(Cl. 129-1) This invention relates generally to label holders, and more particularly, to a label holder adapted for attachment to various diameter posts of ledger books and the like.

Heretofore attempts have been made to provide label holders for ledger books having posts of various diameters but difficulty was encountered because of the means provided for applying the prior art label holders to the posts. For example, label holders for application to ledger posts of various diameters were made which include longitudinally disposed slots which terminate either along the back edge of -a flange on the label holder or along the side edge thereof, and wherein the slots were provided with a plurality of curved indentations along the opposite sides thereof for engagement with the post. Such prior art holders have the disadvantage of not being able to provide a positive lock between the ledger posts and the label holder whereby they can be accidentally removed from the ledger book merely by the usual handling of the ledger book. Another disadvantage of such prior art label holders is that they rely on pressure from the weight of paper sheets to hold them in place.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a novel and improved label holder which is of universal application so that it will fit any known make of ledger book binder posts and which is provided with means for positively locking the label holder in place so that it cannot be accidentally removed by the handling of the ledger book. The label holder of the present invention does not rely on pressure from the weight of the paper sheets to hold it in the ledger book and it actually encircles the binding post.

It is another object of the present invention to provide a novel and improved label holder for a ledger book which may be made from any suitable material, as for example plastic sheet material or the like, and which is simple in construction, economical of manufacture, and eflicient in operation.

It is a further object of the present invention to provide a novel and improved label holder for ledger books of the type having one or more posts extending through the paper sheets in the ledger book and wherein the label holder comprises a card holder portion to which is integrally secured a retainer flange having a plurality of various diameter holes therethrough for the reception of various sizes of ledger book binding posts. The holes are disposed in an offset position relative to each other and they are offset both longitudinally and transversely from each other. The retainer flange is provided on the rear upper surface edge with a non-skid means to prevent pivoting of the label holder on the binding posts.

Other objects, features and advantages of this invention will be apparent from the following detailed description, appended claims and the accompanying drawings.

The post lock holder of the present invention may be made from any suitable material, as for example, a plastic sheet material. However, it will be obvious that it may also be manufactured from a suitable plastic material by a conventional injection molding process or extrusion process. FIG. 1 shows a fragmentary portion of a loose leaf binder in the form of a ledger book and which comprises the back cover generally indicated by the numeral 10 on which is mounted a number of ledger sheets generally indicated by the numeral 11. The ledger sheets 11 are secured together in the usual manner by binder posts as 12 which are adapted to be received in holes as 14 in the cover 13 and to be locked thereto by a conventional releasable locking means operated by a key 15.

As shown in the drawing, the label holder of the present invention includes a card holder portion generally indicated by the numeral 16 to which is integrally secured a retainer flange portion generally indicated by the numeral 17. As shown in FIG. 4, in the free state the outer surfaces of the card holder portion 16 and the retainer portion 17 are disposed at an angle relative to each other of approximately Accordingly, when the retainer flange portion 17 is mounted in place on a ledger book as shown in FIG. 1, the card holder portion 16 is secured tightly against the outer edges of the ledger sheets 11. As shown in FIGS. 1, 2 and 4, the card holder portion 16 includes the outer transparent or window portion 18 on the inner side thereof and on which is mounted the label card 20. The label card 29 is releasably secured against the inner side of the window portion 18 by means of the integral reversely bent flange 19.

integrally connected to the card holder portion 16 along the upper edge thereof is the inwardly extended or projecting retainer flange portion 17 which is adapted to lie on the rear edge of the ledger sheets 11 and extend inwardly a distance beyond the binder post 12. The retainer flange 17 includes the flat rectangularly shaped member 21 through which is formed a plurality of binder post holes. The retainer flange member 21 includes a plurality of circular holes 22 through 28 which are arranged in an are or curve in the retainer flange member 21.

In one operative embodiment, the label holder of the present invention Was made to the following dimensions and it operated eificiently. The label holder was made 2 /2 long with the card holder portion 16 being 1 high and the retainer flange 17 being 1%" in width. The retainer flange 17 was provided along the rear edge thereof, on the outer surface, with a non-skid impression 31 which may be rolled into the plastic material. The nonskid impression 31 may be of any form, as for example, it may comprise a plurality of angled lines so as to form a knurled effect. The non-skid impression 31 grips the adjacently disposed ledger book cover or ledger sheets to retain the card holder against pivoting on the binder posts. Although the holes on the opposite sides of the central hole 22 have been made to the same diameter, it will be understood that the

In use, the label holder is disposed so that the appropriate hole receives the binder post 12 to form a positive lock therewith to prevent accidental removal of the card holder by handling or any other action. The card holder is of universal use and fits any known make of binder post. It will be seen that the retainer flange actually encircles the binder post 12 to provide a positive lock therebetween.

While it will be apparent that the preferred embodiment of the invention herein disclosed is well calculated to fulfill the objects above stated, it will be appreciated that the invention is susceptible to modification, variation and change without departing from the proper scope or fair meaning of the subjoined claims.

What I claim is:

1. A label holder, for a ledger book having ledger sheets retained therein by binder posts extending through the sheets, comprising, a card holder portion adapted to bear against the rear edges of the sheets of the ledger book; a retainer flange portion integrally connected to the card holder portion and extended rearwardly of the card holder portion and adapted to be disposed between the sheets in the ledger book; said retainer flange portion being provided with a series of intersecting binder post holes arranged in and are disposed lengthwise along the rear edges of the sheets of the ledger book and in offset positions relative to each other, each of said post holes being adapted to receive a binder post and bear against the inner and outer sides of the binder post to retain the label holder in place, said holes being of increasing diameter progressing from each end of said are toward the midpoint of the arc, and the end holes in said series of intersecting holes being closed on the outer ends thereof at the ends of said arc.

2. A label holder as defined in claim 1, wherein said retainer flange portion is provided with a non-skid knurled impressing on the upper side thereof.

Claims

1. A LABEL HOLDER, FOR A LEDGER BOOK HAVING LEDGER SHEETS RETAINED THEREIN BY BINDER POSTS EXTENDING THROUGH THE SHEETS, COMPRISING, A CARD HOLDER PORTION ADAPTE DTO BEAR AGAINST THE REAR EDGES OF THE SHEETS OF THE LEDGER BOOK; A RETAINER FLANGE PORTION INTEGRALLY CONNECTED TO THE CARD HOLDER PORTION AND EXTENDED REARWEARDLY OF THE CARD HOLDER PORTION AND ADAPTED TO BE DISPOSED BETWEEN THE SHEETS IN THE LEDGER BOOK; SAID RETAINER FLANGE PORTION BEING PROVIDED WITH A SERIES OF INTERSECTING BINDER POST HOLES ARRANGED IN AND ARC DISPOSED LENGTHWISE ALONG THE REAR EDGES OF THE SHEETS OF THE LEDGER BOOK AND IN OFFSET POSITIONS RELATIVE TO EACH OTHER, EACH OF SAID POST HOLES BEING ADAPTED TO RECEIVE A BINDER POST AND BEAR AGAINST THE INNER AND OUTER SIDES OF THE BINDER POST TO RETAIN THE LABEL HOLDER IN PLACE, SAID HOLES BEING OF INCREASING DIAMETER PROGRESSING FROM EACH END OF SAID ARC TOWARD THE MID-
