(Cl. 248-446) This invention is concerned with means for mounting a trash receptacle to the top rail of a fence in a manner which will permit the receptacle to be pivoted over the fence in an arcuate movement to turn same upside down to empty the contents thereof into a suitable receptacle.

The device, which comprises the subject matter of this invention, provides a means for supporting a trash receptacle to a fence, and positioned off the ground, and in a firm and secure manner, so that it cannot be turned over and the contents thereof scattered by animals. The trash receptacle cannot below away in wind storms and provides a quick and convenient means for the trash collector to empty the contents thereof in another container for loading on a truck or other vehicle with a minimum amount of effort.

It is, therefore, a primary object of the invention to provide a trash receptacle support which securely mounts same to the top rail of a fence or other like support in a position where it is off the ground so that it cannot be turned over or blown away, and in such manner that the receptacle may be turned bottom side up on the opposite side of the fence for emptying same and which may be moved back to the other side of the fence to upright position after being so emptied.

Still another object of the invention is to provide such a support for a trash container which is relatively inexpensive and easy to manipulate and which is adjustable to various diameters and sizes of trash receptacles.

Still another object of the invention is to provide such a trash receptacle support wherein the trash receptacle may be quickly and easily mounted thereto and removed therefrom.

Other and further objects of the invention will become apparent upon reading the detailed specification hereinafter following and by referring to the drawings annexed hereto.

A suitable embodiment of the invention is disclosed in the attached drawing wherein,

FIGURE I is -a side elevational view of the trash receptacle support device with a trash receptacle attached thereto as it would appear when mounted on the top rail of a fence, and showing the manner in which it may be tilted over the fence to turn the trash receptacle to upside down position,

FIGURE II is an enlarged side elevational view of the trash receptacle support device as it would appear when attached to the top rail of a fence and with a trash receptacle attached thereto,

FIGURE III is a front elevational view of the device as it would appear when attached to the top rail of the fence and with a trash receptacle attached thereto,

FIGURE IV is a top plan view of the mounting ring, or holder, for the trash receptacle;

FIGURE V is a side elevational view of the support ring, and,

FIGURE VI is a perspective view of the trash receptacle support device.

Numeral references are employed to designate the various parts shown in the drawings and like numerals indicate like parts throughout the various figures of the drawings.

The numeral 1 generally indicates the mounting bracket for the trash receptacle support device, which includes coinciding V-slots 2 formed in the opposite walls thereof 3,279,732 Patented Oct. 18, 1966 which have reinforcing flanges 3 on the lower edges thereof.

Upstanding spaced ears 4 are provided on the upper side of the mounting bracket 1, said ears 4 having aligned bolt receiving passages 5 therethrough. The top plate 1a of the mounting bracket 1 has spaced holes 6 therethrough which are arranged to receive the legs of the U-bolt 8 hereinafter described.

The V-slots 2 are arranged to be placed over the top rail 7 of a fence or other like support member and the bracket 1 is clamped thereto by means of a U-bolt 8 which passes around the rail 7 and through the spaced holes 6 provided in the top plate 1a of the bracket 1.

The U-bolt 8 has threaded ends 8a and 8b thereon which are arranged to receive the nuts 9 which may be threaded downwardly against the upper plate In, to firmly clamp the bracket 1 to the fence rail 7. A loop 10, which is preferably made of flexible, metallic, strap material, is arranged to extend about the garbage or trash receptacle 14 below the upper limb 14 and may be drawn securely thereabout by a take-up bolt 11 which passes through aligned holes in the ends of the

10a and 10b. The strap 11 may be drawn together in adjusted relationship about the upper end of the trash receptacle 14 by threading the nut along the threaded portion 11a of the bolt 11. Thereby the strap 10 may be adjusted to fit diiferent diameters of trash receptacles Within certain limits.

A tubular extension 12 is welded on the loop 10. The tubular extension 12 is inserted between the ears 4 of the bracket 1 and a bolt 13 is extended through the holes 5 and through aligned holes provided through the tubular extension 12 to thereby attach the tubular extension 12 between the ears 4 in position so that the tubular member 12 may pivot about the bolt 13.

