Description

July 6, 1965 s. GRISHMAN 3,192,930 1 IN VEN TOR.
5/M0/v GR/SHMA/v BY HTTORNL'Y United States Patent M 3 192 930 GARMENT CGMFRISING RELATIVELY ADJUST- ABLE GHQDLE AND PANTS. RUDY PARTS Simon Grishman, Yonkers, N .Y., assignmto William Gluckin & Company, Inc, New York, N.Y., a corporation of New York Filed Nov. 9, 1962, Ser. No. 236,65tl 3 Claims. (Cl. 128-519) This invention relates to garments generally classified as girdles incorporating a pant wherein the girdle and panty body parts are relatively adjustable at the waistband portion of the garment to vary the length of the girdle or positioning of the panty within the girdle, so as to adapt a single garment of a predetermined size to adjustment upon the body of the wearer for most perfect fit upon the body and support of the body.
The novel features of the invention will be best understood from the following description, when taken together with the accompanying drawing, is which certain embodiments of the invention are disclosed and, in which, the separate parts are designated by Suitable reference characters in each of the views and, in which:
FIG. 1 is a plan view of a garment made according to my invention, with parts of the construction broken away and in section. The view illustrates the garment parts disposed one directly upon the other and the righthand sectional portion being substantially on the line 11 of FIG. 2.
FIG. 2 is a partial section on the line 2-2 of FIG. 1, illustrating the garment parts diagrammatically in an extended or use position.
FIG. 3 is a partial section on the line 3--3 of FIG. 1; and
FIG. 4 is a partial section on the line 44 of FIG. 1 diagrammatically illustrating a modification.
In illustrating one adaptation and use of my invention, I have shown in FIGS. 1 to 3, inclusive, a garment, comprising an outer girdle body part and an inner panty body part 11. In the present disclosure, these parts are composed of front portions 16, 11 and rear parts 10", 11", as diagrammatically illustrated in FIG. 2
of the drawing, the front and rear parts being stitched at sides of the garment, as seen at 12 and 13 in said figure. The Outer and inner body parts 10 and 11 are integrally formed from single materials, folded as at 14, preferably of all-way stretch fabrics and, in the various sectioning, no attempt has been made to illustrate the type and kind of fabric employed. Centrally of the front part 10' of the body part 10 is attached an inner panel 15, shown in section in FIG. 3 of the drawing, and the contou of one half of the panel is noted in dotted lines at the left of FIG. 1 of the drawing. This panel 15 is preferably secured to the front part 18' by any desired stitching bordering the peripheral contour of the panel. This stitching is not illustrated in FIG. 1, but is diagrammatically illustrated at 16 in FIG. 3. The panel 15 can be composed of any desired material which can be nonextensible. In one adaptation of my invention, I prefer to use a panel which is extensible in the vertical direction and has no horizontal extension.
Considering FIG. 1 of the drawing, it will be noted that the lower edge portion of the body part 1! has, at its inner surface, an elastic 17 and fixed to the elastic at suitably spaced intervals are depending garter supporting straps 18, as commonly employed in girdles.
The panty body part preferably has the front and rear portions joined in a seam, as diagrammatically illustrated at 19 in FIG. 1, in forming at the lower portion of the pantry part leg openings, as at 20 and a crotch portion 21. The leg openin s are preferably bordered by an 3,192,939 Fetented July 6, 1965 elastic hand, one of which is shown at 215' at the right of FIG. 1.
Considering FIG. 4 of the drawing, I have shown, in section, at 22 and 23 the upper folded portion of the girdle garment part and the panty garment part, these parts being stitched together, as indicated diagrammatically at 24. With a structure of this type and kind, the panty part 23, for example, can be formed of a totally different material o combinations of materials than the outer girdle part 22 and, in some instances, the panty part could be formed from such'materials as Helenca, an extensible or stretchable material having a soft characteristic. However, with the structure of FIG. 4, aswell as that shown in FIG. 1, it will appear from the diagrammatic dotted line showing in FIG. 1 that the two body parts, namely the girdle part and the panty part can be relatively adjustable to provide the most comfortable fit upon the body of the wearer, as well as the mostdesirable support of the body. This adjustment consists in changing the position or the fold 14 by moving the girdle part and panty part relatively to each other. Considering FIG. 1, it will appear that the fold 14, shown in full lines, has been raised to the dotted position 14, thus lengthening the girdle part and shortening the panty part, as illustrated in dotted lines at the rightof this figure. In the full line showing of FIG. 1, the girdle would be of a shorter length than the position outlined in dotted lines solely at the right of FIG. 1 and, is this dotted line position, the panty would be positioned higher in the girdle part, as will be apparent.
It will also be understood that the folded end portion, as at 14 in FIG. 1, and 14 in FIG. 4, forms the waistband portion of the garment and, thus, this waistband portion becomes variable in the different adjustments of the garment upon the body of the wearer. In actual practice, the girdle body part can be formed of any desirable materials or combinations of materials and this is also true of the formation of the panty body part .11.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: V
1. A garment of the character defined comprising a girdle body part and a panty body part arranged within the girdle part, the girdle part having front and rear portions integrally joining front and rear portions of the panty part, said front and rear portions of each part being joined in seams at sides of the garment, said joined parts forming at the waistband portion of the garment a variable f-old coupling, and said coupling providing free relative adjustment of the girdle and panty parts one with respect to the other in varying position relationship of the parts and in adapting said girdle and panty parts of the garment to predetermined desirable fit and positioning upon the body of the wearer.
2. A garment as defined in claim 1, wherein at least a part of the front portion ofthe girdle body part includes a vertically extending panel fixed to the inner surface thereof.
3. A garment as defined in claim 2, wherein said panel.
includes material extensible in a vertical direction.
