Description

July 13, 1965 MAYER ETAL 3,194,240
PANTIE GIRDLE Filed Oct. 18, 1963 United States Patent 3,194,240 PANTIE GIRDLE Edgar G. Mayer, Jackson Heights, and Malvin .I. Kurtis, Great Neck, N.Y., assignors to Malvin .l. Kurtis, Inc, Great Neck, N.Y., a corporation of New York Filed Oct. 18, 1963, Ser. No. 317,272 2 Claims. (Cl. 128-527) This invention relates generally to nether body garments, and more particularly to improved pantie girdle construction.
Garments of this type are generally used to constrict the girth of the wearers body, but they have the effect of undesirably inhibiting free body and leg movement.
It is therefore among the objects of the present invention to provide a garment of the class described which will have a suitable restricting effect while affording a high degree of freedom of legs and body.
Another object herein lies in the provision of a garment of the class described which will afford the wearer a maximum of comfort.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a pantie girdle which may be laundered as a unit or may have improved detachable crotch element construction for separate laundering.
These objects, and other incidental ends and advantages, will more fully appear in the progress of this disclosure and be pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawing, in which similar reference characters designate corresponding par-ts throughout the several views:
FIGURE 1 is a front elevational view of a first embodiment of the invention;
FIGURE 2 is a rear elevational view of the first embodiment, partly broken away.
FIGURE 3 is a side elevational view of the first embodiment, with parts distended.
FIGURE 4 is a horizontal sectional view as seen from the .plane 44 on FIGURE 1.
FIGURE 5 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view as seen from the plane 55 on FIGURE 1, with parts omitted for clarity.
FIGURE 6 is a horizontal sectional view corresponding to FIGURE 4, but showing a modification.
In accordance with the invention, the garment, generally indicated by reference character 10, comprises broadly: a front panel element 12, first and second side panel elements 14 and 16, a rear panel element 18, first and second diagonal tension elements 20 and 22, first and second inner thigh portion encircling elements 24 and 26, and a crotch element 28.
The front panel element 12 may be composed of either relatively non-elastic textile fabric, with the warp or weft threads thereof being vertically or horizontally arranged, or of elastic fabric which may be elastic in one or more directions. The front panel element has a configuration best seen in FIGURE 1, and includes a top edge 30, generally vertical side edges 32 and 34, and a bottom edge 36.
The first and second side panel elements 14 and 16 are substantially identical except that they are symmetrical so that side panel element 14 may contact the wearers right side while side panel element 16 may contact the wearers left side. Thus, said panel elements have side top edges 38 and 40, side bottom edges 42 and 44, front vertical edges 46 and 48, and rear vertical edges 58 and 52, respectively. The side panel elements are composed of resilient fabric which is elastic along vertical and horizontal axes.
The rear panel element 18, best seen in FIGURE 2, has a top rear edge 56, a bottom rear edge 58 with a 3,194,248 Patented July 13, I965 central upward indentation 60. The rear panel element 18 is composed of resilient fabric which is elastic along a vertical axis.
The'first and second diagonal tension elements 28 and 22 are substantially identical and symmetrical about a vertical axis, and are each composed of resilient material which is elastic along two axes at 90 with respect to each other, one of said axes on each element lying parallel to the respective bot-tom free edges 62 and 64.
Thus, the diagonal tension elements 29 and 22 have top edges 66 and 68, long side edges 70 and 72, short side edges '74 and 76 interconnecting bottom edges '78 and 8t), and the said bottom free edges 62 and 64, respectively.
The first and second inner thigh portion encircling elements 24 and 26 are elongated strap-like pieces which taper from their wider rear portions 82 and 84 to their narrower front portions 86 and 88, and they are composed of resilient material and they are elastic along two axes at 90 with respect to each other, one of said axes in each encircling element being parallel with the respective bottom edges 90 and 92.
In the first embodiment, the crotch element 28 (-FIG- URE 4) includes a pair of side edges 93, front edges 94 forming front, side, and rear corners at which are located snap fastener elements 95, 96, 97, and 98, the counterparts of which are secured to a tab 100, encircling elements 24 and 26, and a tab 101. Since the snap fastener elements 86 and 97 are mounted on the encircling elernents 24 and 26, they shift in position therewith, thereby providing for effectiveness and comfort while accommodating to the wearers body movement and free leg action.
The various parts are assembled as shown in the drawing, the front panel 12 being connected to the side panels 14- and 16 and the side panels being connected to the rear panel 18. The diagonal tension elements 20 and 22 are connected at their upper edges to the lower edge of the front panel.
The diagonal tension elements 20 and 22, at their long side edges 70 and 72 are connected to the front vertical edges 46 and 48. The elements 20 and 22, at their short side edges 74 and 76 are connected to the edges 46 and 43 respectively. The elements 20 and 22 at their interconnecting bottom edges 78 and 80 are connected to the upper edges of the elements 24 and 26. The elements 24 and 26 have their narrower front portions 86 and 88 connected to the edges 46 and 48 and their rear wider portions connected to the edge of the indentation 60.
In the modification shown in FIGURE 6, certain of the parts are given the same reference characters as the first embodiment, with the addition of the prefix 2. In the modification, the crotch element 228 is composed of two pieces joined at the center seam 21 1, and is permanently connected to the garment. The side edges 293 are free, but the front edges 294 are joined to the lower edge of the front panel 212 While the rear edges 2113 are connected to the indentation edge 260 of rear panel 218.
We wish it to be understood that we do not desire to be limited to the exact details of construction shown and described for obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art to which the present invention relates.
We claim:
