To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J AMES BowEs, of the village of Waterville, in Oneida county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Gas-Generators; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures marked thereon.
My invention relates to an improvement in gas-generators, and embraces the mechanism hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical section view of the generator, incandescent fuel-chamber, grate, and ash-pit, taken through lines m n of Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a section view taken at lines a: 11 Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a sectional and side view of the oil-jet tube, with a section of the outer sheath removed, exposing the oil-jet tube. Fig. 4 is an end view of the oil-jet tube. Fig. 5 is a side view of the same. 'Fig. 6 is a section view of the bushing and nut. Fig. 7 is a plan View of the nut.
I will now proceed to describe my invention by reference to the letters marked on the accompanying drawings, in which similar letters refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views.

F represents the removable oil-jet tube, through which the oil passes into the outer tubular sheath and thence into the fuel-chamber of the generator. This oil-jet tube is provided with screw-threads H thereon, and is held in a central position within the outer tubular sheath by means of bushing and nut with corresponding threads, H, which render it re movable and adjustable from the outside of the walls of the generator.

It is obvious that other mechanical devices can be substituted for adjusting the outer tubular sheath and the oil-j et tube, and the number of projecting protectors and corresponding sheaths, tubes, bushings, and nuts can be increased or dimi nished without interfering with the usefulness of my invention.
I am aware that an oil-supply pipe fitting in a sleeve so that the oil-pipe may be projected beyond the furnace-wall internally when oil is supplied, and withdrawn when the supply of oil is shut off, has been used. I am also aware that an oil-pipe projecting into the generator surrounding a steam-pipe has been heretofore provided and used. I; do not claim either of these devices. So far as I am aware no sheath or sleeve has been provided for protecting the oil-pipe in the manner described herein.
By the use of my protectors a space is maintained between the fuel and oil-jet. My improved oil-jet tube is not subjected to such heat, and the outer sheath protects the oiljet tube from injury and enables a smaller opening to be used in the oil-jet tube, thereby securing a greater force to the flow of the oil and permitting it to enter nearer the center of the generator than in those heretofore used. The tube can be easily removed, when desired, in my improved gas-generator, while those now in use are arranged so as to make it difficult to remove the tubes therein. The
accompanying drawings show four oil-j et tubes and corresponding protectors; but these can be increased or diminished without interfering with the usefulness of my invention.
