A. OIFRE.
' NEGKTIE FASIENER. No. 818,807. Patented Mar. 10, 1888.
ANDRES OIFRE, OF PLAISTOW, NEW HAMPSHIRE.
NECKTlE-FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 313,807, dated March 10,1885.
Application filed February 14, 1884.
To all whom it may concern/.-
Be it known that I, ANDRES CIFRE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Plaistow, in the-county of Rockingham and State of New Hampshire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Necktie-Fasteners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to fastenings for neckties, &c.; and it consists in the improvements hereinafter described and set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a scarf-shield having my invention ap; plied thereto. Fig. 2 is a rear perspective view of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a rear view of a completed bow, showing another arrangement; and Fig. 4 is a detail view.
A is the shield, which is cut at one or more points to form a vertical loop, a, for the passage of the straight portions [2 of a wire, B, bent to form said portions, as shown more par ticularly in Fig. 4. The shield Ais perforated beneath each loop a, so that the lower end of the vertical portion b of the wire is bent so as to pierce the same, and then again bent upward, as shown in Fig. 2, to clinch said wire and prevent its withdrawal from the shield. The upper portions of the wires are slightly spread to form loops 0, and are bent over, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. 1
One or more of these devices being applied to the shield, and the same secured to its bow (No model.)
or tie, as shown in Fig. 3, the tie can be readily placed in position upon the wearer by causing the loop portions 0 to pass behind the neckband of the shirt, while the ends of the shield are placed beneath the lap of the collar, thus insuring easy retention of the bow in its proper position and without liability of loss.
The loops a resist strain tending to pull the bow from position in a horizontal position, while the engagementof the lower ends of the portions b resists vertical strain.
I am aware that previous to my invention it has been proposed to employ supplemental loops to retain the metallic fastening-wire to the shield; but my invention will be readily distinguished from the above in that I slit the shield, so as to form integrally therewith a vertical retaining-loop, thereby obviating any liability of the loop becoming accidentally disengaged or lost.
I claim- The combination, in a necktie-fastener, of a shield cut to form integrally a vertical loop, a metallic catch having a vertical portion passing through said loop so as to be centrally supported by said loop, such metallic catch having its upper end bent and spread or looped and its lower end bent to pass through an opening in the shield to prevent vertical displacement of said catch, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ANDRES CIFRE.
