(Cl. 229-72) This invention relates generally to containers for paper and coins and more particularly to a container for holding money and the necessary papers to make a bank de- 'suming annoyanceof spillingany of the contents of the j 3 container onto the ground or pavement and let admit of removal of the'said contents easily and quickly in order to maintain a rapid flow of traflic past the tellers window. It has been found that both of these objectives may be readily achieved through the use of a container having a closed coin pocket and a readily accessible recess for papers and the like open both at the top and one side thereof which after folding back a single portion of the container permits easy access to and removal of said papers.

, Accordingly, one of the primary objectives of this invention is to provide a container for securing the contents thereof during handling between individuals and which can be quickly laid open to expose the contents thereof for rapid and easy removal of same.

Another object of this invention is to provide a banking envelope having a pocket for coins and a recess for papers, each of which are readily accessible to the teller.

Additional objects and novel features of this invention will become apparent from the description which follows, taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings in which:

FIG. 1 is a plan view of a blank before being folded;

FIG. 2 is a plan view of a container constructed in accordance with the instant invention shown completely folded and formed and ready for use except for the folding of one of the side panels over the coin pocket and a portion of the central panel;

FIG. 3 is a plan view of the container shown in FIG. 2 after the side panel has been folded over the coin pocket and the central panel; and

FIG. 4 is a cross-sectional end view taken along line 44 in FIG. 3.

Referring now to the drawings wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, in FIG. 1 is shown a blank from which a container or envelope 12 constructed in accordance with the instant invention may be formed. Blank 10 comprises a central panel 14, an end panel 16 extending from one end of the central panel 14, and two

side panels

18 and 20 extending from the opposite sides of the central panel 14. As shown, central panel 14 is generally rectangular in shape. End panel 16 is generally rectangular in shape and has a width equal to and preferably less than the width of central panel 14. End panel 16 comprises a body portion 16a and a flap portion 16b. The body portion 16a is disposed intermediate the flap portion 16b and the central panel 14. End panel 16 is adapted to be folded upward to overlie a portion of central panel 14.

Side panel 18 may be formed generally rectangular in "ice shape although preferably the top and bottom edges thereof are formed slightly diver-gent toward central panel 14 in order that the top edge thereof will not interfere with the folding of flap portion 16b and that the bottom portion thereof will not project or extend beyond the end of central panel 14 when side panel 18 has been folded to overlie end panel 16. Side panel 18 is shown as having an adhesive material deposited along the bottom portion 18a and the side portion 18b thereof. Side panel 18 is adapted to be folded to overlie generally the body portion 16a of end panel 16 and to be adhered theretoby the adhesive material deposited at 18a and 18b.

Side panel 20 is preferably formed as shown, i.e., having the general size and shape ascentral panel 14. However, side panel 20 may be either slightly longer or shorter than the length of central panel 14 and may additionally be formed by removing a triangular shaped tab portion from the upper right hand corner thereof as viewed from FIG. 1. Since additional material is required to make the length of side panel 20 greater than the length of central panel 14, it is preferred that the length of side panel 20 be no greater than the length of central panel 14.

When end panel 16 and side panel 18 are adhered to eachother a coin pocket is formed which may be closed at the top thereof by folding flap portion 16b of end panel 16 over side panel 18. Formation of the aforesaid coin pocket also results in the formation of a recess between end panel 16 and central panel 14 in which may be desposited bank books, deposit slips, checks, folding money and the like. Upon folding of side panel 20 over the coin pocket and the portion of the central panel 14 extending above the coin pocket, a neat compact banking envelope is fashioned as is shown in FIG. 3 which for all practical purposes prevents the accidental spillage of any of the contents thereof during normal handling thereof between individuals and yet at the same time enables an individual to lay open and expose the contents thereof in a minimum amount of time and without the necessity of tearing or otherwise mutilating the envelope to open the same.

It will be readily appreciated that a container or banking envelope containing a completely closed coin pocket which prevents spillage of coins therefrom during handling between individuals, a recess for papers and the like of varying widths which is readily accessible for inserting and removing same both from the top and one side thereof and which can be quickly laid open to expose all the contents thereof has been described. As a result, with the use of a container or banking envelope as described herein, it will possible to maintain a rapid flow of traflic past the receiving windows at drive-in banks.

