(Cl. 19335) This invention relates to foundry machines and, more particularly, to conveyors for foundry machines.
The present invention involves a conveyor in combination with a sand support surface known as a fall out plate I to collect any sand that drops oil? at the bottom of the drags as the flasks are conveyed over the conveyor.
Normally, in the usual installation, this sand will drop onto the floor under the conveyor and will have to be cleaned up at frequent intervals. This involves extra work and makes the premises unsightly. The fall out plate extends the full length of the conveyor and any sand that drops onto this plate is pushed along the plate ahead of the flask. The fall out plate is preferably supported approximately one-eighth of an inch to one-half inch below the bottom surface of the flask.
During certain periods of operation, the packed sand making up the entire mold tends to sag or even drop out. The incorporation of the fall out plate between the conveyor wheels helps support the packed sand and to thereby contain the sand until it reaches the shake-out or punch-out station.
It is, accordingly, an object of the present invention to provide an improved conveyor for foundry flasks.
Another object of the invention is to provide the combination of a conveyor and a fall out plate for a foundry process.
A further object of the invention is to provide a conveyor for sand flasks which is simple in construction, economical to manufacture, and simple and eflicient in operation.
With the above and other objects in view, the present invention consists of the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that changes may be made in the form, size, proportions, and minor details of construction without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

FIG. 1 is a longitudinal cross sectional view of a conveyor and a flask thereon according to the invention; and
FIG. 2 is an isometric view of the conveyor with flask supported thereon partly broken away to better show the invention.
Now with more particular reference to the drawing, the conveyor is shown having wheels 4 supported on lateral rails or channels 5. These channels are laterally spaced and the axles supporting the flanged wheels 4 extend inwardly therefrom. Support beams 6 are supported on the posts shown on a base 7. Sand indicated at 8 and 13 is shown compressed in the flask forming a mold around patterns 12 in the usual manner. It is noted that the sand is shown compressed below the top surface of the flask in the manner that it would be compressed to form a mold by means of a diaphragm molding machine.

A fall out plate 3 is attached to the support beams 6 and is disposed preferably slightly below the uppermost part of the outer peripheral surfaces of the wheels 4.
A cope 10 and a drag 11 are shown with the drag having an outwardly extending flange supported on the uppermost part of the outer support peripheral surfaces of the wheels 4. Thus, the front edge of the drag only slightly clears the top of the plate 3 as the flasks move along the plate. This clearance should be in the order of from one-eighth to one-half inch.
The plate 3 may have a hole 16 therein through which the sand will be forced by the drag 11 as the sand is moved along the conveyor. A suitable repository for the sand can be supported below the plate at a fall out area below hole 16 at the end of the plate 3. Thus, when the molds are built and moved along the conveyor, any sand which falls off of the bottom surface 8 onto the plate 3 will be pushed along the fall out plate by the drag 11 until the sand falls through the hole 16. The sand can be carried from this place to a position where it can be reclaimed.
The foregoing specification sets forth the invention in its preferred practical forms but it is understood that the structure shown is capable of modification within a range of equivalents without departing from the invention which is to be understood is broadly novel as is commensurate with the appended claims.
The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:
1. In combination, a bottom plate and a conveyor adapted to carry a plurality of open flasks open at the top and bottom and adapted to contain sand molds formed thereon to be conveyed on said conveyor,
said conveyor comprising spaced rows of wheels,
said wheels being adapted to support a plurality of said said bottom plate extending laterally from one said row of wheels to the other and terminating at its edges adjacent said wheels and on the inner sides thereof, said flasks having a lower edge resting on the support periphery of said wheels and disposed in close proximate relation to said plate whereby sand which falls from said open flasks is moved along said plate by said flasks to a fall out area at the end of said plate.
2. In combination, a bottom plate and a conveyor adapted to carry a plurality of flasks open at the top and bottom and adapted to contain sand molds formed thereon to be conveyed on said conveyor,
said conveyor comprising spaced rows of wheels,
said wheels each having a flange at the outer side of the support periphery thereof,
said wheels adapted to support a plurality of said flasks,
said bottom plate extending laterally from a position adjacent one said row of wheels to a position adjacent the other,
said plate terminating at a position spaced from the inside edges of said Wheels,
said plate being slightly below the uppermost part of said support periphery of said Wheels, said flasks having a lower edge resting on said support periphery of said wheels and disposed in close proximate relation to said plate whereby sand which falls from said flasks is moved along said plate by said flasks to a fall out area at the end of said plate.
3. In combination, a bottom plate and a conveyor said conveyor comprising a support frame, laterally spaced support rails on said frame, wheels having flanges adjacent said rails andsuppor peripheral surfaces rotatably supported on said rails,

IN COMBINATION, A BOTTOM PLATE AND A CONVEYOR ADAPTED TO CARRY A PLURALITY OF FLASKS OPEN AT THE TOP AND BOTTOM AND ADAPTED TO CONTAIN SAND MOLDS FORMED THEREON TO BE CONVEYED ON SAID CONVEYOR, SAID CONVEYOR COMPRISING SPACED ROWS OF WHEELS, SAID WHEELS EACH HAVING A FLANGE AT THE OUTER SIDE OF THE SUPPORT PERIPHERY THEREOF, SAID WHEELS ADAPTED TO SUPPORT A PLURALITY OF SAID FLASKS, SAID BOTTOM PLATE EXTENDING LATERALLY FROM A POSITION ADJACENT ONE SAID ROW OF WHEELS TO A POSITION ADJACENT THE OTHER, SAID PLATE TERMINATING AT A POSITION SPACED FROM THE INSIDE EDGES OF SAID WHEELS, SAID PLATE BEING SLIGHTLY BELOW THE UPPERMOST PART OF SAID SUPPORT PERIPHERY OF SAID WHEELS, SAID FLASKS HAVING A LOWER EDGE RESTING ON SAID SUPPORT PERIPHERY OF SAID WHEELS AND DISPOSED IN CLOSE PROXIMATE RELATION TO SAID PLATE WHEREBY SAND WHICH FALLS FROM SAID FLASKS IS MOVED ALONG SAID PLATE BY SAID FLASKS TO A FALL OUT AREA AT THE END OF SAID PLATE.
