F. C. ROBINSON.
SHUTTBR PASTENER. No. 330,741. lPatented Nov. 17, 1885.
i gyz I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRED. O. ROBINSON, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SHUTTER-FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 330,741, dated November 17, 1885.
Application filed September 25, 1885. Serial No. 178,137. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern/.r
Be it known that I, FRED. C. ROBINSON, of the city and county of New York, in the State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Shutter Pull and Catch, of which the following is a specification.
Blinds and shutters, as ordinarily used, are provided at the bottom with spring hooks or catches, which are adapted to enga-ge each with a pin or stud fixed in the window-frame, for securing the blinds closed. These devices are not usuatly of such construction that they may be grasped and used as handles in swinging the blinds closed, and consequently it is usual for persons desiring to close the blinds to grasp and pull uponthe slats, and the tenons, therefore, are thus frequently broken off and the blinds otherwise injured and impaired.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive device which may be secured to the blind, and will serve both as a pull or handle in closing the blind and as. a catch or lock for retaining it closed.
rlhe invention consists, essentially, in the combination, with a ring or loop, of a strap or keeper for securing the ring or loop to a blind, arranged transversely to and embracing one side of the ring or loop, and a catch or hook adapted to be secured to the window-frame, and with which the portion of the ring o r loop diametrically opposite the Strap or keeper may be engaged when the blind is closed, and by which the blind may be securely locked against any attempts to open it from the outside.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of a pair of blinds having my improved pull and catch secured to them. Fig. 2 is afront elevation of a'portion of a blindstile, showing my improved device upon a much larger scale; and Fig. 3'is a sectional elevation upon the plane of the dotted line x Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in all the gures.
A A designate the two portions of a blind, which are hinged to a frame, B, in the usual manner, and a a designate the meeting-Stiles of the blinds, the latter stile, co, being adapted to close outside the former, a, so that a securing device applied to the blind A will hold them both closed. c
My improved pull or lock consists, essentially, of a ring or loop, O, a keeper or strap, D, whereby the ring or loop may be secured will be held against turning circumferentially.
The loop or keeper D may be secured by screws d to the blind-stile a', and by similar screws, e, the hook or catch Emay be secured to the bottom portion of the frame B.
By the keeper or strap D the ring O is nexibly connected with the blind, so that it may be readily swung up into the position shown by dotted lines in Fig. 3, to serve as a handle in swinging the blinds to, and it then forms a much more convenient hold for the hand than is obtained by grasping theslats of the blind, as is usually done. After the blind is swung to, the ring C is turned down into engagement with the hook or catch E, and then forms a secure lock or catch to hold the blind closed, and as it is entirely upon the inner side of the blind any attempts to unfasten the blind from the outside or to shake orV swing the loop O out of engagement with the catch or hook E will be futile. If desired, a similar device may be applied to each half AA of the blind; but inasmuch as the blind A overlaps the blind A on the outside a single device secured to the blind A will answer the purpose.
The several parts of the device may be cheaply made of cast metal and applied to any ordinary blind already in use, Without cutting the blind or the Window-frame.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is;
The blind pull and catch herein described,` consisting in the combination of a ring or loop, C, a keeper or strap, D, for attaching the ring or loop to a blind, arranged transversely to and embracing one side of the ring or loop, and a hook or catch, E, to be secured to the windowframe, and with which the portion of the ring or loop diametrically opposite the keeper or strap may be` engaged, substantially as herein described.
