packaging device comprising a body member, a tongue formed of a portion of the body with one end thereof being loose, with the portion remaining after forming of the tongue from the body providing a channel for the reception of screws, with the tongue lying against the heads of the screws and preventing accidental dislodgement of the screws from the channel, and with a removable means traversing the loose end of the tongue.

In a packaging, vending and dispensing device, a body member of rectangular form, a tongue, a channel formed in the body by the forming of the tongue, said tongue being integral with the body at one end and free at the opposite end, a pair of spaced-apart semi-rigid bendable wires embedded in the body and extending the full length thereof with one of the wires being located at either side of the channel and substantially parallel therewith, with said channel providing for the reception of a plurality of screws, and with removable means securing body, a channel formed through said body, a tongue formed of the material removed in forming the channel with one end of the tongue being integral with the body, a pair of spaced-apart semi-rigid wires extending through the body and positioned parallel to the channel with one wire being located on each side of the channel, With the end portions of the body being bendable with one end of the channel providing an outlet means for screws located in the channel, and with an aperture being formed in the second end of the body for the reception of a screw driver.

In a packaging and dispensing device for screws, a body member, a channel formed through the body member with the material removed in forming the channel providing a tongue secured at one end and free at the opposite end, with the channel providing for the reception of a plurality of screws extending through the body, and with the tongue overlying the screw heads and being secured thereagainst by means of a removable band extending about the body and over the free end of the tongue.

Claims (1)

1. A PACKAGING DEVICE COMPRISING A BODY MEMBER, A TONGUE FORMED OF A PORTION OF THE BODY WITH ONE END THEREOF BEING LOOSE, WITH THE PORTION REMAINING AFTER FORMING OF THE TONGUE FROM THE BODY PROVIDING A CHANNEL FOR THE RECEPTION OF SCREWS, WITH THE TONGUE LYING AGAINST THE HEADS OF THE SCREWS AND PREVENTING ACCIDENTAL DISLODGEMENT OF THE SCREWS FROM THE CHANNEL, AND WITH A REMOVABLE MEANS TRAVERSING THE LOOSE END OF THE TONGUE.
