(Cl. 40126) This invention deals with merchandise displays utilizing a standard type of perpendicular sales card supporting frame as a means for supporting and displacing merchandise detacha bly coupled with a mounting element supported in the frame to expose the merchandise upon one surface of said element and the frame. More particularly, the invention deals with a structure of the character described, wherein said element includes at the upper portion thereof a downwardly extending dis play panel.

Still more particularly, the invention deals with a structure of the character described, wherein the merchandise for display is an article of apparel arranged upon a plastic molded form, with which is attached the means for detachably coupling the merchandise with said element.

The novel features of the invention will be best understood from the following description, when taken together wtih the accompanying drawing, in which certain embodiments of the invention are disclosed and, in which, the separate parts are designated by suitable ref erence characters in each of the views and, in which:

FIG. 1 is a rear view of a display made according to my invention, omitting part of the one side thereof and the base support for the frame of the device and also omitting the garment arranged on the molded form.

FIG. 2 is a substantially central vertical section of the structure shown in FIG. 1, again omitting the garment and with part of the background showing broken away; and

FIG. 3 is a rear view on a reduced scale of the display detached and diagrammatically indicating arrangement of the rear portion of a brassiere arranged upon the form and with parts of the construction broken away.

In illustrating one adaptation and use of my invention, I have shown the same applied to the display of a brassiere in connection with a standard type of sales ticket supporting frame, commonly used in providing upright or perpendicular displays of the ticket and commonly used upon the rear portion of a counter.

Considering FIGS. 1 and 2 of the drawing, represents an oblong rectangular frame of the type and kind described. The frame is U-shaped in form in cross-section, as will be clearly apparent from the section through the bottom rail 11 of the frame, as seen in FIG. 2 of the drawing. The frame 10 also includes channel upright side rails 12, which are integrally joined by a crosshead 13, consisting of spaced side strips, which form an opening 14 in the upper edge of the crosshead 13, the opening extending to the full depth of the channels in the side members 12, as will be apparent from the width of a mounting element 15 or the extended upper portion 16 thereof. Considering FIG. 1, it will appear that the width of 16 is slightly less than the overall width defined by the side members 12 of the frame 10.

Foldable in connection with the upper end of the extension 16 is a wider downwardly extending display panel 17, as clearly noted in FIG. 2 of the drawing. The element 15 has, adjacent the upper portion of that part thereof disposed within the environment of the frame 10, a transverse aperture 18, the purpose of which will be later described. Fixed centrally to the lower member 11 of the frame 10 is a depending rod or post 19, the length of which will govern the height of the arrangement of the frame 10 above a support, upon which the lower end of 19 or the base of 19, not shown, is arranged. The bases of frames of the type and kind under consideration are well known in the art.

From the foregoing, it will be apparent that the element 15 is simply substituted for the usual display or sales ticket or card which is supported in the frame 10 and it is preferred that the element 15 will be made of relatively thick cardboard or other suitable material.

In the present illustration, the display 20 for detachable coupling with the element 15 comprises a molded plastic form characterizing the upper front portion of the body of a woman, including a short portion of the neck. The form comprises a bottom wall 22, a central front wall 23, at opposed sides of which are outwardly protruding bust portions 24, part of one of which is indicated in FIG. 2 and portions of both of which are illustrated in FIG. 3. The display form Ztl also includes a top wall and, as indicated in FIG. 3 of the drawing, the form includes side wall 26, which include the shoulder walls 27 extending into and joining the top wall 25, which constitutes part of the neck portion of the form.

22, 25, 26 and 27 are in common alinement and secured to said surfaces is a back wall 28, preferably of cardboard or other material secured to the display form 20 by suitable fasteners 23, as indicated in FIG. 3 of the drawing and shown, in part, in FIG. 2

The upper portion of the back wall 28 is cutout and fashioned to form a coupling tongue 30 adapted to be passed through the aperture 18, the tongue joining the Wall 28 in a shoulder portion 31, which is adapted to seat upon the lower edge of the aperture 18, as clearly illus trated in FIG. 2 of the drawing. With this construction, the back wall 28 is supported in engagement with the bottom 11 and sides 12 of the frame, it being apparent from a consideration of FIGS. 1 and 2 that the upper wall 25 is disposed below the crosshead 13 of the frame 10. However, the panel 17 is of sufficient width to overlie the upper end of the display form 29, as clearly illustrated in FIG. 2 of the drawing.

