UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT E. WILLIAMS AND WILLIAM A. TRAMMELL, OF DALLAS, TEXAS; SAID TRAMMELL ASSIGNOR TO SAID WILLIAMS.
COMBINED FLOUR AND MEAL BIN AND FLOUR-SIFTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 328,444, dated October 13, 1885. Application llcd September 19, 1884. Serial 210.143,469. (.No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Beit known th at we, ROBERT E. WILLIAMS and WILLIAM A. TEAMMELL, of Dallas, in the county of Dallas and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Flour and Meal Bins and Flour-Sifters; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form apart of this specication, and in which- Figure lis a front view of our improved flour sifter and bin. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a side view with a portion broken away, and Fig. 4 is a vertical section on line x x, Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the ligures.
Our invention has relation to that class of flour-sifters in which the sifting mechanism is secured at the lower end of a bin or receptacle containing the lour or meal; and it consists in the improved construction and combination of parts of such a device in which the bin is divided in two receptacles opening into the sifting mechanism, and having suitable cut-of1c slides, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A indicates the bin, which is divided longitudinally by a partition, B, and which is formed at its upper end with a laterallyprojecting flange, C, and at its lower end with a contracted neck, D, having a laterally-projecting flange, E, a distance from its end.
l This contracted neck has a laterally-projecting pin or lug,F,immediately under the flange, and a perforated spring-catch, G, secured to the upper edge of the sifter H, which is of the usual construction, and for which we make no claim, engages the said lug, securing the sifter to the neck, the said sifter fitting upon the neck. The sides of the bin contract toward the ange around the neck, the said flange being at the base of the neck, and two slides, I I, or cut-off valves slide in ways .I in the neck, passing through slots Kin the sides of the neck and resting upon the liange of the neck.
A sliding cover, L, having downwardly and ceptacles tobe opened for lling it, or for any other purpose, while the other receptacle remains closed.
Two loops, N N, -are secured upon the sides of the bin at the lower ends of the straight sides of the bin,and serve for the insertion of two legs, O O, by means of which the device may be supported standing, a third leg, P, being permanently secured to the rear side of the bin, while the two other legs are removably inserted in their loops or sockets. The permanent leg extends above the upper end of the bin, and has a perforation, Q, by means of which it may be suspended by nails upon the wall when it is not desired to have the bin stand, the removable legs being taken out of their loops or sockets.
A stirrer or agitator, R, is journaled in the receptacle intended for flour, and consists of a shaft, S, having a number of transverse pins or rods, T, and having a crank, U, for turning it, and serves for the purpose of stirring the our, if it should become clogged.
Having thus described our invention, we claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A combined flour and meal bin and Hoursifter consistingr of a bin having the sifter at its lower end and formed with loops or sockets at the lower ends of its straight sides, two legs fitting with their upper ends in the said loops or sockets, and a leg permanently secured tothe rear side of the bin, extending above the upper end of the bin, and having a perforation at its upper end and iu its lower portion, as and for the purpose shown and set forth.
2. A bin having a vertical partition and having its sides contracting at its lower end, forming a neck, and having a laterally-projecting flange at the upper edge of its forward and rear side and a laterally-projecting flange around the base of the neck, the sliding cover our own we have hereunto affixed our signai having the downwardly and inwardly bent tures inpresence ofrtwo Witnesses.
side edoes ttn over the top anofes of the bin, an the cntoff slides sliding Ways at the lower end of the bin above the laterallyprojeebing ange, as and for the purpose shown Witnesses:
and set forth. CEAS. W. HELM,
In testimony that we Claim the foregoing as l T. R. YEARGAN.
