Description

Jun 1964 L. R. SCHUMANN PACKAGE AND RECEPTACLE FOR BRUSHES Filed May 17, 1963 FIG. I
INVENTOR LAWRENCE R. SCHUMANN ATTORNEYS United States Patent 3,136,409 PACKAGE AND RECEPTACLE FOR BRUSHES Lawrence R. Schumann, Boston, Mass., assignor to Star Brush Manufacturing Co., Inc, Boston, Mass, a corporation of New York Filed May 17, 1963, Ser. No. 281,282 1 Claim. (Cl. 20615.1)
This invention comprises a new and improved package and re-useable receptacle for brushes. It may be used for packaging brushes for shipment, distribution and sales display. It may also be used and re-used by the purchaser not only to protect the enclosed brush from dust and debris but also against drying out or oxidation of residual paint or oils thereon thereby prolonging the life of the brush.
These and other advantages of the invention will be best understood and appreciated from the following description of a preferred embodiment thereof selected for purposes of illustration and shown in the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIG. 1 is a view of the package and receptacle in front elevation; and
FIG. 2 is a corresponding view in side elevation.
The package and receptacle as herein shown is formed of flexible and transparent polyvinyl sheet material or any equivalent material having similar characteristics. It has a back panel and a shorter front panel 11 of which the upper edge is shown at 11'. The longitudinal edges of the two panels are united and heat sealed. The back panel 10 is folded at the upper edge 12 of the package and merges into a downwardly extending flap 13 having a rounded edge which overlaps the upper portion of the front panel 11.
A snap fastener 14 located above the upper edge 11 of the front panel is arranged to detachably connect the flap 13 and the back panel 10 for holding the package in closed condition. A hang-up hole 15 is provided in the flap and back panel at a point above the snap fastener and just below the folded edge 12 of the package.
The back and front panels are drawn together at the bottom of the package into acentral constricted throat 16, thus forming a support for the enclosed brush so that the latter may be held within the package with its bristles fully protected but located entirely below the snap fastener and in flat, undistorted condition.
It will be apparent from the foregoing description that the flexible and transparent sheath of the package is useful in packaging brushes for distribution, storage and display advertising. It is also apparent that the package may be used and re-used by the purchaser, and that when so used the enclosed brush is held in flat, fully protected position with its bristles held flat and undistorted between the front and back panels. While thus enclosed, the bristles are protected against oxidation or drying out of 3,136,409 Patented June 9, 1964 any residual paint or oil so that the brush is in condition for immediate use upon being withdrawn from the hang-up receptacle.
The clarity of this particular material and the complete absence of cardboard or paper in the wrapper (which is the customary package in the industry today) enables the purchaser easily to see the entire brush, i.e. width, length of hair, etc. The open flap 11 at the top permits the purchaser easily and quickly to inspect the brush by sliding it upward.
Having thus disclosed by invention and described in detail an illustrated embodiment thereof, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A package and re-useable receptacle for brushes comprising a transparent enclosure of flexible polyvinyl sheet material having back and front panels, the back panel being longer than the front panel and folded across the top of the package thus providing a downwardly extending flap overlapping the front panel, a snap fastener securing the downwardly extending flap to the back panel above the top edge of the front panel, and the flap and back panel being united at their lower ends to form a central constricted throat for the passage of the brush handle and provided with a hang-up hole located above the snap fastener whereby a brush will settle in the enclosure of the hang-up package with its bristles fully protected, undistorted and located entirely below the snap fastener and in such position that it may be pushed upwardly by its projected handle to expose the bristles for inspection by contact without the necessity of releasing the snap fastener of the flap.
