Description

1966 F. v. PULIAF'ICO SELF-POSITIONING BRASSIERE Filed Feb. 12. 1965 IN VENTOR.
A TTOR/VE Y United States Patent York Filed Feb. 12, 1965, Ser. No. 432,343 2 Claims. (Cl. 128483) The object of the present invention is to provide a self-positioning brassiere, having the customary back bands leading from the outer sides of the cups and provided with means for connection, together with a special combination of elements for providing a controlled pull from the shoulder straps to the .apex of each cup, rather than from both outer ends. In said combination, each cup at its lower margin is bordered by a ribbon or tape, curved upwardly towards an inner bordering ribbon or tape carried by the opposite cup, and which is looped around a triangular shoulder strap connecting member. The shoulder strap passes through the triangle and engages the horizontal bar thereof, whilst the ribbon or tape engages an inclined bar of the triangle, the inclination extending transversely of the desired pull of the shoulder straps upwardly. The pull of each shoulder strap is upwardly from both the inner margin of a cup and thence along the lower margin of the opposite cup, and also from the apex of each cup along its top outer margin and to the top of the adjacent back band.
The invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view looking toward the front of the brassiere, the shoulder straps being broken away;
FIGURE 2 is an enlarged section taken longitudinally on the line 22 of FIG. 1;
FIGURE 3 is a view in elevation of the rectangular connecting element employed at the center of the brassiere between the cups;
FIGURE 4 is a view in elevation of the triangular connecting element for the shoulder strap and the ribbons or tapes carried at the upper margins of a cup.
Referring to the drawing, it will be seen that the cups indicated at 1, are connected to the back bands 2 as customary, these back bands carrying any suitable connecting elements, preferably longitudinally elastic, as indicated at 3. In the drawing the shoulder straps are indicated at 4.
Among the lower margin of each cup there is sea-med thereto a ribbon or a tape 5, which is inclined upwardly and which is looped around one bar of a rectangular connecting element 6, and then stitched in position upon itself. The said bar of the connecting element 6 lies transversely of the tape or ribbon 5. Tape or ribbon is in line with a corresponding tape or ribbon 7 seamed to the inner margin of the opposite cup. For each cup tape or ribbon 7 is looped through a triangular connecting member 9 which likewise receives a tape or ribbon 8 seamed to the upper and outer margin of the cup. In each case, the receiving bar of the triangular member 9 lies transversely of the tape or ribbon which it receives.
The triangular connecting member 9 is positioned with one of its bars in normal horizontal position. That bar receives the loop of one shoulder strap. The vertical pull of that shoulder strap thus is translated angularly to and longitudinally of the tapes or ribbons 7 and 8 of the cup.
'ice
The back bands have a definite pull from the under arm, and the centering front connecting member 6, which pull, of course forms a resistance to the pull of the shoulder strap on the apieces of the cups. Thus when the shoulder straps are pulled taut, the triangle connecting members will fall to the most comfortable position on the body, their being a pull from the apex of each cup upwardly rather than from both ends. Round rings and standard shoulder strap buckles have been tried out in place of the triangular connecting member 7, and without the desired result.
It will be understood that various modifications may be made in the form and arrangement of the elements constituting the embodiment illustrated in the drawing, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is as follows:
1. In a brassiere and in combination, a pair of cups and back bands for the same, connecting means for the back bands, reinforcing tape-like members seamed to the lower and upper-inner margins of the cups and forming an X-shaped configuration bounding said cup margins, a tape like member seamed to the upper and outer margin of each cup, a shoulder strap for each cup, and a triangular connecting member for each cup, said connecting member being positioned with its normally horizontal bar receiving a shoulder strap, and with two reversely inclined bars, one of said inclined bars having loop connection with the tape-like member at the upper-inner margin of said cup, and one of said inclined bars having loop connection with the tape-like member at the upper and outer margin of the cup.
2. In a brassiere and in combination, a pair of cups and back bands for the same, connecting means for the back bands, reinforcing tape-like members seamed to the lower and upper-inner margins of the cups and forming an X-shaped configuration bounding said cup margins, a first connecting member for said tapes positioned intermediate the cups and substantially above the base line thereof, a tape like member seamed to the upper and outer margin of each cup, a shoulder strap for each cup, and a triangular connecting member for each cup, said triangular connecting member being positioned with its normally horizontal bar receiving a shoulder strap, and with two reversely inclined bars, one of said inclined bars having loop connection with the tape-like member at the upper-inner margin of said cup, and one of said inclined bars having loop connection with the tape-like member at the upper and outer margin of the cup, said first connecting member receiving the tape like members which are seamed to the lower and upper inner margins of the cups and holding them in an aperture extending transversely of the longitudinal line of each tape like member.
