Description

,UNITED STATES i PATENT OFFICE.
MUNSON C. CRONK, OF AUBURN, NEW YORK.
IM PROVEM ENT IN BOTTLE-STOPPERS.
To a/ZZ whom it may concern.'
Beit known that I, MUNsoN C. GRONK, of l the city of Auburn, in Cayuga county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Mode of Constructing the Stoppers for Bottles and for Securing the Same in the Bottle; and I hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in the mode in which I construct my stopper, andthe method of securing or holding the same in the bottle.
To enable others to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describeits construction and Inode of operation.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of a side view. Fig. 2 is the'left, and Fig. 3 the right, of the device, all the parts being represented in their proper relative position when the stopper is secured in the bottle. Fig. 4 is a sectional elevation of the stopper, it being represented as cut in the center. i l i The same letters refer to the same parts in all the figures. p
In Fig. 4 the dark` portion A, I make of metal or some hard substance. The light portion B of some elastic substance-such as gutta-percha or india-rubberv-with which I completely cover the lower portion of the metal, securing the elastic portion to the metal by means of a wire, G.
The device for holding the stopper is shown in Figs. 1, 2, 3, and 4.
Around the small portion of the neck of the bottleD is placed a wire, E, when bent half-round the same. Two loops, F F, are formed in the wire by twisting the wire around itself, and from each of these loops the wire is passed around to the opposite side, and the two ends twisted around each other, as represented in Figs. 2 and 3 at G. Into one of the loops F there is inserted another wire, H, passing upward `from said loop, and passing through the upper small portion of the stopper B, and thence through the hasp I, and a coil, J, formed on the end thereof, thus connecting the hasp I to the wire H. Through near the lower end of said hasp is cut a mortise, K, (see Fig. 3,) and after placing the stopper in the bottle and pressing it firmly down this mortise is slipped over one of the Acoils taken in the wire E, above described. By this means the stopper is secured rmly in the bottle.
Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the stopper constructed as set forth, with the wire rod H, the hasp I,` and the loops F F, when used as and for the purpose specified.
` M. C. CRONK.