In order to simplify the showing, the display form 20, including the back wall 28 only, is shown. in FIGS. 1 and 2. However, in FIG. 3 of the drawing, I have indicated, in part, at 32 a brassiere which is mounted on the form, the side and back bands of the brassiere being indicated at 33 in overlapped relationship to each other, as indicated at 34, where they are pinned, as diagrammatically seen at 35, to the back wall 28, the back straps of the brassiere being gathered beneath 33 and 34 in forming a finished assemblage, but no attempt is made to show these back straps. However, they are well known in the art of brassiere manufacture.

At 36 is shown part of the shoulder straps which extend over the shoulder portions 27 and usually to the bust engaging portions of the brassiere. From the foregoing, it will be apparent that, in viewing the display from the front, the garment, namely the brassiere, will be attractively displayed upon the front wall 23, including the bust portions 24 thereof.

From the foregoing, it will be understood that, whenever desired, a new style of brassiere can be arranged upon the molded form, it being apparent that the molded display form is fashioned to receive the garment or brassiere of a given size and bust style, It will further be understood that a display of this type and kind can be arranged directly above a counter, upon which garments, similar to the one arranged on the display, are placed.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A merchandise display device of the character defined comprising a stand, a rectangular supporting frame mounted on said stand and having rails generally of channel cross-sectional form, the upper portion of the frame having an opening, a mounting element passing through said opening and supported by said frame, said element having an aperture therein, a hollow merchandise display form having inwardly extending top, bottom and side walls including shoulder portions, said display form having a back wall fixed to said top, bottom and side walls including said shoulder portions, said back wall having an integral coupling tongue adapted for mounting in the aperture of said element to support the display form 011 said element, said back wall being also supported on the surface of said frame, said merchandise display form comprising a molded plastic body upon which merchandise is arranged, and said display form being of a contour conforming to and fitting snugly within at least part of an article of merchandise arranged thereon.

2. A device as defined in claim 1, wherein said element includes an upper integral extension projecting beyond the top of said frame, and said extension having an integral panel extending forwardly and downwardly and overlying the upper portion of said display form.

Claims

1. A MERCHANDISE DISPLAY DEVICE FOR THE CHARACTER DEFINED COMPRISING A STAND, A RECTANGULAR SUPPORTING FRAME MOUNTED ON SAID STRAND AND HAVING RAILS GENERALLY OF CHANNEL CROSS-SECTIONAL FORM, THE UPPER PORTION OF THE FRAME HAVING AN OPENING, A MOUNTING ELEMENT PASSING THROUGH SAID OPENING SAID SUPPORTED BY SAID FRAME, SAID ELEMENT HAVING AN APERTURE THEREIN, A HOLLOW MERCHANDISE DISPLAY FORM HAVING INWARDLY EXTENDING TOP, BOTTOM AND SIDE WALLS INCLUDING SHOULDER PORTIONS, SAID DISPLAY FORM HAVING A BACK WALL FIXED TO SAID TOP, BOTTOM AND SIDE WALLS INCLUDING SAID SHOULDER PORTIONS, SAID BACK WALL HAVING AN INTEGRAL COUPLING TONGUE ADAPTED FOR MOUNTING IN THE APERTURE OF SAID ELEMENT TO SUPPORT THE DISPLAY FROM ON SAID ELEMENT, SAID BACK WALL BEING ALSO SUPPORTED ON THE SURFACE OF SAID FRAME, SAID MERCHANDISE DISPLAY FORM COMPRISING A MOLDED PLASTIC BODY UPON WHICH MERCHANDISE IS ARRANGED, AND SAID DISPLAY FORM BEING OF A CONTOUR CONFORMING TO AND FITTING SNUGLY WITHIN AT LEAST PART OF AN ARTICLE TO MERCHANDISE ARRANGED THEREON.
