STEM-WINDING WATCH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 326,677, dated September 22, 1885.

To all whom, it ntcty concern,.-
Be it known that I, AUGUSTE SANDoz, director of the watch-niaker school of Neuchatel, Switzerland,have invented a new and useful Improvement in Stem-finding Vatches, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a stemwinding mechanism of great simplicity and of much greater strength than the devices heretofore in use. Its working is very reliable.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l shows a plan view of my stenrwinding mechanism with section through x y, and Fig. 2 a section through U W of the same.
The stem D is retained in the pendant by means of a screw, a, and its pivot d turns in the bridge E. On a squared part of the stein D slides a pinion, C, with click-teeth. The barrel B of the watch is placed in such a manner as to bring the beveled or clicktoothed wheel A, fixed on the arbor of the barrel, in gear with the pinion C, also provided with click-teeth. i A spring, F,xed to the bridge E by means of screwsff, presses the pinion C against wheel A, and allows the same to work as a click when the stem is turned backward. A click, I, acted upon by a spring, J, prevents the arbor ofthe barrel B turning backward under the influence of the mainspring.
