No. 325,196. Patented Aug. 25, 1885.
INVLNTOR. @MAQ ATTORNEYS.
NrTEn STATES PATENT OEEICE.
BENJAMIN F. CALDWELL, OE MONTROSE, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF TO ANDREW IVALLY, OF SAME PLACE.
BRACKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 25,196, dated August 25, 1885.
Application tiled September 2, 1884.
To @ZZ whom t may concern.-
Be itknown that I, BENJAMIN F. CALD- WELL, of Montrose, in the county of Henry and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brackets;
and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use m the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure l is a perspective view, Fig. 2 is a side view, and Fig. 3 is a plan view, of my improved bracket.
The same letters refer to the same parts in all the figures.
This invention has relation to brackets for sustaining and displaying various kinds of zo goods; and it has for its object to produce a device which shall be simple and inexpensive, and which shall be adapted for supporting a variety of articles in the smallest possible space, and in such a manner as to be readily and conveniently inspected when desired.
lith these ends in view the invention consists in the improved construction of the said bracket, which will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the 3o claims.
in the drawings hereto annexed, A designates the base ot' my improved bracket, which consists of a plate of any suitable ornamental shape, having openings or perforations B B to receive screws, nails, or other means for securing the device in position upon a wall. B L are a pair ot arms, extending outwardly, and inclined slightly in an upward direction from the upper end of the plate A, with 4o the lower end ot' which the under sides of the said arms are connected by means of suitable braces, O O, which enable the said arms to sustain a considerable weight. These braces O O are notched upon their inner sides, by
means ot' which they can be used for display ing wares, as well as for bracing the arms B B. its upper side with a rib or fla-nge, D, provided with a series of notches, E E, suitable 5o distances apart, for the purpose of receiving and spacing the articles supported upon or suspended from the arms B' B.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings hereto annexed,
Each of the arms B B is provided onl (No model.)
the operation and advantages of this invention will be readily understood. The bracket, being secured in position upon a wall, will serve for supporting and displaying various articles of merchandise which cannot otherwise be well displayed in a limited space, such 6o as hoes, shovels, rakes, and other farm implements, (which may be either supported with their blades or heads in the notches of the arms or suspended with their handles between the said arms,) chains, ropes, harness, and a variety of articles which will readily' suggest themselves.
l`he device is simple and inexpensive, and it may be readily cast or formed in one piece, or otherwise constructed to suitthe manufac- 7o turer.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- 1. A bracket for displaying merchandise, consisting essentially ot a base-plate having two parallel arms extending outwardly, and inclined slightly in an upward direction, rigidly secured thereto, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. A bracket for the display ot' merchan dise, consisting of a base-plate having a pair of arms rigidly secured thereto, the upper sides of which are provided with ribs or ti anges having notches, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. A bracket for displaying merchandise, consisting of abase-plate having outwardlyextending arms inclined slightly in an upward direction, and provided on their upper sides 9o with notched ribs or danges, and braces connecting the said arms with the lower end of the base-plate, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
4. A bracket for displaying merchandise, composed of a pair of arms secured to a baseplate, and a pair of braces notched upon their inner sides connecting said arms with the lower part of the baseplate, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereunto afiixed my signa-ture in presence of two witnesses.
BENJAMIN E. CALD\VELL.
