1964 R. R. HERTZEL ETAL 3,145,408
DUST COLLECTOR RECEPTACLE Filed May 15, 1963 INVEN ORS' RICHARD R. HERTIEL- CHARLES H. HERTZEL BY United States Patent ce 3,145,408 DUST COLLECTOR RECEPTACLE Richard R. Hertzel, 15 Bruen Court, Rensselaer, N.Y., and Charles H. Hertzel, 312 Colonie St., Albany, NY. Filed May 15, 1963, Ser. No. 280,631 2 Claims. (Cl. 15-257) This invention relates to a dust collector receptacle.
The problems in the art to which this invention appertains are the need for a dust collector receptacle in which a dust mop can have its collected dust shaken out; the need for a dust collector receptacle that is adapted to collect and funnel the collected dust into a paper bag associated therewith; the need for a dust collector receptacle that is adapted to be utilized with the conventional hose attachment of an electric vacuum cleaner; the need for a dust collector receptacle that can be simply, quickly and easily mounted on a closet door or in the interior of the closet; the need for a dust collector receptacle that can be easily collapsed and folded together after use with only the accommodation of spatial necessity necessary during the time of utilization thereof; and the need for a dust collector receptacle that is simple and durable of construction, and cheap to manufacture.
Therefore, it is an object of this invention to provide a dust collector receptacle in which a dust mop can have its collected dust shaken out.
Another object of the invention is to provide a dust collector receptacle that is adapted to collect and funnel the collected dust into a paper bag associated therewith.
A further object of the invention is to provide a dust collector receptacle that is adapted to be utilized with the conventional hose attachment of an electric vacuum cleaner.
A still funther object of the invention is to provide a dust collector receptacle that can be simply, quickly and easily mounted on a closet door or in the interior of the closet.
Another object of the invention is to provide a dust collector recpetacle that can be easily collapsed and folded together after use with only the accommodation of spatial necessity necessary during the time of utilization thereof.
A further object of the invention is to provide a dust collector receptacle that is simple and durable of constrction, and cheap to manufacture.
These and other objects of the invention should be appreciated from the detailed specification taken in conjunction with the drawings wherein like reference numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views, in which:
FIG. 1 is a perspective View of the invention;
FIG. 2 is a sectional view taken along the line 2-2 of FIG. 1;
FIG. 3 is a fragmentary View, partly in section, showing the adapter member of the invention.
In FIG. 1 of the drawings, reference numeral 1 generally refers to the invention. A mounting bracket 3 has holes 5 formed therethrough in the upper portion thereof to permit and facilitate thereby the bracket 3 to be mounted, such as by screws or nails, on a closet door or upon a wall portion interior of the closet.
The dust collector receptacle 7, of suitable plastic material, is in the shape of an inverted pyramid. A cover flap 9, of suitable plastic material, closes the top opening of the dust collector receptacle 7, as shown. The upper portion of one side of the dust collector receptacle 7 and one end of the cover flap 9 are secured, as shown, beneath a cross piece 11 that is suitably secured to the mounting bracket 3, such as by nails or screws.
A frame member ,13 has its depending legs 15 and 17 pivotally mounted, respectively, to leg brackets 19 and 21 3,145,408 Patented Aug. 25, 1964 carried by mounting bracket 3. The front flap 23 of the upper portion of the dust collector receptacle 7 is folded over the main web 25 of frame member 13 and secured at 27, as shown, such as by application of heat to weld the pieces together.
A cover flap rod 29 is disposed and secured within the leading edge portion of the cover flap 9 that is wrapped suitably around rod 29 and secured in the manner similar to the manner utilized to secure the front flap 23 of the dust collector receptacle 7.
Disposed at and within the apex portion of receptacle 7 is an adapter member 31 having a conical shaped upper portion 33 and a cylindrical lower portion 35. The cylindrical lower portion 35 is formed to receive therein the conventional hose attachment of a vacuum cleaner. This apex portion of receptacle 7 is suitably secured to the periphery of the conical portion 33 and cylindrical portion 35, such as by the use of an adhesive for purposes of bonding same.
Pivotally mounted on the bottom of mounting bracket 3 is a paper bag holding member 37, as shown.
FIG. 1 of the drawings shows a dust mop that is disposed and inserted within the interior of the dust collector receptacle 7. At the apex portion of recptacle 7, an ordinary paper bag that is obtainable at the corner grocery store is mounted in such a manner to have the bottom of the paper bag rest on holding member 37 and with the adapter member 31 arranged and disposed inwardly of the paper bag.
In operation of the device, when the dust mop is vigorously shaken to free the dust and lint collected on the mop, the dust and lint will be carried downwardly by gravity to and through adapter member 31 into the receiving paper bag. In this operation of the device, it is essential that cover flap 9 be disposed over the open end of the receptacle 7. Of course, the rod 29 of the cover flap 9 abuts against the trailing edge of main web, 25, as shown more discernably in FIG. 2. This disposition of the cover flap 9 confines the dust and lint, shaken from the dust mop, to the receptacle 7 itself.
In the operation of the device when the conventional hose attachment of the vacuum cleaner is utilized, the cover flap 9 is rolled up to leave the open end of the receptacle 7 open. The conventional hose attachment of the vacuum cleaner is disposed in such a manner that same is received and engaged within the complemental opening of the cylindrical lower pontion 35 of the adapter member 31. Upon shaking the dust mop in the interior of the receptacle 7, the suction action of the vacuum cleaner draws the dust and lint into the vacuum cleaner. If the upper end of the receptacle 7 were not left open, it should be appreciated that the walls of the receptacle 7 would collapsed through the suction action of the vacuum cleaner.
After the housewife is through using the device, she moves the main Web 25 upwardly against the mounting bracket 3 and brings the cover flap 9 downwardly over the main web 25. The weight of the cover flap rod 29 is sufficient to retain the device in its collapsed and folded position.
It should be appreciated that this device has especial utility in apartments wherein there is a need for a device that can easily and simply collect the dust and lint from the dust mop; and which device, after use, can be easily folded and collapsed taking up a minimum of space within the closet where the device should be mounted.
Having thusly described our invention, we claim:
1. A device to collect and direct dust and lint shaken from a dust mop, said device comprising a mounting bracket, frame member, dust collector receptacle, adapter member, cover flap and paper bag holding member; said mounting bracket having in its upper portion holes formed therethrough for mounting of same upon a closet door or wall, said frame member comprising a main web and depending legs, said depending legs being pivotally mounted on leg brackets carried by said mounting bracket, said mounting bracket and said frame member carrying said dust collector receptacle for arrangement and disposition of said dust collector receptacle at its open position, and to permit the collapse and folding of said dust collector receptacle when same is not in use, said dust collector receptacle being of plastic material, and being arranged and disposed in its open position in the form of an inverted pyramid, and carrying at its apex portion said adapter member through which the deposited and collected dust and lint from the shaken dust mop is directed, said adapter member having a cylindrical lower portion complemental to the shape of a conventional hose attachment of a vacuum cleaner to thereby receive said hose attachment within said cylindrical lower portion, said cover flap being of plastic material, and having one end thereof secured together with the upper portion of one side of said dust collector receptacle to said mounting bracket by disposition and arrangement beneath a cross piece secured to said mounting bracket, said paper bag holding member being pivotally mounted at the lower portion of said mounting bracket relative to said adapter member that the bottom of an ordinary paper bag may be disposed to rest on said paper bag holding member to permit thereby the arrangement and disposition of said adapter member inwardly of said paper bag.
