This invention generally relates to hangers for Christmas tree ornaments and more particularly to a hanger ornament for Christmas tree ornaments or the like so designed to be ornamental in itself.

Present hangers are designed primarily for hanging Christmas tree ornaments. However, they are plain and detract from, rather than add to, the appearance of the tree.

An object of the invention is to provide a hanger ornament which is ornamental in itself, is extremely simple to use, will aid the appearance of the Christmas tree, and can be used to hang Christmas tree ornaments or be used separately as an ornament.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a hanger ornament of the above type having auxiliary ornamentation adding to the appearance of the assembly and increasing the usefulness thereof.

Other objects of the invention are to provide a hanger ornament which is simple in construction, has a minimum number of parts, is inexpensive to manufacture, and is efficient in operation.

For other objects and a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which:

FIGURE 1 is a front elevational view of a hanger ornament constructed in accordance with one form of the present invention.

FIGURE 2 is a front elevational view of another form of the invention similar to FIGURE 1.

FIGURE 3 is a front elevational view of a modified form of the present invention.

FIGURE 4 is a front elevational view of another form of the invention similar to FIGURE 3.

Referring now more in detail to FIGURE 1 of the drawing, there is provided an ornamental body 1 having an ornament securing loop 2 formed in the lower portion and a downwardly facing open loop 3 formed in the upper portion. The downwardly facing open loop 3 is adapted to be hooked over and supported on a branch not shown. The ornamental body 1 is illustrated as an abstract ornamental design; however, it can be shaped into any ornamental configuration such as a star, a bugle, a Santa Claus, etc. The ornamental body 1 in this form of the invention is balanced to resist rotation when the hanger, without an ornament being attached to the ornament securing loop 2, is attached to a branch. The hanger so balanced could be used separately as an ornament or as an ornamental hanger for hanging Christmas tree ornaments. The hanger can be made of plastic, metal, or any other suitable material. It could also be painted or coated with any suitable material which will aid its appearance.

Referring now to FIGURE 2, there is provided an ornamental body 1 having an ornament securing loop 2 formed in the lower portion and a downwardly facing open loop 3 formed in the upper portion. The downwardly facing open loop 3 is adapted to be hooked over and supported on a branch. The ornamental body 1 is adapted to support auxiliary ornaments 5 by means of the loop supports 4. The auxiliary ornaments 5 aid the Patented Dec. 14, 1965 ice appearance of the assembly. The ornamental body 1 and the auxiliary ornaments 5 are balanced such that the ornamental hanger will resist rotation when it is attached to the branch thereby providing a hanger that is ornamental and can be used separately as an ornament or as an ornamental hanger for hanging Christmas tree ornaments. Referring now to FIGURE 3. In this form of the invention the hanger is provided with an ornamental body 1 having an ornament securing loop 2 formed in the lower portion and an inverted V-shaped serrated structure 7 formed in the upper portion adapted to hook over and firmly gripa branch. The inverted V-shaped serrated structure 7 will grip and bite into the branch and will prevent the hanger from rotating on the branch even though no ornament is mounted in the ornament securing loop 2 and the ornamental body 1 is not balanced. This permits the ornamental body 1 to be top heavy, thereby allowing more flexibility in the design of the ornamental body 1. This also allows the hanger to be used separately as an ornament since the hanger body is ornamental and the hanger will resist rotation even though no ornament is mounted in the ornament securing loop 2.

Referring now to FIGURE 4, there is provided an ornamental body 1 having an ornament securing loop 2 formed in the lower portion and an inverted V-shaped serrated structure 7 formed in the upper portion, adapted to hook over and firmly grip a branch. The inverted V-shaped serrated structure 7 will grip and bite into the branch and resist rotation. This allows flexibility in the design of the ornamental body 1 and also permits the hanger to be used separately as an ornament. The ornamental body 1 in this from of the invention is adapted to support auxiliary ornaments 5 by means of the looped supports 4. The auxiliary ornaments 5 aid the appearance of the assembly. They are illustrated as a bell with a holder 6. However, they could be any ornamental design. They could also be so designed and placed on the ornamental body 1 so as to aid balance, thereby adding to rotation resistance.

It is now recognized that a hanger ornament has been provided which is ornamental in itself, will improve the ornamentation of the tree, may be readily removed or applied, and can be used separately as an ornament or as an ornamental hanger for hanging Christmas tree ornaments or the like.

The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.

Having thus completely and fully described the invention, what is now claimed as new is as follows:

1. A hanger ornament, capable of use separately as an ornament or as an ornamental hanger for hanging Christmas tree ornaments, comprising an ornamental body having an ornament securing loop formed in its lower portion and a downwardly facing open loop formed in its upper portion adapted to be hooked over and supported on a branch said ornamental body having a portion extending above said downwardly facing open loop and being balanced such that the hanger will resist rotation on the branch even though no object is mounted on the ornament securing loop in the lower portion.

A hanger ornament, capable of use separately as an ornament or as an ornamental hanger for hanging Christmas tree ornaments, comprising an ornamental body having an ornament securing loop formed in its lower portion and a downwardly facing open loop formed in its upper portion adapted to be hooked over and supported mas tree ornaments, comprising an ornamental body having an ornament securing loop formed in its lower portion 3. A hanger ornament, capable of use separately as an ornament or as an ornamental hanger for hanging Christmas tree ornaments, comprising an ornamental body having an ornament securing look formed in its lower portion and a downwardly facing serrated open loop formed in its upper portion, said ornamental body having a portion extending above said downwardly facing serrated open loop, said downwardly facing serrated open loop being adapted to firmly grip a branch and resist rotation even though no object is mounted on the ornament securing loop in the lower portion.

4. A hanger ornament, capable of use separately as an ornament or as an ornamental hanger for hanging Christand a downwardly facing serrated open loop formed in its upper portion adapted to firmly grip a branch and resist rotation even though no object is mounted on the ornament securing loop in the lower portion, said ornamental body having auxiliary ornamentation attached thereto.

Claims (1)

1. A HANGER ORNAMENT, CAPABLE OF USE SEPARATELY AS AN ORNAMENT OR AS AN ORNAMENTAL HANGER FOR HANGING CHRISTMAS TREE ORNAMENTS, COMPRISING AN ORNAMENTAL BODY HAVING AN ORNAMENT SECURING LOOP FORMED IN ITS LOWER PORTION AND A DOWNWARDLY FACING OPEN LOOP FORMED IN ITS UPPER PORTION ADAPTED TO BE HOOKED OVER AND SUPPORTED ON A BRANCH SAID ORNAMENTAL BODY HAVING A PORTION EXTENDING ABOVE SAID DOWNWARDLY FACING OPEN LOOP AND BEING BALANCED SUCH THAT THE HANGER WILL RESIST ROTATION ON THE BRANCH EVEN THOUGH NO OBJECT IS MOUNTED ON THE ORNAMENT SECURING LOOP IN THE LOWER PORTION.
