This invention relates to finger rings, and more particularly relates to a finger ring having a setting which is provided with an insert member with an actively adhesive portion means interiorly of the ring which is secured to the inner surface of the ring for maintaining it in a position on the finger of a wearer maintaining the ring so that the setting is displayed exteriorly of the hand of a wearer.

As is perhaps well known, rings having a heavy face or setting for a mounting are apt to rotate to such a position that it requires continual adjustment to display the setting. The invention is adapted to maintain a ring in an attitude preferred by a wearer.

It is accordingly an object of this invention to provide a ring which remains in place on the finger of a wearer.

It is also an object of this invention to provide a finger ring having a setting portion and a circumferential groove on its inner surface with an insert provided with an actively adhesive portion means disposed in the groove, said means being adapted to engage the fleshy portion of a finger and maintain the ring in a position which displays the setting exteriorly of the hand of a wearer.

It is a general object of this invention to provide a finger ring which is relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well-adapted for the purposes for which it is intended.

In accordance with these and other objects which will become apparent hereinafter, the instant invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings illustrating preferred embodiment thereof, in which:

FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of a ring constructed in accordance with this invention;

FIGURE 2 is a partial cross sectional view taken along the line 22 of FIGURE 1 and looking in the direction of the arrows;

FIGURE 3 is a partial exploded view illustrating the details of the instant invention;

FIGURE 4 is a cross sectional view taken along the line 4--4 of FIGURE 2 and looking in the direction of the arrows;

FIGURE 4A is a cross sectional view taken along the line 44 of FIGURE 2 and looking in the direction of the arrows, said figure illustrating an alternative seating of the insert member to that shown in FIGURE 4;

FIGURE 5 is a cross sectional view of an alternative embodiment of the instant invention illustrating a ringtype insert member;

Referring more particularly to the drawings wherein like referenced characters designate like or corresponding parts throughout the different views, and referring particularly to FIGURE 1, the numeral 11 generally designates a finger ring having a circumferential groove 12 on its inner surface 13 of the conventional thin portion 14 with the midpoint of the groove being diametrically opposed to the thickened seating portion 15. The seating portion 15 is adapted to receive a stone (not shown) or the like mounted thereon.

Referring to FIGURE 3 an insert 16 is shown, said insert being receivable in the circumferential groove 12. As is shown in FIGURES 7 and 8, the insert 16 comprises a block 17 of resilient material having a top and a

bottom surface

18 and 19, respectively. The said surfaces are provided with an actively adhesive portion means, such as a coating of an adhesive material 21, and a top and a bottom

protective liner

22 and 23, respectively, are provided, which, prior to use, overlay and protect the coatings 21.

In use, the bottom liner 23 is removed by peeling it from the adhesive coating and the block is then posi tioned in the groove 12. The ring may then be positioned over a finger with the seating portion 15 in the correct position for exteriorly displaying a setting, and the top liner 22 is removed by picking and peeling it from the top surface 18. The ring will then remain in position in adhesive engagement with the fleshy portion of a finger. The process is repeated whenever the ring is removed if the adhesive has lost its adherent qualities.

With reference to FIGURE 6 and FIGURE 6A, the groove may be of the cross section there shown, the said groove having a floor 24 of a relatively large axial length and radially directed

26 and 27, each of which is interrupted by an axially extending and confronting enlarged

portion

28 and 29, respectively. With continued reference to FIGURE 6, the insert 16' is provided with a corresponding cross sectional area whereby it is adapted to be seated in the groove 12' and substantially located therein by the

projections

28 and 29 resisting inadvertent removal therefrom.

Additionally, the groove may have a curved floor 31 as shown in FIGURE 4A adapting it for use with an alternative type of block. In the embodiment shown in FIG- URE 4A, it will be seen that the block comprises 2

layers

32 and 33, respectively, the lower layer being adapted to be seated in the groove with the upper layer 33 being either of a spongy material or an actively adhesive portion means as in the embodiment shown in the FIGURE 4.

While the instant invention has been shown and de scribed herein in a more practical embodiment, it is recognized that departures may be made therefrom within the scope of the invention, which is therefore not to be limited to the details disclosed herein but is to be awarded the full scope of the claims so as to embrace any and all equivalent apparatus and articles.

What is claimed is:

1. In combination, finger ring having a circumferential groove in its inner surface, said ring being adapted to encircle a finger and having a seating portion means on its exterior periphery, said seating portion means being normally exposed exteriorly of the hand when the ring is worn, and an insert secured in the groove, said insert including an actively adhesive portion means extending radially inwardly of the inner surface of the ring, said actively adhesive portion means normally adhering to a fleshy part of the finger of a wearer to maintain a setting on the ring in fixed relation on a finger.

2. In combination a finger ring having a continuous circumferential groove in its inner surface, said ring being adapted to encircle a finger and having a seating portion means on its exterior surface, said seating portion means being normally exposed exteriorly of the hand when the ring is worn and a ring-shaped insert secured in the groove, said insert including an actively adhesive portion means extending radially inwardly of the inner surface of the ring to normally adhere to a finger whereby the seating portion is adapted to be continuously exposed.

A finger ring in combination with an insert member as set forth in claim 1 wherein the said insert comprises a block of rectangular cross section having a top surface and a bottom surface, the said surfaces having a coating of adhesive thereover, the said bottom surface being normally disposed in abutting engagement with the floor of the groove, and a protective liner removably adhering to the top layer and adapted to be removed therefrom by peeling it, to expose the adhesive to maintain the ring in a fixed relation on a finger.

Claims

1. IN COMBINATION, FINGER RING HAVING A CIRCUMFERENTIAL GROOVE IN ITS INNER SURFACE, SAID RING BEING ADAPTED TO ENCIRCLE A FINGER AND HAVING A SEATING PORTION MEANS ON ITS EXTERIOR PERIPHERY, SAID SEATING PORTION MEANS BEING NORMALLY EXPOSED EXTERIORLY OF THE HAND WHEN THE RING IS WORN, AND AN INSERT SECURED IN THE GROOVE, SAID INSERT INCLUDING AN ACTIVELY ADHESIVE PORTION MEANS EXTENDING RADIALLY INWARDLY OF THE INNER SURFACE OF THE RING, SAID
