No. 357,414 1 Claim. (Cl. 37-179) This invention relates to mounting means for a scraper blade with respect to a tractor or the like.
One object of the invention is to provide a mounting means which permits the scraper blade to be centered with respect to the tractor or shifted to offset position toward the right or left without the scraper blade dropping from its mounting base during the adjusting operation.
Another object is to provide spaced opening and pin means for locking a scraper blade in either centered or offset position, and means for confining the scraper blade against disassociation from its mounting base during the adjusting operation during the time that the pins are removed from the openings.
A further object is to provide such confining means in the form of a flange on the scraper blade which overlaps a marginal edge of the mounting base, brackets being provided to retain the flange in its overlapping position and the scraper blade against disconnection from the mounting base while the adjustment of the blade is being accomplished thereby, permitting facilitating ready adjustment by an operator working alone.
With these and other objects in View, my invention consists in the construction, arrangement and combination of the various parts of my scraper blade mounting means, whereby the objects above contemplated are attained, as hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in my claim and illustrated in detail on the accompanying drawing, wherein:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a scraper blade mounting means embodying my invention;
FIG. 2 is a rear elevation thereof;
FIG. 3 is an enlarged sectional view on the line 33 of FIG. 2, and
FIG. 4 is a further enlarged sectional view on the line 44 of FIG. 2.
On the accompanying drawing I have used the reference numeral to indicate a frame which is A-shape in plan view and adapted to be connected to the usual three point hitch of a farm tractor or the like. For this connection a pair of studs 12 are provided and a forked connection 16. An arch 14 has its ends secured to the A-frame 10. The forked connection and the arch are omitted from the showing in FIG. 2.
A mounting base is shown at 18 having an upwardly extending stud 20 for the usual turn-table connection with the frame 19 which, however, forms no part of my present invention. Such connection is usually provided with suitable means for locking a scraper blade 26 supported by the mounting base 18 at various adjusted angles.
The mounting base 18 includes a plate 22 having downturned flanges 24. The scraper blade 26 has the usual cutting edge 28 mounted thereon, and along its upper edge has a rearwardly extending flange 30 which serves as a reinforcement and, as shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, overlaps the marginal front edge of the mounting plate 22. A pair of brackets 32 are welded to the plate 22 and overlie the flange 30. The brackets 32 have depending portions 34 in front of the flange 3t and the upper marginal edge of the scraper blade 26 which serve to confine the flange against dissassociation from the plate 22 while at the same time permitting its longitudinal movement therealong for adjusting purposes as will hereinafter appear.
The plate 22 has an opening 36 for each bracket 32 "ice and each bracket has an opening 38 for a pin 39. As shown in FIG. 2 the pins 39 pass through openings 40 and 42 of the flange 30 for holding the scraper blade in one of its adjusted positions (offset to the left in this figure).
To support the lower edge of the scraper blade 26 a yoke 48 is provided pinned at St to the flanges 24 and at 52 to a pair of perforated areas 56 secured to an angle 57 extending throughout the length of the scraper blade and serving as a reinforcement therefor. Removable keepers 53 are provided for the pins 52.
The flange 30 has further openings 44 and 46 shown in FIG. 2 and the angle 57 has further pairs of perforated cars 54 and 58. Accordingly, the pins 39 and 52 may be removed whereupon the scraper blade 26 may be slid to the right to a centered position where the pins 39 may coact with the openings 42 and 44 and the pins 52 may coact with the ears 54. The scraper blade is now centered in respect to the frame 10. If it is desirable to adjust the blade offset to the right then the pins 39 may coact with the openings 44 and 46 and the pins 52 may coact with the ears 58.
Opening and pin connect-ions have heretofore been provided in scraper blades of the character disclosed but when the pins are removed the blade can drop down away from the mounting base and it is diflicult to hold it up in place while replacing the pins especially when an operator is working alone. By providing the flange 30 overlapping the marginal edge of the plate 22 the pins 39 can be removed but the scraper blade will not drop down as it is held supported and can thereupon be easily and readily slid to the right or left as desired and the pins 39 reinserted.
In order to insure that the flange 30 remains supported on the marginal edge of the plate 22, the brackets 32 are provided so that flange 30 can slide between them and the plate, and by having the depending portions 34 the brackets also prevent the flange from being moved to the left in FIGS. 3 and 4 to an unhooked position with respect to the plate 22. Accordingly, the flange 30 is confined to longitudinal sliding movement only and serves as a sup port for the scraper blade during an adjusting operation.
From the foregoing specification it will be obvious that I have provided a scraper blade mounting means which eliminates the possibility of the scraper blade dropping away from the mounting base during either an offsetting or centering adjustment. The mechanism for accomplishing this desirable feature is comparatively simple and inexpensive to manufacture and apply.
Some changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of the parts of my scraper blade mounting means without departing from the real spirit and purpose of my invention, and it is my intention to cover by my claim any modified forms of structure or use of mechanical equivalents which may reasonably be included within its scope.
I claim as my invention:
In a scraper blade mounting means, a mounting base, a scraper blade depending from one edge thereof and having a flange along its upper edge, means for permitting longitudinal sliding movement thereof relative to said mounting base but con-fining said flange against disassociation from said mounting base in all positions of the two relative to each other, spaced opening and pin means to retain said flange at various adjusted positions relative to said mounting base, and a yoke connection from said mounting base to said scraper blade adjacent the lower edge thereof, said scraper blade having a plurality of perforated ears for selective pinned connection with the lower extremity of said yoke connection, said means to confine said flange against disassociation from said mounta 3 7 ing base comprising said flange overlapping a marginal edge thereof, and a pair of brackets fixed 011 said mount- 7 ing base and overlying the top and upper front edge of said flange to prevent both upward movement of said flange and forward movement of said'sc'rape'r blade relative to said mounting base.