It is to be understood that this invention is not limited to the exact embodiment of the device shown, which is merely by way of illustration and not limitation, as various other forms of modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art. For example, the container may be constructed wherein the flap for the coin pocket is formed on side panel 18 rather than on end panel 16 and the adhesive may be deposited on end panel 16 rather than on side panel 18. Additionally, where left handed persons are involved,

18 and 20 may be interchanged one for the other. Also, the length of side panel 20 may be considerably shortened by forming side panel 20 such that when folded it will overlie only the upper portion of the coin pocket and the extending portion of central panel 14.

I claim:

1. An envelope-like container formed from a bank having a central panel and panels extending from one end and the opposite sides thereof, the panel extending from the end of the central panel being generally rectangular having a width not greater than the width of said central 7 3 panel and a length substantially less than thatof said central panel, said end panel comprising a body portion and a flap portion, said flap portion being hingedly connected to said body portion along a side opposite that from which extends said, centralpanel, said end panel in its folded position overlyinga portion of said central 7 panel, one of said side panels having a length not greater than the length of said body portion and, prior to folding thereof, having a bottom edge'extending generally co-linearly 'With the end of the central panel from which extends said end panel, said one of said side panels, in its folded position, overlying generally the body portion of said end panel and having adhesive means formed along the side and bottom edges thereof for attachment thereof, in its folded position, to an adjacent portion of the body of said end panel to form a coin' pocket, said coin pocket being closable upon folding the flap portion of said end panelto overlie a portion of said side panel, said coin linearly with the end of the central panel from which extends said end panel, one of said end and said first side panels having a body portion and a flap portion, said flap portion being hingedly formed along one side of one of said panels for folding about an axisdisposed generally transverse of the longitudinal axis of said central panel,

the panel having the flap portion formed thereon having a length slightly greater than the length of the other one of said panels, adhesive means disposed between portions of said end panel and said side panel for adhesively bonding, in theirfolded position, said end panel and said pocket and said central panel forming a paper pocket,

first side paneltogether along the sideyandbottom edges of said' first side panel, said end and said first side panels in their folded, bonded p'ositioncooperating to form a closable coin pocket, said ,coin pocket and said central panel cooperating to form a paper pocket, said second side panel being freely foldableover said coin pocket and a portion of said central panel, said paper pocket being open along at least one side and one endthereofnprior to overfolding of said second side panel;

Claims

1. AN ENVELOPE-LIKE CONTAINER FORMED FROM A BANK HAVING A CENTRAL PANEL AND PANELS EXTENDING FROM ONE END AND THE OPPOSITE SIDES THEREOF, THE PANEL EXTENDING FROM THE END OF THE CENTRAL PANEL BEING GENERALLY RECTANGULAR HAVING A WIDTH NOT GREATER THAN THE WIDTH OF SAID CENTRAL PANEL AND A LENGTH SUBSTANTIALLY LESS THAN THAT OF SAID CENTRAL PANEL, SAID END PANEL COMPRISING A BODY PORTION AND A FLAP PORTION, SAID FLAP PORTION BEING HINGEDLY CONNECTED TO SAID BODY PORTION ALONG A SIDE OPPOSITE THAT FROM WHICH EXTENDS SAID CENTRAL PANEL, SAID END PANEL IN ITS FOLDED POSITION OVERLYING A PORTION OF SAID CENTRAL PANEL, ONE OF SAID SIDE PANELS HAVING A LENGTH NOT GREATER THAN THE LENGTH OF SAID BODY PORTION AND, PRIOR TO FOLDING THEREOF, HAVING A BOTTOM WEDGE EXTENDING GENERALLY CO-LINEARLY WITH THE END OF THE CENTRAL PANEL FROM WHICH EXTENDS SAID END PANEL, SAID ONE OF SAID SIDE PANELS, IN ITS FOLDED POSITION, OVERLYING GENERALLY THE BODY PORTION OF SAID END PANEL AND HAVING ADHESIVE MEANS FORMED ALONG THE SIDE AND BOTTOM EDGES THEREOF FOR ATTACHMENT THEREOF, IN ITS FOLDED POSITION, TO AN ADJACENT PORTION OF THE BODY OF SAID END PANEL TO FORM A COIN POCKET, SAID COIN POCKET BEING CLOSABLE UPON FOLDING THE FLAP PORTION OF SAID END PANEL TO OVERLIE A PORTION OF SAID SIDE PANEL, SAID COIN POCKET AND SAID CENTRAL PANEL FORMING A PAPER POCKET SAID OTHER SIDE PANEL BEING FREELY FOLDABLE OVER SAID COIN POCKET AND A PORTION OF SAID CENTRAL PANEL.
