To all whom it may concern: V
Beit known that I, WILLIAM H. Woon, of New York, in the State of N ew York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Refrigerating and Ice Machines; and I do the following isa full,
y niet which it appert-ains to make and use will enabie others skilled in the art to the same,
V4reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which 'forni part of this specification.
My improvements relate to that class of refrigerating or ice apparetnsesin which the re.,
frigerating effect is obtaiii "by the evaporation of o.- volatile liquid, the vapors of which nre compressed b v-a pump into the condenser' and then liquefied ready to be again subjected to the process of evaporation.
The objects oi' niy invention are theioiiow ing: First, to preventoverheating of the pcinpcylinder, which is the canse of loss of motive power; second,to eliect a more peri'eetstniiingbox of the pump third, toprovideareiief-valve forthe pump-cylinder, fonrth, to provide a vcs- -sel i'or receiving the lubricating iiuid so that the quant-ity used can he known to have passed through the automatic lubricating-pump to the machine; iifth, to provide an. improved receiver for the gos before entering the con densers; sixth, in providing valve-box fornihead of cylinder and valves less subject to Wear and tear and accompanied with less noise when at Work,- seventh, in providing duplicate condenser and refrigerator, so that no stol'ipage can be occasioned by leakage of either one or the oizher;'eightii', in providing improved vapor-cocks for operating the machine. y y i My invention consists First. Gi' the prevention oi" overheating of the puinpecylindcr by causing a diffusionvalv'e chamber to be placed between the refrigerator and the vacuum side of the pump, in which n small amount of the liquidi'ammonia is injected through atomizngmozzle inside said valve, so that the more raretied vapor partly saturated in its passage to the pump, which Wiii be evapirhe gos in the pump.
Second. By placing the sending-box inside compressingy in the lubricating-duid. The recess in the l stuing-boxencircling the rod will be covered in the said iubricating-iluid,whieh will prevent the escape of any of the vapor outside the pump. i Third. In providing a relief-pressure valve on the pumpcylinder. AIn case more lubricating-fluidliaving collected than the clearance would aliow for, it can be forced out through Said valve without' causing damage t-o the pump. I
Fourth. In providing a vessel by .which the 'quantity ofinbricatingdiuid used can be known and automatically pnt into thepnmp-eylinder by the lnbricatingpump operated 'by lever and Weight from the com of cold-water pump. The lever and Weight, being lifted, snpply the power to elevate one ninicat'ng-Llnid'to the pump, so that the exact quantity may he pnt in as required for the speed at `which the pn in p is worked,
Fifth. Inproviding a receiver for the gos with, preferably, a east-iron bottom, 'with a jacket for water and wit-h a cowl project-ing toward the bottom for preventing any saponiiied lubricating matter being lifted by the actioi ,of the gas, and in case more lubricating-fluid being passed'through the pump than is required causing the gas, and the trays which are supported round the inlet-pipe hai/ingo number of'. small holes in them tc attest. theprogress ofthe lubricating` fluid being carried into the condensingcoil.
Sixth. The providing a separate valvebox formi ng bead of puin ps, having Valves after the equilibrium type which `,viii to an extent preiilustrated in the accompanying i'onr sheets of drawings, in which Figure i. is a sectional elevation of the complete machine and connections. 2 is' a same to i'rotli or combine with the valve the reverse way to what is ugual'. Al: or naar ille top it is shouldered down 23 fol' packing-gmini, andai', 2h11, wieie-is hrml'od for mixmail look-mit', and mit 2,liavin; a square, 25, at the extremo and for opa-rating it.. The suinghox istlneaded fora glan to Soro-W llie packing flown lfiglii'ly. keep lli-e plug tight in its position, although if. ifs omporai'ily .lial l there, wiieiiiequiaito to paul: it, by tho spi spring 28 undoinlio 005mm side of plug', which is mad@ gaa-tight by the screwed cap iio eizoulai cavilfs 3C- and 3l are to be fille@ with lnbiieaingiluid, and are conneczafl will; a vertical hole connecting the two so llia; l-liov can be filled from timo to 7 .i
time by taking out the threaded plug 33. The lubricating soi'vos to koop tlio play; so that it can be easily move-(Laad prevents. bho gas capiiig roiiml lloc plug into the atmosphere.
