WILLIAM "WEBSTER HOUG-H, OF MOUND CITY, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND JOSEPH P. ROBARTS, OF SAME PLACE.
MINNOW=BUGKET.
SiECIPICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 321,606, dated July 1885- Application filed September 10, 1884.
To all whom it may cancer-n.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM W. HOUGH, of Mound City, in the county of Pulaski and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved MinnowBucket, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved minnow-bucket which is simple in constructiomfloats.easily, and is strong and durable.
The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a cross-sectional elevation of my improved minnow-bucket on the lineg 11 Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is alongitudinal sectional elevation on the line a: m, Fig. 1.
The interior bucket, A, made of wire netting or other perforated n1aterial,is secured to the under side of an annular float, B, provided with a bail or handle, O. .The annular float is inclined or beveled from the enter to the inner circular edge, as shown.-
A cover, D, hinged on the top of the annular float, and provided with apertures a, and a handle-knob, b, is drawn against the top of the float by a spiral spring, E, secured to the under side of the cover and to the inner side down in the bucket F they are locked together automatically.
(Model.)
hen carrying the minnow bucket, the bucket A is held within the bucket F to prevent the water in the bucket F from flowing off. At the river the bucket A is removed and placed in the water, the float B preventing its sinking; or both buckets can be floated together, as the float can carry both.
It is impossible to drown the minnows, as the outside bucket does not allow the water to cover the inside bucket completely. The minnows cannot be lost out of the bucket, as the cover is kept closed.
The inner bucket can be floated with the cover open without losing minnows, as the top of the middle opening of the float is too high above the water to permit the minnows to pass out.
I am aware that a perforated minnow-bucket having an annular float is not now; also, that box-covers have been closed by springs; also, that sections of a lunch-heater have been coupled by catches, and, I claim, broadly, none of the above constructions as of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to soon re by Letters Patent, is
As an improved article of manufacture, a. minnow-bucket consisting, essentially, in the perforated bucket A, the annular float B, having projections H on its lower outer edges, the spring-operated cover D, hinged to the top of the float over its central opening, and the outer imperforate bucket, A, having catches G on its upper edge to engage the projections H, substantially as set forth IVILLIAIII XVEBSTER HOUGII.
