Be it known that I, FRANKLIN J. DRAKE, a lieutenant in the United States Navy, at present residing in Boston, lllassaehusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in VeloeipedeSaddles, of which the following is a specification.

My improvements relate more particularly to that part or combination of parts in such saddles connecting them with the spring or frame of the velocipede, and are shown as applied in one form to the bicycle-saddle in the annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 shows in bottom plan a bicycle spring and saddle with my improvements applied in one form. Fig. 2 shows a front end view of the same. Fig. 3 shows a section of the same, and Figs. 4 and 5 show parts of the same in detail.

A is a saddle-supporting plate or frame, and A is the flexible portion of the seat. 13 is a saddle-spring. O is a plate or clamp, which I preferably make, for lightness, steadiness, and effectiveness, forked or Y-shaped with the arms 0' G, on which are formed lugs c c for hinges, and at the other end of which is an opening, 0 to admit the folding of it down upon a bolt, and I also, preferably, make it serrated or notched on the side which is to come in Contact with the spring. D isa clamp lug, which may either be formed with or upon the supporting-plate A, or may be attached thereto by means of rivets or a bolt passing through the hole (1, and which also bears the projections d (l, to which the clamp G is hinged. D and H are bolts through the supportingplate A, and upon the bolt D is the hinge-lug D. Vhen this lug is made a part of the plate A,tl1e bolt D is of course unnecessary. Upon the bolt H is operated the thumbnut E. I

place a leather strip, a, upon the under side of the support A, so as to come between it and the clamp 0 is released and depressed away from the spring B,and the saddle is easily removed. To replaceit, it is put in. the desired position, the clamp O folded down against the spring, the nut E replaced upon the bolt H and turned up tightly. This contrivanee makes a simple and effective attach ment for the saddle to the spring, and has the advantages of allowing the saddle to be easily placed upon or removed from the spring or adjusted to positions, and of giving, by reason of the lever age, a better pressure upon the bottom side of the spring, and it avoids thenecessity of having to remove two nuts from their belts in order to take the saddle off, as is the ease with the rude clamp in common use on bicyclesaddles.

I claim as new and of my invention-' The combination, in a velocipede=saddle, of a supporting-plate, A, a hinge-lug, D (l d, with bolt D, a hinged clamp, G, with parts a 0, 7O

bolt H, and nut E, or their equivalents, constructed to operate essentially as set forth.
