TH FOLDED CORNER PORTION THEREOF Nov. 12, 1963 HANDKERCHIEF POCKET FORMED WI Filed Dec. 2l 1961 FIGURE 3.
INVENTOR.
WALTER J. TAYLOR BY ATTORNEY 3,1 1,334 Faterited Nov. 12, 1953 3,113,334 HANDKERCHEF POCKET FORMED WITH FOLDED CORNER PORTION THEREOF Walter J. Taylor, 2302 S. Early St., Kansas City, Kane. Filed Dec. 21, 1961, Ser. No. 161,315 1 (Ilaim. (Cl. 150-37) This invention relates to a handkerchief with an improved inexpensive pocket formed from a folded corner thereof and provided with a closable slide fastener for access thereto.
School children often are given coins of money for lunches to be purchased at or near their schools and often find it ditficult to retain coins while running, playing and deviating from the required routine usually outlined for them on the Way to their schools. Coins often fall unnoticed from a pocket in the clothing of a person when some other article is removed from the pocket. Young girls often desire to go without pocketbooks or handbags and have no pockets in their dresses suitable for retaining coins and bills of money.
3 handkerchief pocket is formed with a folded triangular shape portion of a simulated rectangular shape handkerchief including one corner thereof, one edge of the triangular shape portion from the fold to the corner thereof is secured to the major portion of the handkerchief, a longitudinal strip of cloth containing an access opening with a slide fastener has one edge thereof secured to the opposite edge of said triangular shape portion, and the remaining edges of said longitudinal strip are secured to the major portion of the handkerchief to close the pocket for retaining articles.
The economic object of my invention is to use all of the material of the handkerchief with only the addition of a strip of cloth having a slide fastener accesss opening therein to form a handkerchief with a pocket therein as outlined in the previous paragraph.
Another very important object of my handkerchief with a pocket formed therein, containing coins, is that if the handkerchief is accidently removed from a pocket or belt on a person, or dropped from the hand, it is quickly noticed, recognized by the size and color thereof, and recovered with the coins therein by the owner thereof.
This invention will be better understood from the accompanying drawing, this specification, and the claim appended.
In the drawing:
FIGURE 1 is a view illustrating a handkerchief in a simulated rectangular form.
FIGURE 2 is a view illustrating a handkerchief of a simulated rectangular form with one triangular shape portion including the corner thereof folded toward a diagonal opposite corner and secured to the major portion of the handkerchief forming the improved pocket with the strip of cloth having an access opening therein and secured thereto.
FIGURE 3 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view taken on lines 33 of FIGURE 2 with the exception that the pocket and the slide fastener are illustrated open.
A cloth handkerchief 5 is usually shaped to simulate a rectangle. A cloth handkerchief 5 is often distorted from a rectangular shape by the addition of a hem 6, washing, and ironing thereof. Some cloth handkerchiefs have a finished edge and eliminate the hem. Either type of handkerchief is suitable for my invention.
My handkerchief pocket 7 is formed by folding a corner portion 8 of the handkerchief 5 on the fold line 9 against the major portion 10 of the handkerchief 5.
The corner portion 8 is of a simulated triangular shape and has one corner 11 of the handkerchief 5. One edge 12 extends from the corner 11 to one end of the fold line 9. The opposite or remaining edge 13 of the coner portion 8 extends from the corner 11 to the opposite end of the fold line 9.
The edge portion 12 is secured, preferably by sewing 14, to the major portion 11 of the handkerchief 5.
A strip of cloth 15 has the preferable length of the edge 13 of the corner portion 8 of the handkerchief 5. One longitudinal edge portion 16 of the strip of cloth 15 is secured, preferably by sewing 17, to the edge portion 13 from corner 11 to the fold line 9. The remaining edges of the strip of cloth 15 are secured, preferably by sewing 18, to the major portion 10 of the handkerchief 5.
The strip of cloth 15 is provided with an access opening 19. Interlocking bars 20 are abutted in parallelism in the opening 19 and are alternately secured to opposite edge portions thereof in the strip of cloth 15.
A slide actuating member 21 is manually operated to lock and interlock the interlocking bars 28 for access to the pocket 7.
It is obvious from the accompanying drawing and this specification that coins or other small articles may be placed in the pocket 7, and that the handkerchief will greatly increase the discovery of the location thereof if it is lost, or dropped from the hand, pocket, or belt of a person.
I claim:
A handkerchief which is designed to be economically constructed by a minor corner portion thereof folded diagonally against a portion of the handkerchief to form a pocket, which uniquely permits all of the remaining area of the handkerchief to be normally useful for a handkerchief; the handkerchief comprising in combination:
(a) a cloth of a simulated square shape,
(b) a minor corner portion of said cloth being folded diagonally toward the opposite diagonal corner of said cloth relative to the said minor folded corner portion,
(0) one edge portion of said minor corner portion of said cloth being secured to said simulated square,
(d) and the opposite edge portion of said minor corner portion of said cloth being detachably attached to said cloth.
