Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE;
GEORGE LEDER, OF DEMOPOLIS, ALABAMA.
ARTIFICIAL FUEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 313,086, dated March 3,1885.
Application filed May 2, 1884.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE LEDER, of Demopolis, in the county of Marcngo and State ofAlabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Artificial Fuel; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improvement in artificial fuel especially adapted for starting or kindling fire; and it consists in the admixture of certain ingredients in certain proportions, as named below. I first heat or boil a quantity of ordinary yellow resin, or any resin produced from crude petroleum, in any suitable receptacle until it reaches the proper consistency. Cotton-seed hulls equal in weight 20 to the weight of the resin are then miXed in the heated resin, making a mixture of half (No specimens.)
resin and half cotton-seed hulls. This mixture is then placed in molds, or in a suitable press, and molded or pressed into cakes of any desired size or dimensions, or any form or shape, ready to be placed in the market.
I would have it understood that I do not confine myself to the exact proportions above mentioned; but
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A fuel for kindling fire, consisting of a mix ture of resin and cotton-seed hulls in substantially the manner and proportions stated.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GEORGE LEDER.