The operation and function of the device hereinbefore described is as follows:

After assembling the device in the manner hereinbefore described, it will be noted that the trash receptacle 14 is in upright position on one side of the fence 15, which will be opposite the outer side. Therefore, the trash receptacle is suspended off the ground inside the fence in position so that it is protected against animals and tampering with by small children. Furthermore, it is securely mounted so that it cannot turn over or blow away.

When the trash collector appears on the scene, all he has to do to collect the trash from the receptacle 14, is to pivot it over the fence about the pivot bolt 13 and turn it in upside down position, as shown in broken lines in FIGURE I. This will empty the contents thereof into a receptacle which the trash collector will dispose on the ground therebelow. After emptying the receptacle it may again be pivoted over the fence into upright position, as shown in full lines in FIGURE I.

It will be noted that the threaded extensions 8a and 8b on the U-bolt 9 are in position to provide stops which engage the tubular member 12, as clearly shown in FIG- URES II and III, to limit the pivotal movement of the tubular member 12, so that it is assured that the trash receptacle 14 will be suspended in upright position and will not swing against the fence to damage same.

It will be understood that other and further embodiments of my invention can be devised without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

Having described my invention, I claim:

1. In a device of the class described, a support member arranged to be attached to the top rail of a fence, a member pivotally attached to the support adapted to be above the fence rail and engageable with a trash receptacle said member being adapted to be pivoted arcuately above the fence rail to horizontal positions on opposite sides thereof; and means attached to the support to limit the pivotal movement of the pivoted member in two directions.

2. In a device of the class described, a support member; means to attach the support member to a top fence rail; an upwardly extending portion on the support adapted to extend above the top rail; a loop member arranged to be secured about a trash receptacle; and means for pivotally ataching the loop member to the upwardly extending portion, said means being adapted to be pivoted arouately above the fence rail to cause the loop member to be moved from a horizontal position on one side of the fence rail to a horizontal position on the other side of the fence rail.

3. The combination called for in claim 2 with the addition of means carried by the support member to limit pivotal movement of the loop member in two directions.

4. The combination called for in claim 2 wherein the loop member has free ends; and adjustable attachment means attaching the free ends together whereby the diameter of the loop may be varied to fit different diameters of trash receptacles.

5. The combination called for the claim 2 wherein the upwardly extending portion on the support is a pair of upstanding ears; and the means for pivotally attaching the loop member to the upwardly extending portion is an outwardly extending member secured to the outer surface of the loop and extending between the ears; and a pivot pin extending through the outwardly extending member and the cars.

6. In a device of the class described, a support member adapted for attachment to the top rail of a fence, said member, having atop wall and opposed side walls; aligned V-slots in the lower end of the side walls of the support; a U-bolt arranged to extend about a top rail of a fence and through the top Wall of the support to secure the support to the top rail; and upwardly extending bracket on the support member extending above the fence rail; a circular loop; an extension on the loop pivotally attached to the upwardly extending bracket said extension and loop being arranged to be moved arc-uately above the fence rail from horizontal positions on opposite sides of the fence rail; means for attaching the loop about a trash receptable; the legs of the U-bolts being extended upwardly in position to engage and limit the pivotal movement of the extension on the strap in two directions.

7. The combination called for in claim 6 with the addition of means to vary the diameter of the loop.

Claims

1. IN A DEVICE OF THE CLASS DESCRIBED, A SUPPORT MEMBER ARRANGED TO BE ATTACHED TO THE TOP RAIL OF A FENCE, A MEMBER PIVOTALLY ATTACHED TO THE SUPPORT ADAPTED TO BE ABOVE THE FENCE RAIL AND ENGAGEABLE WITH A TRASH RECEPTACLE SAID MEMBER BEING ADAPTED TO BE PIVOTED ARCUATELY ABOVE THE FENCE RAIL TO HORIZONTAL POSITIONS ON OPPOSITE SIDES THEREOF; AND MEANS ATTACHED TO THE SUPPORT TO LIMIT THE PIVOTAL MOVEMENET OF THE PIVOTED MEMBER IN TWO DIRECTIONS.
